January 2020 Fresh fish caught that day. That's all they will offer in terms of fish; local catch. Great service, even when it's full of people. Uma also has hamburgrers and poki bowls. All is healthy and fresh. I want to go again.
Added on Jan 17, 2021 This place needs new management. I've gone four (4) times since January 2020-Jan 16, 2021. All four times, I've had to leave without eating anything because they were unable to serve us. I've gone with family, friends, and just my husband on date night.
Twice they've been about to close. Once was for Pandemic. While Uma's was indeed open, they would not serve us because they had to close at 9 pm. but we arrived at 7:30 pm. They were closing early so the staff could get home before curfew. However, I did call ALL DAY long to confirm these operating hours. They don't answer the phone because the bartender said there is no physical phone at the restaurant so nobody is to answer it to tell you what time they close. Also, Uma's doesn't update their business hours on Google (so easy to do), so you won't know what time they really close. That was the excuse for two other visits to Uma's.
Then there was yesterday. We arrived at 6:15 pm. and the server gave us the disclaimer that the food was taking more than 1 hour so we should reconsider staying unless we had loads of patience. We ordered drinks instead; one beer and one gin and tonic. The beer arrived, but no gin and tonic. Since my husband was already finishing the beer, I asked the bartender about my drink but she didn't know anything, then I asked the server and nothing, then the second server, and it just never came. We paid $8 for a cup of beer (solo cup) and had to leave again with no food.
Uma's has the best location, vibe, and beach view. However, the management needs to get its...
Read moreWhile the food was delicious, the service was not. Extremely chill vibes here, and the servers didn’t come or our table or checked on us. We had to get up and ask them for drinks, and for food. The food took a very long time and what was brought to us was inaccurate according to the menu. For example, I asked for a bowl of soup that was supposed to come with tostones. I only got a bowl of soup... and it was very overpriced for not coming with the tostones. The pina colada was amazing, as was the food, but it came to us very slow. This is a good place for chilling, relaxing, and good if you’re not in a hurry for your food. Another big thing to note, the place could use some improvements, especially if they want to be family friendly. We came on a weeknight. There were 3 or 4 families with infants and toddlers. Our kids tried to play and walk around freely, but it was not easy because they have no handrails on stairs, there’s an area with no secure border that people can easily fall through, especially kids, and there were various high places that the kids were walking around that they could easily fall on. I had to be extremely careful with my little one because they could have gotten seriously hurt, or I could have as I am very clumsy. If they’d make a few minor improvements to their seating areas, it would be amazing and much safer for everyone.
It wouldn’t take much to make this already awesome beach side restaurant a bit safer with the fall risk areas, as well as more attentive service.
I’d come here again for the good food and beautiful ocean view, but I really hope they make some...
Read moreThe beautiful scene views of the beach made me give it two stars! The first thing I noticed was they were reconstructing the place. There was a lot of noise from the tools and what not, but I didn’t mind it so much since I was really hungry and the place seemed nice from the shore. As I walk in one of the servers was friendly and welcomed us, the other not so much. She gave me the impression that it was hard for her to smile and be there. The drinks were hot and didn’t have enough ice, making it hard to enjoy. Menu was very unfamiliar to me as a native, but I decided to go with the most familiar thing to me which was some type of cheeseburger (lamb/beef) with fries, and empanadas. The burger was so dry it seemed like it was reheated in the microwave after it sat in the refrigerator for days, no condiments on the burger except for a lettuce, tomato and a slice of cheese that had the texture of paper. It was so dry. The fries were very hard to chew on. The empanadas were flavorless. It was such a horrible experience. We bagged our food and then later gave it to the street dogs, and they even hesitated to try! The price? I don’t care about the price, but if you’re going to charge $17 for a burger I expect the best possible burger I can get by the beach, not leftovers from God knows when reheated in the microwave. Also, how about a variety of music. The atmosphere is lovely, but we are in Puerto Rico. Mix it up...
