We stayed here for an overnight during Covid19. My review is based upon what is going on during this time.
Taylor, one of the front desk attendants, booked a hotel package for my husband and I. It included a heritage king room, a bottle of champagne, and a $100 gift card to eat at the restaurants here onsite. Taylor is amazing and incredibly sweet. She answers all your questions. She also gave us dining recommendations and wine recommendations.
The hotel itself is masculine. It’s very woodsy inside. Smells like a mans cologne (which I absolutely love). There’s lots of really cool decorations and a ton of character.
Our room....wow. As we walk in and look to our left our bathroom is WOW. Marble countertops, waterfall shower head that’ll knock you backwards because there’s so much pressure, there’s a scale, hair dryer, make up mirror, and of course all the little bottles of shampoos/conditioner. I did not use those so I can’t comment on the smell. The shower is definitely the best. I know I already mentioned it but seriously take a shower while here. There aren’t any soaking tubs in the hotel in case you are like me and want to soak.
There’s a mini bar with a lot of variety. Tiny bottles of hard liquor, soda pop, margarita mix, Bloody Mary mix, Red Bull, wines, beers, fiji water. Prices range between $2-$20. There’s a snack bar in the room as well. Popcorn, gummy bears, Advil, 5 hour energy, gum, jerky, m&m s, pringles, nuts, and more Fiji water. Prices range from $2-$5. There’s a keurig coffee maker. There’s 3 coffee (2 regular and a decaf), and one pod of hot tea. They give you 4 creamers, cups and sugar/sugar substitutes.
There’s a leather couch, 2 top dining table, safe, 2 desks, nightstand with an antique looking radio/alarm. Lots of lighting. For those here on business, there is an iron, iron board, safe, and hangers to hang up your suits.
The bed...I’m the kind of girl that wants the bed to swallow you and you don’t want to get up. This bed? It’s firm and there’s a ton of super soft pillows. There’s a down comforter on the bed with a few sheets. I’m always cold and I was overheated under the blankets. There is a thermostat in the room so you can adjust the temperature as you like.
Restaurants...keep in mind restaurants at this time are only doing carry out/delivery. There’s normally a ton of places to eat while staying here. Only 4 places were open. Ruth Chris, Verde, Yolk, and Daredevil Hall. We ate dinner at Daredevil Hall. Keep in mind none of these restaurants are ran by the hotel. They serve burgers, fries, and beer. The poblano jack burger is the bomb. Definitely try that if you are a burger freak like me. Everything else was ok.
Overall we loved our little getaway from the kids. We paid a little under $400 but that included EVERYTHING ($100 for meals, wine, late checkout). Typically the room alone would be $177 plus tax, wine $20 (based upon mini bar price), our dinner was $50, breakfast was $50.
There’s a few places to check out when everything reopens (hair salon, massage place and the other restaurants). I hope you find my review helpful and...
Read moreThis hotel is very clean, very nice the staff is super attentive but there are somethings you should be aware of.
We were out for the NCAA tournament. We were lucky enough to book before most colleges allotted tickets to fans and booked a reasonable rate on a package deal. Everything was perfect they left us check in early which was nice.
What isn’t mentioned is besides the hotel it’s almost like a self inclusive restaurant scene. These restaurants (about 10 between 2 buildings) book extremely quickly so if you want seats and good times I suggest booking them early. I also cannot speak to all the restaurants but the only seat we were able to acquire was at provision for 715 on Saturday evening. It was the last time left and we booked 36 hours in advance for Saturday. Provisions probably would have been in the middle of places selected and that’s about where it fell for me. Bill for 2 was about $250 and the food was simply good but no where near great for the price. Since this is the hotel’s restaurant I am comfortable putting that in the review. The parking lot for the hotel due to the 10 or so businesses in the same building fills up quickly on the weekend leaving guest to park in the Sally Mae lot at times.
As for the room. The rooms are nice and come stocked with a reasonably priced (for hotel prices) stocked mini bar/sodas/candy etc. there is no on site vending, and there are no fridge or microwave options in the room. Again a little different but the hotel itself is nice. As many others have noted the shower is fantastic.
Our only really bad experience is we were originally stuffed between two rooms of friends where the guest didn’t know how to act in a hotel. Screaming up and down the halls till almost 3 am. We made the front desk aware and they were very responsive but as soon as they would leave the noise would go back up to 10. At 10pm even 11pm I’m cool with it. Not 2-3am. It was disappointing that while the staff attempted to deal with it, it was never under control. I heard another guest on that floor complaining to his wife about it so it wasn’t just us. We did however ask to be moved the next day at 2PM when it was clear that group was up again, and the hotel kindly accommodated.
Overall 4.7 out of 5 and would stay again, maybe some better processes for rude guest, and some tinkering to make sure your hotel guest are able to park in the actual hotel lot during busy weekends.
Lastly we were headed back out this weekend and the hotel was $280 a night. We passed. Great hotel $175-200. Ok hotel for 200-225. $280 is a reach. We stayed at an equally rated place a mile down the road $140. Just my...
Read moreWorst experience ever at the INDY IRONWORKS HOTEL! I would stay clear especially if you are a person of color! We were treated so badly and rudely by staff. They made a mistake with our reservation and tried to play it like “Oh, we are upgrading you”. But we didn’t request an upgrade. They made us move out of our current room that we stayed in last night to a different room because they were “sold out” of our orginal room. Issue was we booked it for 2 nights. They didn’t care, they didn’t apologize, they didn’t send someone to help move our stuff to the other room (they actually asked why we needed a key for the other room instead when we asked for one to move the things).
Also even though we were standing at the counter waiting on the manager Anne refused to call her. She said she was busy and we would just have to wait for her return. She then continued to just ignore us. Upon the managers return she asked a causian member of our party that wasn’t standing even near the desk if she could help her. When she was referred back to us she stopped smiling and became stern. She had been smiling and so kind with all Caucasian customers we had seen her take on a tour but we weren’t even greeted or smiled at by the manager through this entire ordeal. Without talking to us, The manager and employee whispered about our situation, and the employee explained it wrong. Even upon clarification and showing our reservation for 2 nights for the room we were already in they still made us move out into another room because they said they were sold out of that room type. We asked if they were sold out of our current room then why they won’t tell new people checking in they had been “upgraded” like they were telling us and have them take the other room. They refused. Even when we kept saying it makes no sense. After we left the desk to move our own things. A member of our party that they didn’t know was with us stayed in the lobby they said they talked about us while other customers where there.
Other customers came up after the incident and talked about how we handled it so well and they won’t be booking here any more as well! This needs fixed! A refund and an apology is much needed. Still can’t believe...
