GOOD FOR TAKE OUT ONLY: This restaurant serves good food, but the customer service is awful.
I'm not from the area, so maybe there are not many Thai restaurants in this area because I cannot fathom why this place is highly rated. Due to the customer service, I would never come here with friends or on a date. I do recommend this restaurant for takeout.
Here is my experience: I came with a couple of friends to this restaurant around 8pm on a Saturday night in mid-January 2017. When we got there, there was ample parking available, and literally one other table of customers. It made us wonder, on a Saturday night, if we had made a mistake.
I felt a tickle in my throat, so I opted for hot green tea and some hot soup. We had a male waiter, and whenever we asked about the dishes, he basically said he didn't know how anything really tasted because he just started. There was an Asian lady sweeping up (which makes for a really uncomfortable atmosphere while you're eating, because it makes it seem like she wants to close up soon), and she came near the table but stayed about 5 feet away, talking loudly at us, and asked us if everything is ok. I asked her what is the difference in size between a cup and a bowl for the soups, and she could not describe it well. I said I have a taste for a Thai tea, but I have a cold, so I didn't want it cold. Could they pop it in the microwave and give me a hot version of that.
She was a bit confused about this request, but brought it out. When it got to the table, she hands it to me and proceeds to tell me that this is the last time they will do a hot Thai tea, because the chef had to stand at the microwave and watch the tea being made so it wouldn't spill. Thai tea is normally premade, and they just pour it in a glass. I was shocked that she is telling me all this WHILE GIVING ME MY TEA, and my friends and I were staring at this lady like she was just crazy.
The hot version of Thai tea is amazing and delicious. Her attitude, however, made me not enjoy this tea. Additionally, the fact that someone could not put something in the microwave despite what they charge for a Thai tea blew me away. Finally, you've never seen me or my friends before, so why are you talking to us like we're coming back and WARNING us not to order this again? You could just have said that IF we tried to order it AGAIN. It was strange.
So, without a response from us, she went away and continued sweeping. 3 minutes later, without any instigation from us, from about 10 feet away, she loudly started talking about WHY she cannot offer hot Thai tea again. My dining partner was like, is this lady crazy. I tried to change the subject so we could actually enjoy our meal.
When I got my hot pot of soup, they also brought tiny bowls and Asian soup spoons to eat with. The problem with the soup was there were these GIANT wedges of tomato in there, and those wedges could not FIT on the soup spoon. Additionally, I got shrimp in my soup, and the tails were left on. When you're eating a soup, does it make sense to have the tail on? I had to use my fingers in between eating this soup, and again, this is not really great when you're in a restaurant dining with others. Smaller vegetable pieces and shrimp with tails cut off would have been improvements on the soup. I would have told the restaurant lady this feedback directly, but I didn't want to have her defensively shouting across the restaurant at me.
A gentleman in our group took the bill, and because he believes everyone should have a living wage, he tipped well. If that lady is reading this, here are a few tips: Don't start sweeping until 10 minutes before closing. When speaking to customers, go to the table and speak so only that table can hear you. Don't complain about going the extra mile with service when there are less than 10 customers in your entire restaurant on a Saturday night.
I won't be coming back to this restaurant EVER, but hopefully there are a few good takeaways from this review to make this...
Read moreI am heart broken to write this 1 star review. I LOVE this place, I think it is one of the best Thai places that I have ever had, and I eat a lot of Thai all over DFW. I even order at a 4 or 5 spicy level so you know I love my Thai. No one can match this place! I have eaten here over the past 5 years, maybe longer. Many lunches with my sister and uncounted pick up orders after work to take home and enjoy over the many years. However that has come to an end after today.
I placed my order using the Yelp website and drove there to pick up my order. Happy and thinking how I ordered way to much food as I always do here haha but I just can't stop myself from getting the crispy egg rolls with the most heavenly sweet and sour sauce; and how could I not end this meal without the sweet rice and mango? It is a must have :-) after eating the 5 star level heat that I request. Don't even get me started on the Tom Kha Soup or I may break down and cry for a hour over my loss. I order Pad Kee Mao (Basil Flat Noodles) at every new Thai place that I try and not once have I found one that could even come close to the quality of Bangkok, but due to their staff (young man working pick up) I will never return here again.
I placed my order on Yelp and drove to pick it up. Walking in the store I gave the guy at the counter my name and said I have a order to pick up. He asked to see my phone. MY PHONE???? Why would he need my phone? He wanted to see the order on my phone from Yelp. But sadly my phone was dead so I was not able to show him the screen. I knew the name on my order, I knew what was on the order even the spicy level I have for each dish and my request for extra chili oil. I have my driver license that matches the name on the order and the credit card that I paid with on the Yelp site. However this guy told me that without showing him my phone I cannot have my food. He was very rude and clearly has no understanding of how to speak to a customer. He would not give me my order and would not refund my money. He simply refused to even try and help a loyal customer. I have ordered pick up many times with Yelp from many other places and never have I had to bring them my phone to show them. I would have been find showing my ID or my card to prove who I was. After this young mans refusal to help me. I had to request to speak to the manager. It took 15 mins of me waiting for the manager to get my refund applied to my card. She was very nice but would not let me have the food that I paid for either, I had no choice but to get a refund and go home hungry. Now I am waiting at home for my frozen pizza to cook in the over. Sad night...... I have no idea how I will ever find a Thai place that can live up to Bangkok but with the staff that works there I can...
Read moreBefore they temporarily closed I would come here one a week after work! It was my favorite thai place and would tell how good this place was to my coworkers. I was excited for it to finally opened back up I work close by and decided to order some food during break around 5. The online system wasn’t working so I went inside to order I asked the person at the counter if I can place an order ahead of time for pick up around 8. They said yes I can order it and ask them what time they closed to be considerate that I’m not picking it up around the time just before they closed and then the person said 15 after and then in my head I’m like okay so they close at 8:15??? But I ordered anyways and also made sure this is the order I’m picking up at 8 right and then they said yeah 15 after (I’m like no way does this mean my food is going to be finished in 15 minutes what but I finished ordering and went back to work) Came to pick up my order after getting off from work around 8 like I said and the same person was there and said that they think I forgot about my food and I was like oh I said I was going to pick it up around 8. And yes you guessed it my food was sitting out for more than 2 hours lol Got home pretty late though due to traffic so my food was out for more than 4 hours now but luckily I didn’t get food poisoning I got the thai fried rice and pad thai. The thai fried rice was my absolute favorite item to order but it had a taste of food + unwashed old pan but the pad thai was good hence the 2*s But I kind of regretted giving a $10 tip? Also kind of scared to go back again to my once...
