We were highly impressed with the food and the ambiance!!
Get the sea bass dish!! Get the jollof platter with a protein, we got chicken. I wish I had more space in my stomach it was so good. The night we went, the sea bass was over a bed of lobster corn curry instead of collards. There was so much lobster. The corn curry, the okra, the crunchies on top of the perfectly cooked fish: Home run!!
The jollof platter was also a hit!
Sweet plantain: perfection ✅
Black beans: 11/10 best I’ve ever had. Soupy but Seasoned like no other. ✅
Arugula: lightly dressed, balances the flavors ✅
Chicken: perfectly cooked, tender, flavorful ✅
Jollof rice: delicious with a legit touch of spice for those of us who don’t prefer spicy food. To be clear, it was not too hot for me but the heat was there enough for me to want to mention it. When you eat the jollof rice with the chicken and plantain you’ll be fine. Eating the rice by itself, you’ll feel some heat it if you’re a lightweight. People like my boyfriend who like spice won’t even notice the heat. ✅
We stopped by without a reservation on a busy Saturday night around 8:30pm. The place was packed and there were people waiting in front of us. We were fortunate to get a table in less than 10 minutes 🙌🏾 The kitchen closes at 9:15. There is a large Ralph’s parking lot behind the restaurant. Some spots are reserved for school staff but we parked there anyway since it was Saturday night and all the other businesses looked closed.
The service was very slow. The food didn’t take long to come out but it felt like we waited close to 15 minutes to order, didn’t get checked on while we ate, the waitress stopped by to tell us that the kitchen was closing just in case we wanted dessert but other than that we were on our own. We had to flag someone down to get to-go boxes, then we had to flag someone down again to pay the check. We understand that a lot of places are short staffed and doing their best but it helps when there is some acknowledgment like “thank you for your patience” or “sorry that took awhile” or something.
That being said the food was more than worth it! We are definitely going back! I need to try those garlic noodles and I would eat that sea...
Read moreWe stumbled upon Two Hommés from Yelp. We were able to make a reservation within 30 minutes of us wanting to go! We were greeted by the wonderful, Nita. She was so friendly and was patient with us as we asked questions about the menu. She intrigued us with the homemade watermelon lemonade. It was amazing!
We ordered appetizers, a main meal, and because both were so good, we tried the dessert, too!
For the appetizer we tried the Honey Berbere Chicken Bites. Those were amazing on their own, but when you dip them in the citrus aioli, get ready to take your tongue to another planet! It blew our minds how those flavors mixed so well. I’ve never tasted anything like it. Wow!
Next up, the main course meals. I tied the garlic noodle with the fried catfish. Wow wow wow! I’ve never had anything so delicious!! My friends ordered the Jollof platter with fried catfish, and also the mahi mahi tostados. NOTHING disappointed! If I knew how Heaven tasted, I bet this would come real close!
Then for dessert, we tried the liquid peach cheesecake. Right?! Read that again… it’s something to experience.
I’m so grateful for experiencing Two Hommés. I’ll be back to try brunch!
Don’t walk, RUN to try it for yourself!
(Don’t mind the low quality pictures, I had to take screenshots from my Instagram...
Read moreCame here for dinner this weekend. I loved all the food taste-wise. We got the Honey Berbere Chicken ($15), Braised Short Ribs on Garlic Noodles ($20 +$22 for short ribs), and Catfish over Garlic Noodles ($20 + $8 for catfish). The standout was the honey berbere chicken. The spices were amazing!
However, I don't think the price of these dishes make sense in the setting. To me, the price of a dish is made up of the quality of the food and the experience you have in the restaurant setting. Basically, you order either garlic noodles or jollof rice and that doesn't come with a protein. You then have to choose a protein to go on top of either. In my case, we chose the catfish ($8) and braised short ribs ($20). I think $20 is too much for garlic noodles especially in the restaurant environment. The vibe of the place is like a fast casual sit down where you grab a beer and some food. If I were to pay $20 for garlic noodles, I would expect something more trendy and upscale. Additionally, the garlic noodles also didn't seem to sit right in my stomach that night :( To compare, I recently went to a ramen place called Tonchin LA. The vibe is a lot more upscale and trendy. You can get a bowl of ramen with everything for $20. While here, getting the garlic noodles and a protein costs you...
