Edit: I called in and spoke with the manager Steve. He was very professional and took my concerns seriously. He sounded very sincere that he's going to do his best to address what is within his control to fix (some stuff is issues he'll have to discuss with corporate). He was a very straight shooter and made a big effort to make up for our less than stellar experience. I wanted to make sure our waitress was taken care of as our service was fine. As such i think it is only fair to bump up the review a star and happy to continue revising it if our next meal/experience improves. I certainly want it to because there really aren't that many breakfast places around here! Happy to give them another chance given Steve's highly receptive attitude towards my feedback.
Used to be alright but todays breakfast for two all said and done was ~40 bucks and boy was it a disappointment. Soggy biscuit egg sandwich with under cooked bacon. Really bad coffee tasted like tobacco and as if the filter basket hadn't been properly cleaned in a week (Steve covered his protocol with me and I told him where I felt he needed to revise it and gave him some suggestions as well as some stuff to discuss with corporate). The omelette was also sub par. Onions had barely touched the heat. Asked for something to specifically be omitted and it was not. Meat (philly steak)was over cooked. Used some fake butter substitute on the toast. Water tasted really off didn't feel comfortable drinking it (Irmo tap water has had some reports indicating it may not be safe to drink and i don't drink our tap water at home anymore since at least a year or two). Grit's weren't as unbearable as they have been in the past but still taste like a packet of instant grits from the pantry. I've had an outstanding omelette from there in the past 12 months but only once out of the half dozen or so times We've been there. This place is very hit or miss and in my experience mostly miss. The wait staff however is usually very polite. Also the table had food all over the floor when we got there. New menu material was obnoxious. The 45 second song renditions on the over head music was...
Read moreI like Eggs Up grill much better than Lizard's Thicket for so many reasons. The least of which is the food. This store is bright, clean, has good service, quick food turn around, and the food is always good. They have a much better menu selection than any of the other breakfast options in Columbia and certainly fresher. I've eaten here several times and always been happy with my meal.
That being said, Sunday I did have a few small complaints. Because it was Sunday it was extra busy since we got there around 10 am. The wait was fine, about 10 minutes but there is a very small waiting area and only half walls separating the "lobby" from the restaurant. While waiting I didn't care, but we got seated at a table by one of those walls and right behind the hostess desk and front door. Needless to say, it's not a great spot for conversation, staying warm, or not having waiting people practically at the table with you as they congregate and lean on the walls.
Also, I'm not sure what was with my waitress, but she annoyed me. Not because of bad service, quite the opposite. She was as good and attentive as one can be with a full house. My complaint is that she stood over my shoulder every time she came to the table, so if I wanted to see her I had to turn in my chair to talk to her. When ordering my food, I had to turn completely around to talk to her because she was right behind me. Each time she came to the table I had to turn to talk to her, not even just turn my head, but my whole body. I finally just stopped and let my table mate talk for us both.
If you haven't eaten there, try it. The atmosphere is meh, but the food is great. Let's hope you get the seat your...
Read moreThis is the kind of restaurant you really hoped would be good, because it's got the great atmosphere and friendly staff! Sadly, it was a huge disappointment. I'd really hoped it would be much better than what it turned out to be.
First, the wait staff was good. Very friendly, and they seemed attentive. But it also seemed that our waitress was the only one working the dining area. Carmen, I think was her name. This is not a good review, but no fault of hers.
I'll also add, I think it's kid's breakfast menu is great. Three items to choose from, and all worthy of my five year old! It was really nice to see that as an option.
The coffee was promptly served, and within minutes so was my "Grand Classic" breakfast. Which is supposed to include two eggs, bacon, sausage, country potatoes, grits and toast.
What I got (see the picture) lacked any bacon, but two different types of sausage. But my biggest problem? Eggs over easy weren't hot, hell they were barely room temperature. And so was the sausage. Room temperature. And did I mention those bland, water soaked grits? Room temperature as well.
A hot breakfast is supposed to be HOT. Especially since it really was served fast. So why was it barely warm?! The only thing hot was the coffee. Hugely disappointed.
I'm gonna throw in, the table was sticky in spots, and don't dare handle the syrup container without having something to clean your hands with. I don't think anyone had wiped it down since pre-COVID-19.
I really wish this place had been better. But I think the White Rock Kwik-Way is the only place around that knows how to serve a...
