Normally I really enjoy El Canon in Grove City. The experience this Cinco de mayo (2023) was by far the worst of my trips there and near the bottom of my experiences of any restaurant.

But upfront: it's probably one of the busiest days of the year for them being May 5th.

The details: Ordered online at 415 for a 5PM pickup. Paid online for a meal for 2 adults + 2 young kiddos and 2 grandparents (for a surprise). Got there a little before 5. Waited about 5 minutes and someone walks in saying "this isn't our carry out. We realized it when we were drinking the margaritas and going through the meals that we didn't order alcohol and only ordered for 2 people". Clue #1 that this wasn't going to end well.

Faat forward an hour and a half later and 3 additional order mistakes, we finally get "close enough" to our order that I have to leave because everyone waiting on me is getting hangry.

Pro tip: they say they can't refund or discount meals paid online - so call in your carry out order instead of ordering online. About $100 down the drain on this trip (but they gave me a random extra margaritas of some sort for while I waited...).

Pro tip 2: they don't seem to read the comments on the per-item order so don't bother writing allergy details, etc. on there.

Will consider going again but only...

My husband and I went there last night for the first time. We see the restaurant all the time, but decided to give it a try. I ordered the arroz con pollo and my husband got the shrimp quesadilla. We also got a cheese dip appetizer. The chips and salsa were underwhelming as there wasn’t a lot of flavor to the salsa. The chips were cold. The cheese dip tasted plain and was an extremely small portion for the price. The Cheese dip was missing any hint of spice/seasoning and I was extremely disappointed as it’s one of my favorite things to order. My arroz con pollo was quite sad. The portion size was sad for being a dinner special. The chicken was cooked well and it was salted but no other flavor was there. My husband’s shrimp quesadilla was pitiful. It was poorly filled—way too much empty space in the flour tortilla, and the cheese tasted funky. We asked for refills on our waters and they never came. The service was terrible. We saw our waitress twice and they never asked us how our food was. We honestly just wanted to pay our bill and leave. We had to get food after finishing because we were both...

Last night me and my significant other tried this place for the first time. There was a party of 13 and a party of 3 ahead of us and we still only had to wait about max 10 minutes. Our server was Mannual and he was awesome. He had such a great attitude despite how busy the place was. He was attentive and patient with me as I took forever to order. Our food arrived so quickly. I have never been served so quickly at a sit down restaurant in my life. Not to mention the food was absolutely delicious. My significant other ordered the Special where he got one of every special and I ordered the chicken chimichangas. Absolutely delicious. The chicken wasn’t dry at all and were seasoned perfectly. The salsa tasted fresh and not overdone with too much cilantro like most places. The atmosphere was busy but defiantly not overwhelming whatsoever and the prices are unbeatable. We are defiantly...

A nice, clean, modern restaurant--festively decorated--just off I-71 in a suburb south of Columbus. The service was slow but the food mostly delicious. The menu was extensive with typical Mexican dishes and a large selection of unusual fish and seafood entrees. I had a tilapia fillet with a broccoli salad that was very good. The salad had finely chopped jalapeno which made it spicy but not overwhelming. I was surprised to see broccoli on the menu of a Mexican restaurant. My wife liked her custom-ordered quesadilla with mushrooms, beans, cheese, and caramelized onions. Her custom-ordered taco with lettuce and avocado was not a success: the taco shell stale, the filling mostly lettuce, and hardly a tablespoon of avocado.

Update. We have gone several times since the first review. The house margarita is very watered down. I would go with the Texas margarita, or another margarita on their menu. Food is still good. Service is lacking at times. Depends who you get. They are trying with their uptick in customers to hire more staff like many other places. Portion sizes have been way down and not consistent the last couple of visits. Margarita was horrible. Better yet disgusting!!! Not worth the money. Also do not order just plain water. It is not filtered and not good. Food though was decent. There are much better restaurants around the area than this one. Going to try again in a week or so for an update. Hopefully better.

So they call these burritos. These things are not burritos. These are as big as Taquitos you get at the frozen section at Krogers. The steak had no flavor. Cost me about $14. That's considered a dinner. Got 0 side items. The other picture is my wife's and see how little of sour cream they give you. It's as big as a nickle. Asked for more and was charged $1.50. My parents both got chimichangas and they were smaller them a Hot Pocket. Spent about $80 and none of use got full. Expensive for such little portions. Ever want to make a trip, go to El Toro in Springfield. Way, way better with way bigger portions.
