Hickory Pit has been a Jxn landmark since 1979.
Pulled pork, smoked ribs, smoked chicken, brisket and burgers are all a must try!
Great sandwiches, great salads, hand cut fires and the usual sides round out the menu.
Today was a pulled pork plate w 2 sides and Texas toast. The pulled pork is smokey, tender and flavorful. It doesn’t need sauce.
The fries are hand cut and fried fresh.
The side salad is always fresh and the comeback dressing is good.
The beans are tomato-ketchup-heavy with bits of meat in them.
The Texas toast is excellent.
3-sauces to choose from; Sweet- is sweet and thin w vinegar. Mild a is hotter than mild, still thinner than a regular sauce, but good and the Hot- thicker than the other sauces and packed with red pepper flakes. It even looks hot. 🥵
The burgers are good and I’ve heard positive things about the desserts but have never had room.
Order at the counter, pay, fix your drink and they’ll bring you your order.
Quaint sitting area out front, in addition to the dining room with booths and tables. Tight parking and an active...
Read moreToday, my husband and i decided to try the hickory pit. We went in and asked about the faves and let them know it was our first time there. They were very enthusiastic about the faves. I was told the pulled sandwiches were what most people ordered so i ordered the beef with baked beans and coleslaw and my husband ordered the double burger. We later realized that the burger didnt come with anything. we also ordered pulled pork nachos since we wanted to try those too. the food came out quick but the beef was dry and and the slaw on top was drier. the sides were very lackluster with the coleslaw being warm. the nachos were nothing that you would ever think would come out with nachos. the pork was dry and crispy and the cheese was just melted shredded cheese that had all the chips stuck together. the barbecue sauce, if thats what you would call it was super watery and sweet. The only thing that i found to be any good was the tea. Was DEFINITELY not worth the over 30 DOLLARS that we paid. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND...
Read moreVisited 18th fri 2010 on our way to Memphis. Stopped for lunch and Bride and I decided to share wet rib plate lunch. Small, stand up counter to order and then your number called for pick up.Cups for drinks given upon payment and then serve yourself. This is not a sit down restaurant. The sauce was o.k. but more vinegry for our liking, thought we were in South Carolina. The ribs were indeed tender and mostly pulled from the bone cleanly about 1/4 stuck to the bone. AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH...............now to the beans...... true Bar B Que beans. Not because they are cooked w/ the smoke in the pit, but because they have what appeared to be pulled pork and jalepeno and their sauce in them. The icing on the cake was the slaw. Fresh Crisp and still juicy. Love the sweetness. If in Jackson Miss. definately a safe bet.
