The hype was real. My boyfriend had them serval times before introducing me to this food truck and he swore up and down they were delicious and was genuinely excited for me to try them. Unfortunately on the day we ventured out to get some, this may have been one of those bad days for them.
First, the business hours on Google are wrong. On this particular day the hours listed online didn't match the business hours on the food truck display. On google, it stated they didn't open until 3pm. I won't blame this on the business. Mistakes happen, but we would have been there sooner than later had the information been correct.
The "greeter / register / waiter" gentleman was very pleasant and knowledgeable. After placing our order, we paid and then we returned back to our vehicle with a small device to notify us when our order would be ready. 15 - 20 minutes later the device goes off.
There is only one pick up window so I had to wait behind two customers who were now ordering as I was trying to pick up. Another few minutes later and I finally received the order. A short drive to our place and we were ready to eat.
The fried rice was a little under cooked, had no flavor, and not to mention the rice was cold. For a place named, "Fat Boy Fried Rice", with a menu printed with the words, "Best Fried Rice in Jacksonville", this was very disappointing. I assumed that if anything, the fried rice would be the center piece of every dish. If I was just reviewing the food, this would be a 1 star.
Now on to the Porkchop. Over seasoned. I don't mean too much salt or pepper. I mean, this piece of pork was caked in seasonings. To the point where you'd think, "Okay, there is no flavor to the rice, maybe it will even out if I eat the porkchop and rice together?" Spoiler. It didn't. I finished about half of my order before I gave up.
My boyfriend asked me how I liked it as I'm shoveling the rest of my food over onto his container, I smiled and simply stated that, "I appreciate the experience- but I am not interested in eating there again". He agreed that this time wasn't as good as the other times. For the price of two orders, just the food, no drinks or extras, 27 and change. For the quality and the amount of food received, I will not be coming back here anytime soon. Maybe it will be...
Read moreOk. Just tried them today. I saw my guest had some for lunch and it looked awesome. I was like ooh!!! that looks great. I'm a chef myself. I like to think I have a great diverse palate. I was a little after 7 and they close at 8. Personally I don't like to go to food places an hour before they close it just a thing I have it might sound crazy. Being in the beauty business and food business myself. I know the last hour people minds are being prepared to clean up an go home. Neither here nor there. I ordered and the young lady who took my order vibe was like kinda rude and very short like she was mad. While I was ordering a guy came to get his food she proceed to say sorry for the wait he says huh like he didnt know she was talking to him I stopped so she could repeat she shrugged like whatever didnt say it again to the guy. It was her demeanor. Now usually I wouldn't order because I overstand food to be a frequency an a vibe and all that transmutes when people handle your food, but I so excited to try something new so I gave it a go. I ordered my husband the chicken and I got the short ribs. Being my first time asking questions she was not helpful at all it was like hurry up. Ok. Now my husband like his chicken. My short ribs was salty and tough. Not palatable at all. I was to far gone to go back. Not sure if I would try again! Very...
Read moreWhile visiting a friend in Jacksonville I decided to try this food truck out because a client of mine posted a couple of there pics and said how good it was. I said why not give them a try. So me and my friend did. It was a line so I was like great (that means it should be worth the wait or so I thought) and I seen they had short ribs as an option which was another great for me (I love short ribs)!
So we ordered then waited for about 45 minutes before we were called to pick up. I didn't understand why the wait was so long because if you look there isn't a lot to the plates of food. I don't mind waiting or paying for food just make sure it is great and I'll be back for sure not in this case. My short ribs were super salty and the fried egg was over cooked. They also have a signature sauce (I only knew this because my client told me when we spoke after my experience) which they never mentioned by the way. So I was let down. My friend ordered the chicken and it was good.
My thing is that if the sauce makes the dish better then they should be having it on every dish. Since I didn't have the sauce I would go back to try them again just to try the sauce but hopefully it doesn't take 45 minutes...
