I am an avid seller with this chain of retail stores (Clothes Mentor, Plato’s Closet, Once Upon a Child) and I have NEVER received the treatment I received from this location, especially the lady who claims to be the owner named Barb! I dropped off one small bag of clothes to sell at before 3pm. I was told by the rude employee who checked me in that it would be 2-3 hours and they would call or text me once they were done with my buy. I was fine with that, but since I’m from a different city I had to stay in N Canton and wait, keep in mind I had my two year old toddler with me. Fast forward, I wait in N. Canton 3 hours with no update, so I finally headed to the store. When I got there the doors were locked and all FIVE employees working today (6/24/21) stood there and stared at me, even after I knocked. It was just at 6pm. I called in and one employee answered the phone and said they refused to open the door or give me my items back because they just closed. I explained to them I never got a phone call or text and I just wanted my clothes so I can head home. They refused so I told them I’m contacting the police, which I did. The alleged owner Barb came to the door and said I’m wasting my time calling the police because they’re still not going to give me my items. So they could come to the door to tell me they refuse to open it instead of just opening it and handing me my bag of items so I can go. At this point, it’s theft! They sent me a text at 6:17pm telling me my pickup was ready while all this was going on. So an officer arrives and they won’t let me inside while they talk to him. Well I found out why. They LIED and told him I was aware the buy could take up to 72 hours and I was told that by the employee who checked me in which I absolutely was NOT! They also said I signed a “store contract” stating it could take up to 72 hours. This is false. I am a previous employee of Plato’s Closet their sister store and they ALL function the same, cash same day. If you don’t arrive to pick up your items they withhold the right to donate it to a church. The website also states “CASH SAME DAY”. So, bc Barb told the officer something untrue, they kept my clothes. I am back in my city with no cash and I don’t have my items. The officer stated he although he didn’t agree with it, they were playing it this way (his exact words) and because it is a civil matter he can’t force them to give me my items. I will be following up legally. Barb was extremely rude when I asked for their contact information. She even chuckled as if she thought I was too incompetent to know how to handle this situation and she was extremely unprofessional.
I would also like to add THREE other sellers all came when they received their text after 6pm and they refused to open the door for us all or give us our items back.
Save your time and energy. Ever since the old owners sold the chain it’s gone down hill and the professionalism and integrity is completely out the door. I will update this review once this situation has...
Read moreIf I could give this place zero stars I would. I have shopped here several times with no issues but yesterday I was treated so rudely by the employees.
I'm a 23, almost 24 year old woman. I still wear some junior clothing, but mind you that I also own a business and have a lot of professional "Women's clothing". I also was getting ready to hit the gym after i had dropped off my clothes so I was wearing workout clothes.. Keep this in mind as I tell you my lovely experience.
So anyways...
I had three bags of clothes that I was planning on donating to goodwill, but obviously if I could make any money on them, it was worth a shot. So first I took my clothes to Platos right next door first. They found several items and paid me 32.00. Thanks Platos! So I still had several items left, so I went to clothes mentor. In my bags were all of my nice women's clothig.. nice dress pants, sweaters, dresses etc.... The lady behind the counter noticed the tape on my bags from Platos and asked if I had just come from there. So i said "yeah." and she quickly snapped at me that they "Only sell women's clothing and if you just came from platos then we won't be interested in anything you own" and then started rambling off several clothing brands they buy. I told her that there were a lot of nice clothes in my bag and that I don't only wear junior style clothing. And she quickly snapped at me again in a very nasty tone saying "I didn't say you don't have nice clothes we just don't buy anything juniors and we don't like when they're mixed together, you need to separate them!" ...WOW. So i handed her my stuff and she asked if i'd wait in the store and I said yes. She said to look for my name on the board and no longer than 2 minutes later, I see my name written. They didn't even LOOK through my bags. I go up to see if they bought anything and I get a different lady. SHE TOO is super rude and tells me "This is ALL junior stuff, we don't want any of it, the only thing we can buy are these heels." Okay Lady.. because I'm sure you ACTUALLY looked through my things in two minutes. At that point I just had to leave because it wasn't even worth getting into it with them.
Just because I'm younger looking and was wearing workout clothing and not all professionally dressed doesn't mean I'm not a professional. I felt like Julia Roberts in pretty woman when the snobby store owners wouldn't serve her because of the way she was dressed. It sucks because I actually really like their clothes for the prices, but i will NOT be returning and I would recommend that nobody else does either if they want to be treated...
Read moreUntil today, I was a satisfied customer. I took a freshly dry-cleaned Calvin Klein Dress into the store. I purchased the dress less than two years ago, and wore it three times. Since it was a classic, "little black dress" in a size 24, I figured it would be a desired item for resale. Wrong. The woman who waited on me gave my dress a cursory glance, declared it to be "out season", and said they couldn't take it. When I pressed for details, she handed me off to another saleswoman who said they only take items that are less than two years old. I explained that the dress can still be found online, but to no avail. The clerk also found a miniscule spot on the bottom of the dress, and said they also couldn't take the dress because of the spot. I have shopped at this store for years, and have seen lesser-quality, worn-looking older items from Walmart, Target, and Kmart on their shelves every time I go in. This is not a high-end resale shop, but the clerk acted as if I was attempting to sell a worn, dirty, and outdated piece of clothing. She also questioned whether I had ever been in the store before: as if I was a new customer to the store - unfamiliar with "their" standards.
I have spent much money in this store, but will not be going back. They didn't have to buy my item, but they left much to be desired in their demeanor and...
