KB's BBQ Smokehouse — Restaurant in Irvington

To anyone reading reviews because they're on the fence about ordering from this place for the first time, I hope this one helps nudge you forward because this place is one of the best food experiences we've had in a long time. I don't know or have any affiliation to the business. We placed an order and here we are.

Here's a rundown of our first order here at KB's BBQ Smokehouse:

Believe it or not, this was for two people and was obviously way more food than any two people would need to eat in one sitting. Once we started reading the menu, we felt the need to sample pretty much everything. Before mentioning the food itself, as a couple who orders takeout WAY TOO MUCH, the prices for everything here were so beyond fair compared to the portion and quality you receive.

I'm not going to review every item but I wanted to point out a few important things that I feel will help first time customers.

We did not order the Blueberry Cheddar Cornbread Muffins initially because, even though we love cornbread, the cheddar blueberry threw us off. Fortunately, 4 were included for free which was an awesome gesture and turned out to be one of our favorite parts of the entire meal. Don't hesitate on these. It's just really good cornbread with a little extra touch.. the whole blueberries are lightly spread throughout the batter.

Sweet Potato Coconut fries: Didn't really know what to expect with these. On the dessert menu but we ate them along side the other food. I especially appreciated that the coconut and sauce/drizzle whatever you would call it was spread throughout each layer of the fries, not just on the top. This was awesome and it makes an awesome dessert but isn't so sweet that it's impossible to enjoy with some BBQ flavors like we did.

There was nothing we ordered that turned out to be less awesome than anything else. Meat was tender, wings were crisp but not dry, flavor showed in every dish (and not too much of it). The beans were impressive as someone always trying to find good baked beans and failing. The drinks were a nice touch visually and tasted great, more awesome at price point of ~$2 which we felt was...

Just my honest opinion. Went there with my daughter yesterday. First time there. Went by all the positive reviews this place has, and decided to give it a try. First of all let me start off by saying this place is nicely decorated. Very clean inside. The young lady at the counter was helpful. We ordered nearly $70 worth of food (large family). It seemed very busy there which is a plus, means business is good. We ordered the following: (1) Honey Glazed Grilled Salmon platter with Purple Potato Salad as a side.The salmon was delicious, HOWEVER, the portion was super small. I should have taken a picture. I was very disappointed. I was looking for the other half of my salmon. I mean it was small. And look, I know restaurants don't like to give large portions of certain items, but what I received was just ridiculously small, it was in a small brown box. For $13 platter, I should have received more fish. The potato salad was good, I would get it again. You can tell it's homemade. (2) Ribs Platter with Mac and Cheese - ordered this for my mom - she received 4 short pieces, and they were more on the burned side. She didn't eat it. These were also in a small brown box. Mac and cheese was pretty good. (3) Jerk Chicken with Sweet Potato Souffle. My daughter had this and raved about the chicken. Still a small portion of chicken compared to what other restaurants give. Sweet potato souffle was raved about. (4) Seafood Loaded Fries - These came in a larger box and were well worth the money. Real crab meat used in this, not the imitation. 4 pieces of Shrimp, well seasoned. I would definitely get this again. (5) Brisket Loaded Fries - Lord have mercy are these good. You will not be disappointed in these. I would DEFINITELY get these again. All in all, we were looking for a go-to place for BBQ, with the small portions this place is not it for us, once in a while I'll go there for the loaded fries. Just surprising, maybe because they had so many orders to fill no one was paying attention to portions?...

I ordered the seafood fries, signature wings with cornbread, mac and cheese and watermelon mint tea. I picked up myself via grubhub.

The good - The employees were very friendly and professional.

The signature wings were delicious. They were very nice sized wings as well. Cooked well-done. They were still crispy even though they had sauce on them. Just how I like my wings to be. The sauce they used on the wings was very good. I will be back for them in the future.

The cornbread tasted very good. I liked the hint of blueberry it had. It was something I never tasted before and I loved it.

The watermelon mint tea was good too. I read a review on here where someone said it was too sweet. I didn't think so. And I always pour my drinks over ice so it was balanced out anyway.

The bad - The seafood fries were what I was looking forward to trying since I've never had before. They were a little cold when I tasted them in my car. Not a huge issue for me personally but when I got home, I did need to put them in the microwave.

The seafood fries tasted like the only seasoning they used was old bay and nothing else. It had shrimp, lump crab meat, cheese, waffle and regular fries. It sounds delicious and this is why I ordered. But they tasted like they just threw all those things together and topped with a ton of old bay seasoning. I definitely could have made this at home myself and made it better. The shrimp was undercooked, bland tasting and "watery" as if this shrimp was pulled off a shrimp cocktail that had been sitting on ice all day. I will definitely not order this menu item from here again.

Mac and cheese. The texture and cheesiness was good however they put too much garlic powder in it. The first bite felt like I was slapped in the face with a open bottle of garlic powder. Very odd taste to me and I won't order this again from here.

All in all this was my first time here and I can say yes I will come back to try...
