We enjoy buying the take-home sausages and empanadas because we can enjoy the same delicious food prepared in my kitchen.
This evening, I ordered the Brisket Burger Completa with Bacon. The burger was cooked to perfection and was so juicy. It was so good I couldn't put it down. The smokiness from the brisket and bacon was a perfect complement to the sweet tomato, crunchy lettuce, creamy Fontina cheese, and fluffy fried egg. The bun held up well to all of the ingredients. I never thought a burger could taste this good.
This afternoon, we enjoyed our lunch outdoors at one of the picnic tables. This was my first time trying the Morcilla Sausage. It's a little softer than other sausages, but not lacking in flavor. Mild, meaty, and flavorful. Next, I enjoyed the Choripan with the Spanish Chorizo. Smoky, meaty, and perfectly balanced with the chimichurri sauce.
Earlier today, I tried the Chicken Burger Con Tutti with Bacon. Wow, that was delicious. Smoky bacon, meaty Argentinean chorizo, creamy fried egg, slice of ham, earthy chimi-mayo and fresh crunch of the pickles and lettuce and a tomato on top of a breast of chicken that was marinated in Argentinean spices. A carnivore's paradise. Even the bun held up well to the meat. Delicioso. As always, the chips and fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned.
Tonight, we tried the Bacon Cheeseburger Empanada, and we were pleasantly surprised. Cheesy and smoky and surrounded by a flaky crust. Extremely flavorful. I also enjoyed eating the Chicken Milanesa Completa. A crispy crust surrounding the juicy thin piece of chicken, which was much bigger than the baguette holding it together. Topped off with delicious fried eggs, creamy fontina cheese, and a piece of ham. Downright delicious.
My family and I frequent Che Chori because the food is delicious, and the friendly staff. The Choripan is a mild Argentine Chorizo with lettuce, tomato, and chimichurri sauce. It was very meaty and delicious. My wife truly enjoys eating the El Vacio Sandwich, which is made with flank steak cooked to medium rare. Both sandwiches are delicious.
We have gone back multiple times to try more sandwiches and empanadas, and we love it all. The Porchetta roast is the best pork roast our family has ever tasted. The crunchy skin crust encasing the moist pork, both white and dark meat, was perfectly seasoned. Our family just couldn't stop eating it. Perfect for any family dinner.
This was our first time at Che Chori, and it was definitely not our last visit. We were greeted and served by a very friendly staff. The piggy ponchos are the Argentine version of pigs in a blanket, but this was much better. The hot dog was surrounded by a flaky empanada dough with cheese and had a side of curry ketchup. The Bondipan sandwich was beyond delicious. A very flavorful and moist large piece of pork enrobed in Argentine spices, fried egg, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, and a chimichurri mayo on a fresh french baguette. I couldn't stop eating it. We also ate many empanadas such as buffalo chicken, Argentine chorizo, Spanish chorizo, butternut squash, birria, and chicken. Each one was extremely delicious. We made room for their desserts. Our order included the churros with dulce de leche dipping sauce and alfajors ( traditional and chocolate peanut butter). They were delicious. We look forward to going back to...
Read moreThe menu features over 15 empanada flavors and nearly 10 different sandwich options. My entire group stuck with the main combo. 3 empanadas, chips, and a 10 inch churro. You also get ample sauces with: chimi-mayo, salsa verde, and dulce de leche. I did opt to upgrade my chips into a side of fries.
Empanadas: Each one had the filling branded on the side which was a lovely feature. They were also a bit bigger than my previous empanadas - which is a huge bonus for me.
Across the car, everyone was thrilled with their selections, but there were a few favorites. Of all the types that were tried, these 3 seemed to be the most well received:
Bacon Cheeseburger: Literally all the ingredients of a burger stuffed into a deep fried shell. The relish really made this one shine to me. It added the right amount of acid and boldness the dish needed.
Ham and Cheese: I didn’t try this one, but 2 of my friends loved it. They ordered it because both the cook and a random guy with a take out order mentioned how much they liked it. I’ll have to try it next time.
Guava and Cream Cheese: I saw this one mentioned in a few reviews across different sources. It sounds so weird, but everyone was saying how great it was. I was skeptical, but also delightfully wrong in my initial judgment. My only note here is that you should save this one for last because it is really sweet - practically dessert.
Fries/Chips: Like a majority of places, the chips didn’t do much for me. Bland filler. The fries were decent. They could be better, but they serve as an excellent vessel for the garlic bomb chimi-mayo. The real hero is the condiment - which they also sell in jars.
Churro: Before writing this, I had to look up if Argentina even had churros. I’ve always associated them with Mexican food. My surface level research informed me that Argentina typically has churros with breakfast, and that their version is often served with dulce de leche. These churros were fantastic. I was beyond full but couldn’t stop eating. They were stuffed with dulce de leche AND came with a side of it. The extra sauce wasn’t needed, but it was SO good that I’d never turn it down either. This dulce de leche is the sauce that those with a sweet...
Read moreDuring one of my searches for new places to try, this place popped up. Argentinian...okay...5-stars...I'll add it to the list. Thankfully, I was not disappointed.
Che Chori is small but dare I say mighty...with food. Aside from empanadas and chimichurri, I don't have much experience with Argentinian cuisine. And I'm guessing the majority of those in Indianapolis don't either...I think this is the only Argentinian restaurant around for hours. But, what I did have was good. I am impressed that they prep everything on site and it is made to order - don't expect to grab and go unless you ordered ahead. Staff were friendly and helpful in explaining the menu.
The beef empanada was pretty good - I'd give it 4 stars. My preference for this kind of empanada (flour dough) is to have them baked, not fried. The filling had flavor but could be tweaked a little...it was a little too greasy (maybe made worse by it being fried), I couldn't taste the olives, and I don't think I had any egg in mine. On the positive side, the filling to dough ratio was just right.
The choripan was a solid 4.75 stars. The baguette had a decent crust on the outside with a soft interior. The chorizo was well seasoned and not too fatty. The chimichurri had good flavor and a little acid to cut thru the chorizo - I could have used more of it or a chimichurri with just a touch more acid.
The chips are not your run of the mill chips from Lay's and I can't believe I almost didn't eat them - 5 stars for these bad boys. The chips were well seasoned and crunchy - paired with the chimi-mayo, dear lord what a flavor bomb.
The alfajore was a good little treat at the end - 4.5 stars in my book. I liked how the shortbread had a touch of citrus (lemon?) that gave it an extra dimension/layer of flavor and refreshed the pallet. For me, I felt like the dulche to shortbread ratio was off. Either more dulche or a thinner shortbread would have been more appropriate - it was like the dulche was hidden or muted. It would be interesting with a raspberry jam (or other fruits) in the middle.
I'll be back, but for the...
