I wanted to give a 5 but decided on my own overall experience over the years would best result a 4. When I moved back home about 5 years ago. I went to a few different shops I could find. The Nerd was the only one out of all the surrounding areas that I liked. Great shop even more so now than it was then. I liked the idea of it being a family orient store to a certain point. I have 4 kids and my two oldest love playing magic but after what I'm chucking up a bad day for Paul, I stopped coming as much.During the time of this incident I was not getting much time off to do thing with my kids. Magic is one of the things I love and have loved since I was a kid. My kids liked playing cause it was our way to bond and have a fun time on my only day off. I did not like the way you handle things that day, nor the way you talked to me about how I need to leave my two, well behaved kids at home next time. I'm sorry that when their matches were over that they wanted to look around the store and I was still in a match and couldn't be right there beside them. Not to mention the other 4 adults that came with us and was keeping an eye on them if I had to play in the back room. Also during this time. you had an employee that worked there at the time. Who was just plain rude, mouthy, and very disrespectful. All this happened during the same week. I never came back till this individual left your shop. I know I should have maybe come to you in private during this time. To be frank, I didn't want to be banned for expressing my frustrations to you. Now with that all said. I have moved on and to me it's all water under the bridge. I have recently started coming more for pre-releases. In which I bring 4 to 5 new folks for that LGS experience, that w we have been teaching and training magic to in our local area. If Nerdvana stays the course and runs the way it runs now. Paul you'll be in business for a long time. Everything about the shop now screams Fun, Dedications to the customers, and more importantly Family Friendly. Please don't be upset either. You asked for honest and I did just that. Very much love for what you guys are doing...
Read moreI've been going to Nerdvana for 7 years now, and I've always had a wonderful experience. The staff has been consistently friendly and knowledgeable, both on the video games and trading card games I go there to purchase and play. Their selection of consoles, controllers, and games is second to none, and I haven't purchased a used game anywhere else since I first visited.
I primarily visit Nerdvana to play Magic: The Gathering, and over the past 7 years what had already been a fantastic place to play has done nothing but improve. The new card kiosks have made finding cards quick and easy, the event scheduling allows me to play a huge range of formats from week to week, and the new play space has made Nerdvana the most comfortable and attractive store I've ever had the pleasure of playing Friday Night Magic.
I've moved away from the Jackson area now, but I find my way back to Nerdvana at least twice a month to visit my friends and play some games. It's a combination of the friendly, dedicated player-base, atmosphere of the store, and an owner that actively listens to his community and strives to make our experience as amazing as possible. If you haven't been to Nerdvana, stop by for a visit. I'm sure you'll find something to love...
Read moreMy family have shopped and played here since 2011. I’ve never met a business owner more interested in creating a welcoming environment for his customers. I’ve met many parents of kids who play Magic The Gathering card games here. We all agree that this is a safe place for kids.
If you’re not a kid (or aren’t the parent of the gamer), Nerdvana is still a great place to shop and play. The owner, Paul Simer, and his team treat gamers with professionalism and generosity. When an MTG event doesn’t “fire” (have enough players), the works provide a small product (a booster pack) free of charge. A thank you for showing up. Nerdvana has always shown interest in the long term health of the business by taking care of their customers.
Paul Simer and his team have built a community based on mutual respect, safety, competition, and fun. Nerdvana is worth checking out. If you come for Friday Night Magic, find me and say hi. I’m usually the oldest...
