First time eating here and I got the ribeye and fried shrimp dinner ($20) with onion rings and fries. The shrimp and onion rings were fantastic. That good, light crunch that makes you feel guilty later because it was fried and full of flavor. The steak was really good, thick, juicy, but a little burnt (maybe the grates needed cleaning?), and cooked nearly perfect. The fries left something to be desired (crinkle cut, basic). My plate was incredibly small for what I had ordered and I had to shift my fried foods to a napkin to make room for the steak, hidden beneath everything. Salad bar looked good when I walked in - basic, but looked fresh, at least. The menu has many, many, many items to choose from - maybe could tone it down a little, or maybe chose a different layout/font so it doesn't look so overpowering. Some things were hard to read even for my young eyes. Simple font helps. Also, more green veggies to pick from like spinach or asparagus - either are great pairings to a steak alongside a potato, for example. Menus need to be updated due to drink brand they carry - Coke now, no Pepsi. No adult drink menu = no adult drinks. Though a good beer or some kind of wine or cocktail would have gone great with the meal. The kids menu has about 15 (exaggerating - or am I?) items, which is also a bit much, but at least they have plenty to chose from for even the pickiest of eaters, or those with more refined tastes. Pricing style can be a little confusing, but, again, the layout would help. They needed a hostess/take out person as I cringe when I see waitresses having to seat the door and also doing take out orders. Then again, this was my first time, on a Friday night around 8, maybe they do have one for a different day/time? If not, they need one. In summary - food and service were great. Plenty parking. Seated mostly quickly. Downside - small plate for large amount of food, ketchup is in packets??, menu layout/print, overwhelming number of food items, and no adult beverages available. Could use an update in decor, but the food is always what brings people in - if the food is good, people will overlook how a place looks unless it's an absolute disaster. This place was clean and has newer looking seating, just not what I would have expected for this kind of restaurant - if you want to get picky about how it looks. Health score of 99, good food, clean sitting, I enjoyed it. Will...
Read moreAlways wanted to try this place because it's always packed and I've always heard good things. So, finally decided to try them out. Went on a Monday they were NOT busy, there was one couple there. I got the ribeye steak that was supposed to be medium-well with a crab leg cluster it was not freshly cooked because the meat was glued to the shell and what little meat you did get out tasted like rubber and the sresk was very well done... My son loves burgers he's never complai ed about a burger not being good and he said it wasn't very good which was surprising. But what made the whole expierence terrible, was the service. The server was NOT friendly she could tell it was our first time there she never explained anything about the salad bar or anything on the menu. Everyone has always told me it was an all you can eat salad bar so that's what I chose. She brought us our tiny salad bowls and I did not over flow it thinking i could get another bowl then after i finished i asked if we get a new bowl and she said it was just the one time. I feel like all of that should have been explained ahead of time. I was listening to another server at another table and she was explaining the menu and how it worked was very detailed and friendly. Everytime i had a question our server was VERY snappy. And walked over everytime we finished something can i grab that and i get this... I understand you're trying to clean the table off, but there's a way to do it without interrupting customers when they're still eating and we were almost done, so she could've waited another minute. The whole time we were eating i could see and feel her glaring at us the whole time.. Im just VERY disappointed with the...
Read moreThis place has a neat way to order salads if you like salad. It's not the best salad I've ever ate, but ok. The popcorn shrimp is not good. It's just SeaPack shrimp and the so called grilled shrimp is like cocktail shrimp. However, the fried shrimp, fried green tomatoes, fried mushrooms, fried fish filets and fried chicken tenders have always been really good! My husband says the steak was pretty good. I can't eat alot of fried food because it makes me sick so I wish they broiled and blackened their fish better. I've tried ordering broiled fish and it's okay. They just don't cook it right. The waitresses use to be the best around not too long ago. The young skinny dark haired girl was our favorite and in fact I have personally tipped her more than our meal because she was so good. I don't know if they are just over worked and under staffed but the last few times we went the staff is going down hill. Which use to be the best part. I will say the older short chuby red headed woman that works the front has always been rude to us every single time we come and has no business working with the public. But I guess in this day in age its hard to find good help when no one wants to get off their sorry butts to go to work! Over all the restaurant has something for everyone if you got a large group which is nice. Depending on what you order depends on how good the food is. If you order fried you should be happy if you like that. To the owners of Jimmy's I hope you find more help and get the serves back where...
