We were pleasantly surprised by this joint. It is a pretty good blend of Cajun-like and Tennessee-style Southern food. My family got a variety of dishes to try. Bourbon pork steak was really well cooked. One of the better red beans and rice dishes I've tasted outside of LA (or my own kitchen). My son's really liked the gator po'boy, but fried gator is fried gator... it is pretty much the same everywhere. We all loved the maque choux, which started sweet and ended spicy. My steamed veggies were a little overdone for my taste, but I just like my veggies a bit more crunchy. Overall, solid value for a quality menu.
The service was generally good. It wasn't slow even though it was a busy Friday night. The server was friendly and attentive. The main reason for not giving a 5-star rating was because the server couldn't describe the dishes at all beyond the basic menu discription. So, if you have food allergies like me, be patient with the servers because they will likely have to ask the cooks for the answers.
And then the live music started... this band was actually very good! Of course it was all covers, but the musicianship was very good by all members and the lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist had an excellent voice. They played a nice variety of country, blues, and rock. This definitely added a lot of extra value to the dining experience.
Update - May 2024: My wife and I visited again. As before, the food was really good. However, we had a few issues with service and management this time. My wife asked to substitute a side salad for one of her sides. The server did not inform us that we could not do that and we could only add the salad for a significant charge. So, when the bill came, I saw that we had been charged for the salad. I brought it up to the server and pointed out that my wife never received a second side even though the dish was suppose to come with two and that we shouldn't be charged for the salad. She spoke to the manager who refused to adjust the check or offer a second side to go home with us.
The other issue was I ordered my red fish dish with the Creole sauce on the side because I knew it contained wheat and I am allergic. When the server brought the dish out, she said that she hoped it was alright with me because the kitchen forgot to put the sauce on the side. I sent it back, of course, and they fixed it. But the server should never have brought it out until it was correct, and they never offered me any compensation for the lengthy delay in receiving my entree while my wife was enjoying her food.
For these two reasons, I am lowering the overall rating by one star for now. We likely give them another chance since the food is good, but if the service doesn't improve, then one more visit may be all...
Read morePerfect experience. Would definitely give this place a five star. From the time me and my wife stepped through the door the waitress and waiter staff were phenomenal.
Our waitress, Holly was extremely polite and very attentive. She is great at what she does, almost at an ocd level for her customers which was refreshing. Their service goes beyond that though. Kirk, a phenomenal waiter and an obviously great person period. If you don’t get his name at first just look for the waiter with the neon glasses and dredds. Between him and Holly, our conversation between me my wife and them was endless. First time in many years we have enjoyed a dinner this much.
Now for the drinks, rarely never do you find an establishment that charges a good price for a mixed drink that actually is good enough to warrant the cost. I myself know my mixed drinks and these were very enjoyable to drink, plenty of alcohol. So kudos to the bartender.
Now onto the food. My wife had a steak, cooked Medium. Not medium rare or medium well, which seems to be a consistent issue at most places we eat. However, tonight was the first place in over a year that the cook prepared a steak that was cooked perfectly that my wife ate without having to send back. Or worse, not getting it right and her not eating. So this was a very welcome surprise. Myself, I had the famous Beale street ribs. They were cooked to perfection, where you could pull the bones straight out of the meat. The flavor of all the food was on point.
Next is the entertainment. They had a young country singer from Lexington tn. Her voice at her age reminded us of a young Dolly Parton or Leann Rhymes. So that was icing on the cake.
Finally, we were even graced by the manager, who was personally speaking with customers to assure whether their experience was good or bad. Chris is an excellent manager who is down to earth and the crew running this place were very well in sync, which shows signs of great management.
In final, out of many four and five star restaurants I have been to, Redbones here in Jackson definitely should be considered a 5 star visit for any individual, family or group. You...
Read moreMy experience this time around, on 8/17/2021 @ 5:19pm, was everything short of excellence. Drove up for carry out addressed the employee Paige, who brought it out to the car, with a hello and heard nothing back in response. I’m at this point looking at my order and am instantly NOT satisfied. I go inside in order to speak with the manager. I am addressed by another person who rudely says they are managing today. I explained to her that the portion size seemed a lil off to me by a lot. And attempted to explained to her that I had ate here before and it’s a drastic change. She’s at this point scolding me, talking over me in front of customers, saying it’s not and she doesn’t see anything wrong with MY order. I asked her to refund or remake, she did not agree to either without me having to pay another $14+ for another order. I didn’t agree with the whole thing of it. She gave me no option to rectify my almost $40 spent at this restaurant. She is continually saying she’s not refunding or replacing, because she sees nothing wrong. The body language & tone was not professional at all. I asked her for her managers number, she looked through her phone and rattled off a number …731…5724. This number belongs to an older white woman living in middle Tennessee with no dealings at all in Jackson. Not to even mention food was fried in old grease. ❌. So so unprofessional and if this is how you OWNER OF REDBONE want your business ran, no one should NEVER want parts in it! UNPROFESSIONAL AND SHAMEFUL. Refund...
