You know you tried to support local business and neighborhood businesses and this is what they give you in return this is the second time I've tried Catfish House and been very disappointed this time frog leg basket was very nasty very Bland know me know me more burnt crust then anything cold fries cold hush puppies not a good experience or a taste I paid over 30 something dollars for our meals and didn't even get to eat all of mine my wife did not eat all of her her fries were cold and her food her meal was terrible I will not be eating at Catfish House ever again I do not recommend this place for a quick bite to anyone else until they can understand to get their food together and prep for customers the way that they advertise it furthermore when I called in my order the lady who answered the phone rushed through my order to where I had to repeat myself multiple times to make sure she had it right she was so adamant to get off the phone and that I'm doing COV 19 I would expect restaurants will be at the top of their game in food service which means no one is eating inside or dining inside so there's no reason for it customers meals not to be prepared hot and ready and to a good standard to where people would want to come back and pay for another meal or eat there again Catfish House I will not be returning these are my thoughts exactly thank...
Read moreThis was my first visit and I was excited because the reviews were really good. First, the cashier was really nice. She helped with my menu selections.
I had the fried catfish plate, fried clams and calamari (I wanted to sample a few items). I also tried the homemade lemonade, which was off the chain, but a little pricey. I had to wait 10 minutes for my food (was hoping for a complimentary drink-not) and I requested they not fry my fish too hard, but they did anyway.
Taste wise the catfish was good, just fried too hard. Now the clams and the calamari was tasteless to me and also fried too hard; however the sauce was good and made up for the taste. The fries were really good too with ketchup lol.
Would I go again, yes, but I think I might try something off the grill, which looked really good. Speaking of looks the catfish looked like it was fried too hard, which is why I asked they not fry mines hard--maybe he didn't get the request. I would suggest checking your food, particularly if it's take out to make sure all your requests were honored.
When I went there, there were only a few people in and out, but the facility is fairly large, the decor is good, it was clean and it didn't smell like fish, which is a must if I am going to eat their fish.
Overall a good place with...
Read moreThis place has been in Irving for decades. I used to frequent the fish joint a long time ago, under the name Top Cat, and I loved the food. I stopped the other day and noticed the name change, but to my disappointment, that's not the only change, and not for the better. Prices were high, and the service was below mediocre. I ordered the six pc catfish combo ,with fries and hush puppies, to go and it took a long time to get my order. Once I got home and opened the box though, the servings were really meager. Under Top Cat, the fried fish fillets were thicker, heartier, perfectly cooked, and you used to get plenty of fries and pups. This time, the fish was over cooked, the fries were soggy, and the puppies were too dry. It would serve them well to change the frying oil more often. The fillets are thin, so they end up tasting more like old grease than fish. I think I'm being overly generous by giving them two stars, but maybe it was an off day. Would I return again? Maybe if they charged accordingly to match the quality of service and food. But no, I will not return. Even the worst cook could make a better fish fry with fries and hush puppies at home for the same or lower price from the grocery store. Feel free to try your luck though...
