6/12/22 - 2nd Update Review for New Location: Just wanted to add that I asked for the War Su Gai to be made as "not spicy" at my most recent visit and it was amazing!! The sauce is very slightly different but still savory and delicious with the same flavors as the old dish. The chicken is the same as what is used for their other fried chicken dishes (cut up chicken pieces with light batter), you get a larger portion of chicken and I actually liked it better than a sliced chicken breast because it stayed crispy from start to finish. There's a little less veggies but still plenty to complement the chicken and sauce. So if War Su Gai was your "go to" order just ask for it to be made non-spicy! 😁 💗
5/14/22 - Updated review for new location: (address: 7327 N U.S. 31, Indianapolis, IN 46227) For many years the Lotus Garden in Greenwood was my Saturday lunch date with my husband. We were so very sad that they closed because we had a lot of nostalgia and fond memories from there.
Since they re-opened we've visited the new location twice. On the first visit my husband and I both had a lunch special which includes an entree and an egg roll. My husband had his usual order of General Tso's Chicken and was pleased to find that it tastes the exact same as before. My usual order used to be War Su Gai, however the menu now lists the War Su Gai as spicy and I am not a huge fan of spicy food so instead I ordered Pepper Beef with Tomato which was delicious. Happily their famous egg rolls are back and yummy as ever, the duck sauce is still house made. It is now slightly less sweet but has a nice citrus balance. We also had an order of Crab Rangoon, the shapes are now triangles (they used to be smaller and pouch shaped); the new ones have a hint of sweetness and the house made hot mustard compliments them perfectly.
Today was our second visit, this time to have lunch with our 2 adult children. We ordered from the brand new dim sum menu that was highly anticipated by our son and daughter. It did not disappoint! Here is the rundown of what we ordered: The Steamed BBQ Pork Bun has a savory center of BBQ pork and the bread was light and fluffy, easily one of our new favorites.
The Scallion Pancakes were thin, crispy and amazing with a tiny drop of soy sauce.
The Siu Mai dumplings were a blend of pork and shrimp topped with a small dollop of roe which gave them a lovely briney note.
The Deep Fried Shrimp Roll was very crispy and stuffed with a generous filling of shrimp.
The Pan Fried Turnip Cake was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The natural flavor of cooked daikon radish was a nice palate cleanser between sampling our meat based items.
The Steamed Creamy Egg Yolk Bun we got for dessert was light and fluffy on the outside like the BBQ Pork Bun and filled with a salty/sweet egg custard.
Seeing our regular servers Joe and Mae as well as Jeff (the owner) again made us very happy. The interior of the restaurant is absolutely beautiful. While not everything is the same as the old Lotus Garden it was still two delicious meals and we can't wait to go back next Saturday for our lunch date to explore the new menu more!
Past review for former location in Greenwood: Hands down the best Chinese restaurant in the Indianapolis area. Their eggrolls are amazing and the duck sauce and spicy mustard are made in house! There is a reason Lotus Garden has been in business...
Read moreWhen I walked in the door there was no one there to greet you. However I walked in farther and there was my favorite waitress, Mae, from the Old location, and a Manager from there also. He took us to our table. The menu was completely different from the former location. SOME PEOPLE like change. However, I say, "If it ain't broke, then don't fix it!!". Maybe the new owners thought they should change things up to bring in more customers. Or maybe a younger crowd. Well no one asked me, but I think the new owners need to stick with some of the things that the "old" customers were used to AND enjoyed! For instance, the hot mustard on the tables is not as hot as it once was. My husband thinks it tastes watered down. He did inquire about the sweet & sour sauce that is on the tables. It is very thick and tastes quite florally, big orange taste. One of the owners told him that they are using up the new batch, and then will bring back the old sweet & sour sauce. Who knows how much they have of the new sauce or how long we will have to wait to get the "good stuff". My husband ordered General Tso's with Tofu. He said it was the best Tofu he had ever had. I ordered pork fried rice. It tasted as good as I remembered it. Now for the EGG ROLLS!! Oh my, they are terrible!! Nothing like what they served at the former location. Maybe they need to find whoever made those and bring them to the new location!! OR get the recipe for them! The outside of the egg rolls are waay too thick & chewy. I could barely cut thru it with my fork. I was so disappointed with the NEW LOTUS GARDEN. They have a lot of new items on the menu. Dim Sum is new, as well as other items. I noticed a lot of customers were past customers because they talked to Mae & her Brother. I'm wondering if they were happy with their dining experience. Our waitress was not Chinese, but was a good waitress. Will I go back? Or would I recommend it? I won't be going back for quite awhile. Not sure if I'd recommend this place. Maybe if they bring back some of the previous items....
Read moreLotus Garden has always been a favorite for my family to go to.. when they were at their old location; seems like it's just not the same since they moved. Food is still good quality and I liked my Crab Ragoons as I did before, but the service though this time.. for a quick carry-order was pretty bad n' not worth the money. The Manager on duty was short with me when taking my order, which I would understand if they were busy, but literally had only 2 tables occupied in this huge place at the time. They don't accept special request.. all I wanted was a side of Garlic Sauce w/ my Ragoons, same stuff they would give ya at Yummi Bowl. No we can't do that for whatever reason.. My order was sitting around for 10 mins when I came to pick up the order until anybody noticed me.. ughh, n then when I asked for Duck Sauce, it was a big deal and literally told me to go take the packs off of the tables if I needed some.. N then got my Dad an order of the General Pso Beef ($15) which looked pretty pathetic w/ the unordered veggies & with a unnecessary Huge Soup bowl of General Pso's Sauce lol ... on the side w/ the little amount of Beef entrée. 👎
Needless to say.. disappointed. I miss the old Lotus Garden. You could get some grear service, amazing crab legs, and garlic butter heated over a candle. That was fire back then! 🔥
..Just like alot of the reviews I've seen.. it's sad if you were "impressed" by this location.. you obviously were never at the older Location and were never able to experience that...
