Trying a place like First Watch was a big step for my group, because we would typically eat a lot of greasy, fatty, or in one word, unhealthy foods with little to no veggies or fruits. We did however try it out on Saturday around noon, and the place was absolutely packed. We took this as a good sign, because surely they'd have to be good if they were so busy. We didn't wait for too long, only about 25 to 30 minutes, and we were seated at a table too small for us. As soon as this was noticed, two different people sought to move us immediately, and then we were promptly seated at a table, perfectly seating each one of us. It took a while for us to choose our drinks, because of the different drinks available that were new to us. Ultimately, we tried the OJ, the coffee, the iced coffee, and one unhealthy choice was a coke. Everyone tried the coffees and the juice, and for me, someone who absolutely detests coffee and hates it with a burning passion, the iced coffee was amazing! I loved it and ended up ordering one for myself, then we ordered lemon blueberry and quinoa pancakes, then a blueberry muffin, a muffin of the day, one of the omelets (can't remember which one), avocado toast, blueberry pancakes, and a club sandwich with the tomato basil soup. I tried a little of nearly everything, and there wasn't a single thing I didn't love. The muffin of the day had blueberries and chocolate chips in it with a bit of banana in the middle and was so scrumptious I almost cried eating it, the omelet was the best I'd had in my life, the avocado toast was so good that I will order it myself next time, the soup was clearly fresh and it was flavorful to the max, and by the time the lemon blueberry quinoa pancakes arrived I was so stuffed that the person I was splitting them with had to eat more than he'd planned to because I was so full. Our server was very knowledgeable about the restaurant and answered our questions very well, and I guarantee that we'll be back. Everyone was surprised at the value of the food, even though it was expensive for us to go, we expected it to be so much more money for what we were getting. Anywhere else like First Watch would be much more expensive, and not nearly as good. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough, and the only thing keeping me from going every day is the expense that would build up over time! Even with that I wonder if it would be worth it to get to eat there again... lol No matter what, order a muffin that has chocolate chips, blueberries, and banana in the middle, and get an iced coffee. Enjoy at your own risk, that stuff is like a drug. You'll never go to...
Read moreWent here for the first time May 5th in the hopes to find a competitor to Ruth Cafe in Metro diner in the same area. This was yet again another of the many disappointments across Indianapolis of restaurants that feel that creating a " elevated " meal means rearranging items on a plate in order to make the consumer feel like they're getting something of high quality when in fact they're getting a low quality food in a much less quantity with an increased price that does not match on any scale what this food should cost. Best example is they have a sugar-free syrup a regular syrup and a 100% maple syrup on offer. The sugar-free and the "regular"syrup is free, however the 100% maple syrup which is what you would think syrup is is an extra dollar fifty on top of whatever it is that you order. At this restaurant you have to pay to have actual syrup. It doesn't end there when you order a pancake yes the pancake is as large as a plate however it's not just a pancake it's a quote multigrain " pancake. Direct translation is a pancake that resembles what you think a pancake should be, with a taste of corn muffin mixed in. The only good thing about this place was the server and I was in such a hurry to get out of the restaurant that I forgot to actually ask her name. I am sad to say that even a really super nice server is not enough to make me come back to this overpriced sorry excuse for a...
Read moreMy son treated me to a Mother's Day brunch at First Watch--his first time there and my second. We were greeted by a friendly and upbeat waiter, Ishmael, who cheerfully took care of our every need throughout our meal. He promptly brought us plenty of excellent hot coffee and kept it coming. I decided to splurge, since it was Mother's Day, and ordered a Mimosa, which hit the spot as an eye-opener. My son joined me in a Million Dollar Bloody Mary. The menu featured a number of tempting choices. I decided on the 2 For You lunch special, which can be half a sandwich, half a salad, or a cup of soup, or any combination of two. My choice was half a Ham & Gruyere Melt and a cup of Tomato Basil Soup. The sandwich was wonderfully fresh and tasty with plenty of smoked ham, gooey melted gruyere, a slice of flavorful tomato, and topped with a nice dollop of Dijonnaise, all on a grilled brioche. The soup was undoubtedly the best tomato basil I've ever had--not too hot but just hot enough and so delicious. My companion opted for the Traditional Breakfast, consisting of two eggs, bacon, thick slices of whole grain toast with house preserves, and seasoned potatoes, along with a side order of cheesy grits to die for. While he enjoyed his meal, ranked it "good" (a man of few words!) and admitted that he would probably return, I declared First Watch my new favorite place so far this year. I can't...
