Itās been a long, slow decline, and I finally come here to ask: have we hit bottom yet, please god? I admit I come here for one specific dish, which used to be the best Iāve ever had. Their cheese grits here were phenomenal for years. Sometimes, now, they still are. Sadly, incompetent management and questionable food have left me disappointed repeatedly, consistently as I leave Broad Streetās breakfast in recent months.
The lines to order moves at a pace glacial. Somehow, counter service seems a net negative on kitchen speed, as workers appear confused and generally disorganized. Anyoneās guess if the consistent drag is the fault of the largely septuagenarian crowd, these days, or the confused employees. I read that your tastebuds die as you age. Nonetheless, I guess the fault falls on MGMT, when you go this wrong.
After placing my 10:50am order, the cashier left to prepare my order immediately, trying to be accommodating but ultimately helping no one, as the man behind me waited for someone, anyone to step up to the register for at least two minutes. I wondered the hold-up on slopping grits in a bowl with some bacon.
She finally returned with the answer: they were apparently out of grits, so sheād been dutifully scraping the containerās edges to gather me a half-filled bowl of dry, gummy grit. āAll we could scrounge up, Iām sorry.ā Iād already paid, and screw it, but I go into such detail to explain in full one minor and ultimately negligible instance of incompetence because I doubt itās unique. How many of these happen per day? I saw the fella behind meās face sour as he waited for someone to take his order. Mr. Good, I beseech you, please bring back the golden age of Broad Street cheese grits.
All this complaining to say, I finished my meal, and I will return hoping against hope my beloved cheese grits may be here again, served to me in a manner timely,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy kids and I stopped into this place looking for some breakfast. The sweet lady, Katie, took my order and make sure we got everything we needed. We sat down at a table, and our drinks were brought out. From there, we waited and waited and waited. We watched as so many orders went out, and we were confused. After about 40 minutes, we inquired about our order and it was pulled off a table where it clearly been sitting a while. Katie was extremely apologetic and offered to remake it, but as I had 3 energetic and hungry kids (one being a shrieking baby), I denied a remake and just decided to begrudgingly accept the cold food. Most restaurants, thatās where the story would end, but not here. Katie came out with a box of treats being super apologetic and noted our meal was covered, and really did show that they accepted responsibility of the issue. Since she was so nice and went above and beyond treating the situation, we purchased a plethora of other sweets and treats for the family to share. This place definitely deserves a 5-star review. We understand situations happen, but how a restaurant handles it makes awesome restaurants stand out against the rest....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIm rating solely the cafe dining part of this institution. The place looks vaguely like a trendy spot for the average middle-classer millennial in the Deep South, but it's alright at best. The food is underwhelming for the overwhelming hectic atmosphere. My mushroom and roasted peppers sandwich arrived ice cold, which was weird because the menu didn't say it was a cold sandwich. It was basically canned veggies thrown on sliced bread. Tasted aight though. But I received the wrong chips, and with a soda it was all only (sarcasm) like 17 bucks. The atmosphere is like a cattle auction, with the shouting of orders, and people bustling in and out, yet the clientele is essentially older upper middle class stay-at-home moms and businessmen on lunch break. The ladies taking orders at the counter were super nice though, so that's a plus. All in all, it's edible food, weird undeveloped atmosphere that doesn't know what it wants to be, incongruous decor, with acceptable service, for higher prices....
