If you know me, you know about me and my life-long serious relationship with pizza (and cats, but that’s a different posting). Finally made time to try a new pizza spot—Sam’s Square Pie. Pepperoni is not usually my thing, but I knew I had to try the El Jefe based off the description (2 kinds of pepperoni [not burnt--the edges are meant to be dark & crispy!], spicy Italian sausage [Mmm], brick cheese blend, red sauce, Jalapeno garlic ricotta, Mike’s hot honey, pecorino & parm). El Jefe did not disappoint! Just the right amount of meats and cheeses, and that hot honey is what did me in.
Some might cringe at the prices, but don't lose sight of how much dough is involved per piece. A small Detroit pie easily feeds 2-3 adults with 2-3 slices each. We had leftovers but discovered Sam's pies heat up nicely in the oven, air fryer, or even a skillet (Don't microwave it, y'all. C'mon!).
Detroit-style pizza is one of my fav kinds. Excited to learn Sam’s is starting to offer Sicilian-style too. Will definitely be back again to sample more from the menu.
Other notes: Interior is eclectic but endearing. Great pops of color with the fresh flowers on the tables too. To-Go large pies get the perk of those cool head cut-outs that are IG-perfect. We aren't from Indy, but it was obvious that Sam's Square Pie and their patrons have a strong community vibe. Unexpected but cool.
TL; DR = Pizza is my love language, and @sams_square_pie...
Read moreWOW... crunchy crust, interesting combinations on traditional pizza toppings - huge pieces and so good. I'm not a huge pizza fan but these Detroit style pizzas managed to be filling but not super heavy and doughy. And the ingredients... Really fresh and who has heard of honey drizzled on a pizza? Very little but adds so much! We had 3 pies tonight - 6 small between 6 people and we each got a piece of a different pizza and it was perfect... and walked away with the bill being about $12.50 per person - UNREAL for the quality of the food. The High Plains Drifter is a great pizza with pesto and spicy sausage for anyone who can't do red sauce... The El Jeffe for meat and spice lovers... and there are 2 vegetarian options ... we had one with red and pesto sauce... AMAZING. And the staff was great, having fun - even when it got packed for about an hour - the vibe was chill and friendly... we saw couples, families... REALLY recommend giving this small business, fresh pizza joint a try! Well worth the drive from Broad Ripple to 10th and Rural!! Cute and upcoming neighborhood!! You won't be disappointed! Owner said open Thursday, Fri & Saturday now but adding hours as they add customers... so get on down there - truly, best pizza I've...

While in town for the Indy 500—I was searching for a place that offered more than just another slice. I came across Sam’s Square Pizza and decided to give it a try based on the reviews. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip.
As soon as we walked through the door, we were welcomed by Sam himself. His genuine hospitality and enthusiasm for what he does were immediately clear. It is not every day you walk into a restaurant and feel like the owner is as excited to serve you as you are to eat.
We ordered “The El Jefe,” and I have to admit, I was not prepared for what landed on our table. The crust was thick but surprisingly light—perfectly baked and clearly the result of serious attention to the dough (I later learned it's cold-fermented for four days). The balance of flavors—ricotta, jalapeño, and a subtle honey glaze—was on point. Sweet heat with a creamy finish. Just outstanding.
This is the kind of pizza that makes you rethink what you thought pizza could be.
If you are in Indy, skip the chains and head straight to Sam’s. It is not just about the food—it is about the experience, the passion, and the people....
