The atmosphere is pretty cool. The food was just OK. The prices are pretty high. The service is terrible. We ordered a large eighteen inch gabogul pizza, a fourteen inch big boy pizza, 8 honey hot sesame wings, one lemonade, and the rest of us had water. The bill before tip was $87.20. Our server ("Becca" is what was on the receipt but she didn't introduce herself) was clearly not interested in being there, nor in serving us. She seemed to have a bad attitude from the moment we arrived. Maybe it was because it was the end of the night, and she was hoping to not have any more customers. I don't know. We arrived at 8:22, and they close at 9:00 but we ordered fairly quickly and ate fairly quickly. By the time we were leaving they were closing and my 11 year old daughter needed to use the restroom. While her and my wife walked to the bathroom, they began playing a song with a lot of vulgarity and adult content in it. I went inside and asked very politely if they could change it until my daughter was done using the restroom and we could leave. The guy behind the counter who I had asked and the bartender we're both very friendly and kind and did change it for us but not before my server came up and told me with a major attitude that they were not going to change it because they're closed. She treated me as if I was out of line for asking and it was really a continuation, and just a next level of her already bad attitude. Even though she had, had a bad attitude and not been a very good server at all, I had tipped her twenty percent which equated to $17.44. Lucky for me she had not yet picked up the receipt and I was able to mark out her tip and change it to $0.00. I have never done this and always tip a bare minimum of twenty percent even for poor service, which is why I had tipped her twenty percent in the first place even though she gave us poor service with a bad attitude. Unfortunately for her, our last interaction was too far past the line for me. A person with such a personality has no business dealing with customers. They might think about changing her position to somewhere far, far away from...
Read moreVisited King Dough Indianapolis location, located on the northwest corner of Michigan Pl and N Highland Ave, just south of E Michigan St (one way westbound street).
The decor inside and the covered outdoor patio with plants growing up it and on it is pretty cool, feels very inviting. Unfortunately, other than that, I didn't get the same vibe throughout the visit.
King Dough wasn't very busy the night I went in, just about every table inside was available and about half the tables outside were available in the patio area.
Prior to stopping in at King Dough we checked out the menu that's available on Google. Some of the party didn't feel like pizza, so were looking forward to some Sticky Stix and Truffle Fries, or just the Order of Fries.
Welp, when we asked for an order of fries, or Truffle Fries, we were rudely informed that they don't serve fries. We quickly looked through King Dough's digital menu via scanning the table's qr code, making sure to select Indianapolis as the location. It was showing as an option, again we were rudely told fries aren't sold here.
Okay then, we just went with the Sticky Stix and a build-your-own pizza.
As an out-of-towner I probably took a little more time ordering the build-your-own pizza than the locals and I wasn't aware that half and half pizzas were politely declined. My party and I werew informed though, albeit it wasn't politely declined. We were aggressively told they don't do that. No problem, but making me feel like a loser wasn't very kind 😢.
Oh well, ended up order two pizzas, they were both good. I also had a beer, the Red Ale from Centerpoint Brewing Company which was also good.
One more thing, the Sticky Stix that we were served didn't really look like the Sticky Stix that were pictured in the menu. The actual Sticky Stix that were were served kinda looked liked frozen mozzarella sticks.
Oh ya, we also ordered the marinated olives and you sure do get a lot, and they were delicious.
Would I go back to King Dough again? I dunno. I'd like to say yes but still...
Read moreI paid almost $47 for a single pizza… no breadsticks, no sides, no drinks… just one pizza. My spouse (who avoids confrontation at all costs) went inside to pickup and upon returning to the car with the pizza, I was informed that they were out of cheese and made our pizza without. I was not okay with this, especially for the price, so I went back in with the pizza. Before I even had the first word out of my mouth, the host looked at me and said “I told him we were out of cheese when he picked the pizza up.” I then proceeded to stand in the restaurant for 15 minutes effectively arguing my case as to how it’s not ethical to charge someone $47 for a single pizza that was prepaid for, make it without 30% of basic pizza ingredients, not call and ask if we were okay with this, and then not offer any sort of incentive for THEIR mishap. The manager did however offer to refund me $4 that I paid for adding ricotta to the pizza.
This was not nearly as big of a deal as the staff at King Dough made it out to be. The host was extremely rude to me, rolled her eyes, and walked away mid-sentence leaving me at the host stand. She passed by about 5 minutes later and mumbled to me that “there was just nothing she could do.”
Mind you, I was not rude, I was not even upset. I simply requested a refund for an overpriced pizza that was not made to order. And no, I was not trying to keep the pizza. I genuinely thought this would be an absolute no-brainer, no questions asked interaction given the circumstances and fact that they did not reach out to us beforehand. Clearly I was wrong. I have still yet to be refunded and will be disputing the charge once it posts.
This is my absolute favorite pizza place. We eat here at least monthly and have been here for my last three birthdays. Customer service has always been lackluster and sometimes even a bit rude but we overlook this for the food or would just get carry out. I am beyond pained to write this review however my latest interaction here has...
