This is our 3rd- 4th time at Bombay Sitar over the last two years (family of 6, we cook more than we go out) and it has never disappointed. They are the only place locally I have found that adds spice like I used to find i n Phoenix and Portland. This was the first time I ordered online rather than calling in so I did not have the opportunity to increase the spice level but the baseline was amazing. Our 8 year old is always the most picky and he still enjoyed the lamb vindaloo and RAVED about the butter chicken. Time after time the food has remained consistently amazing and that speaks volumes. I appreciate my meal every time we place an order and it keeps us coming back. I’ve looked over other reviews and while some claim it is more expensive, $75 fed our entire family and frankly we spend that if not more of we go out to a large chain and the food at large chains hasn’t been consistent since COVID if not before.
Though, I will say what compelled me to wrote this review more than anything is that it was the first time I picked up our order rather than my husband. You walk in and the aroma is fantastic and the staff is inviting and prompt. It was the first time we ordered drinks to go and the fact that they took the time to consider our traveling back home and packaging up the tea and ice separately so it wasn’t watered down when we got home has got to be the single most considerate experience I have had ordering out. It is those little things that make me say I would take spending a few extra bucks here over spending $20 less in a drive thru. Just a wonderful experience. I didn’t get any pictures of the food because my kids absolutely smashed but everything we ordered was top tier and I look forward to our next meal! Thank you...
Read moreI am poor, so since covid when they saw to permanently closing their buffet, I have only been back once and gotten carry out once. The food is bar none the best Indian cuisine in town heartily beating out what is offered by Kebab and Curry on the other end of belden. But cost v. portion sizes is prohibitive for me. I eat like Im being starved at home.
For a time, when I was in a really dark period of the soul and without a job or car I would still uber over to Bombay and binge eat my feelings into submission. The korma, the pakora, the fried chilis, gulab jamun, goat curru, aloo cabbage and mushroom matar and their rice pudding and lassa are solidified pleasant culinary memories that will forever be in my heart.
Prior to this location, I believe bombay sitar was located next to carpet time. I never went there then but once they assumed control of the site from the asian buffet that used to be there (bad food, but had a faux river in it!!) I have been in more than I can begin to count.
I like the paint on the exterior and the sitar. Makes the venue 'pop' for sure.
I miss the owner and Summer at the register. They were always grateful for the patronage and so so kind. I wish I wasnt so self-conscious about not knowing what all the menu has to offer without having tried it on the bar in previous years, and that I were more financially stable. If either or both of those things change for me one day I am eager to become a semi-regular again. Perhaps visual representations of the dishes in the menu or online? I bet that would boost engagement and sales for you!
All my respect and wishes for your continued successes for many, many years to come....
Read moreBombay Sitar has been my favorite Indian restaurant now for over 10 years. So much so, that my wife and I would drive an hour from Brunswick to eat there. Initially, we'd go for the buffet (since we aren't familiar with many of the dishes it was a nice way to try different things). When covid killed buffets, Bombay Sitar also removed theirs. Now, many places are once again bringing buffets back but not Bombay Sitar. Heaven forbid. We recently went to lunch again at Bombay Sitar and they've changed recipes, the cook(s) or something. While not bad, at all, the Chicken Tikka Mughlai has changed. Weird because you can't even find this dish ANYWHERE else so why change it??? We tried the usual assorted vegetarian appetizer and while, again, everything was good... the aloo tikka and paneer were different. The puri was also removed from the menu but our server said they'd make some for us which was great customer service. I should note the entire menu was overhauled since we'd last been able to make it down - lunch combos and the like. I guess to try to drum up more business. Thing is, they're so far away from us, I'm not as eager to go back as I used to be. We use to make it a point to visit as frequently as we could. Now I'm looking around and other Indian restaurants closer to where I live. If what made Bombay Sitar special to me is no longer the same as what I...
