I hate to give this a one star rating, but we’ve been here several times over the last few years, and I feel it’s just not as good as it was in previous visits. Let’s start with price. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich with fries, coleslaw and a drink. I had the choose 2 meats, which you only got two meats and NO SIDES for a whopping $18!! I added macaroni and cheese and green beans and a side of 3 ribs( which was $10 for those ribs alone!!), plus a drink. Then there was peach cobbler for dessert. Our bill was almost $70!!!!! Absolutely outrageous…my jaw almost hit the floor. The menu needs revamped as far as combos go. There just isn’t enough to choose from that makes sense money wise. Now, as far as staff is concerned, everyone was friendly and nice! Now on to taste. My husband enjoyed his pulled pork sandwich, he wasn’t crazy about the fries, but he enjoyed the coleslaw! I had pulled pork, which was delicious, and the brisket, which I’ll say was completely fatty…don’t even waste your time with it. I understand a layer of fat, that’s common, but not a layer of fat and fat dispersed throughout the meat. It was like biting a piece of meat encased in jello…as soon as it went in my mouth, I had to spit it right out, yuck! Then the ribs were not all that great either…a big waste of $10!! The green beans we’re not having much flavor either, and the onions could stand to be left out. The macaroni and cheese was decent at least. The bbq sauce was not tasty either, and it seemed to have lumps of some sort in it, which was disgusting. The peach cobbler I had to wait 30 mins or longer for them to cook it. It wasn’t even that great either. My Valentine’s dinner with my husband was less than in many ways! Please make some changes City BBQ to...
Read moreThis barbecue place, like many others, has you order at a counter and then the food is prepared and you are called when it is ready. Since I hadn’t eaten there before, I asked about some ingredients in some of the recipes and they happily looked it up.
We went in with family. Everyone got a two meat option with two sides. I had double brisket shown in the photo. There is a $3 up charge for the brisket in this combo and since I had both meats as brisket I had two $3 upcharges. This was not explained nor, unfortunately, did we notice this until we were headed home (we were paying attention to family). I got green beans with bacon and a side salad with my combo. The brisket was tender but a small portion for the price. My husband also got the double brisket with baked beans and creamy coleslaw. I thought my sides were good and the side salad was good sized. My husband said his sides were average.
When we arrived about 5:30 many of the tables were dirty and the floor was a mess. Eventually, someone came out to sweep up and clean tables but it was as the dinner rush was heating up. The clean up person left the antiseptic cleaner on the counter by the barbecue sauces.
I watched the young man who was prepping the take out orders. He was very professional with the customers and when one older lady had trouble carrying her large order, he carried it out to her car for her. This person also saw the antiseptic cleaner on the counter and got rid of it.
All in all, a little disappointing. Probably won’t come back when we are in Indy visiting...
Read moreFirst and foremost, The food is always amazing from City BBQ and that definitely deserves a 10 star hands down in my opinion. Also I love the fact that they have flavored glass bottle sodas and the rustic look that the restaurant has. (All accept for the highly inappropriate sign that can be read very clearly on the back door (Ya I mean I get it things are bad but Really?? Why when people bring their children in there who can read and who question what certain things mean??) Sadly though, this is the first time I have ever stepped foot in a City BBQ and the service (All except for the cashier; He was younger with long black hair) was very rude to the point of seeming like I was lying about the order missing something. They weren't even busy and no one said hello, welcome, nothing. The eye rolling also was extremely ridiculous. We had asked for the ice to be filled and even that seemed like a burden to them. The attitudes were just very disrespectful. Sorry for the long rant and I understand working in the food industry can be quite the task especially when you work in a business that brings in a lot of customers because I myself work in the same setting, but with that being said I also know that just acknowledging that the customer is there goes an extremely long way. And I'm not saying that "the customer is always right" but for the vibes I was getting from two of the employees makes me never want to step in there again if that's how you have to...
