Was there today and they were busy. The Cashier was very nice, The Owner appeared to be expediting orders thru the kitchen service window. Our waitress took our order right away and she appeared to write everything down as we ordered. They took about 15 minutes to prepare our order. My Wife had eggs, bacon and hash browns. My Wife's order was OK and ate right away, she was very hungry as was I. I ordered a simple BLT with a "double" order of Limp Bacon and extra well done hash browns. My sandwich had 4 slices of extra brittle and dry bacon which appeared to be cooked the day before and reheated to order, they got my sandwich and hash browns totally wrong, the male server who delivered my order clearly knew the order was wrong and stated that the potatoes look kind of crispy!!! I guess he was attempting to get away with delivering me the wrong order. I then opened my sandwich and asked about the extra bacon, the same male server stated that there is extra bacon as only 2 slices usually come on the sandwich, (The menu states 4 thick slices), I then asked the owner who said it should come with three slices but did aske the kitchen for clarification, she confirmed that it should be 4 slices and confirmed with the kitchen that I did not have extra bacon on my sandwich. The male server brought me over 2 more slices of brittle over cooked bacon when it should have been 4 more slices which I refused and I also sent back with the moist potatoes. I asked the friendly cashier to forget about the potatoes which coincidentally came out about a minute after I asked her to forget about them and they did appear to be well done and crispy, but as I said I refused the potatoes based on the unfriendly attitude of the insinuative male server. Although the sandwich that was brought to me was wrong I ate it anyway as I was hungry and did not want to wait another 15 minutes for a BLT.???
If you like a 50s style diner then this is the place to go. If you want to get what you ordered without the attitude, go somewhere else! Unless you're the type who does not care about getting what you want!
Just saw their website where they are asking for help to be on Food Networks Triple D Show. I never laughed so hard due to I can't believe they would have the audacity to solicit submissions on their behalf. This place is lucky to be in business. Check out all the Google reviews as there seems to be about 25. The good ones are actually hard to believe unless they are internal from the owners family and friends.
ALSO PLEASE SWING BY URBANSPOON AND CHECK OUT THE REVIEWS ON THEIR WEBSITE ALSO. CAN EVERYBODY WHO DISLIKED IT BE WRONG???????
Happy...
Read moreWhy didn't anyone tell me about this place sooner?! First off, I'm a sucker for diners. I love em. They are just the quintessential dive for good American food. And Johnny Angel's does not disappoint. Quite the opposite: I was pleasantly surprised by how great it was! I love Philly Cheesesteaks and will order one any chance I get. I will judge your fine establishment on the quality of your cheesesteak. JA's has a Philly omelets, a Philly melt and JA's Classic Philly Flat Steak which is what I ordered (no mayo, no peppers, add mushrooms and bacon!) with Cajun fries. Ho. Lee. Cow! This sandwich was amazing. The sirloin steak was perfect and all cooked it had a smokey, meaty sovoriness that I can't swear I've ever experienced before. Grilled and pressed it was a perfect sandwich and big enough to fill me up! HIGHLY recommended! The wife had The King: a Reuben that was incredibly delicious (even for not-likin'-Reubens me!) And she could only finish half the sandwich. Also highly recommended! We made our 'starter' the Biscuit and gravy side. While the Biscuit was good, the sausage gravy was deep, smokey, savory heaven. Give that a shot if you love your tongue! Also, we stapled the chili and immediately understood why it's so highly rated! So good! Topped it off with a (real!) strawberry cheesecake shake and that pretty much did us in. Sooooo good!! The owner, Salem, came over and spoke with us and checked up on us and recommended things and was just all-around cool. And the wait staff were so nice, friendly, quick and fun to be around. Even the busboy was cool and was quick to clear a dirty plate or being us to-go boxes! Listen, do yourself a favor and check out Johnny Angel's it's a great little place to relax and eat and experience. Breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, cheat day, snacky...you'll find something here to make your stomach love...
Read moreThis is literally the first time I have ever reviewed a restaurant and I've had some poor experiences in the past but this should speak for itself....
Walked in and was seated at the counter. It was crowded and we were excited to try this place. My girlfriend and I arrived at 11:40. We order some shakes and gravy fries as the appetizer. The shakes were promptly made they we decent. At 12:10 we received the fries(generic crinkle fires with brown gravy) they were just ok. At this point our appetites were not that high as we both had the taste of spoiled milk in our stomachs. It tasted fine had no smell but its weird that we both have the same problem but who knows. At 12:43 we were finally acknowledge as to where our food was. There was a couple that came in the door right behind us and seated behind us after waiting a few minutes for the table to open up. The gentleman ordered the exact same thing as me and the lady order an omelet(My lady ordered a bacon cheese burger). They had time to get their food, eat, and leave TWENTY MINUTES before we finally got our food TO GO. Who I assumed was the owner or manager finally acknowledged us after about 3 of his staff and he was doing the tables right behind us so he was the closes one. They did nothing to rectify the situation and still charged me the full $35 for a meal I had to take home and microwave. So I won't comment on the $35 microwave dinner I had as I don't think that would be fair. Finally left at 12:50 with our food TO GO!!!! TOTAL TIME 1 HOUR 10 MINUTES WITHOUT EATING IN THE RESTAURANT. Water was only refilled once and sat empty most the time. WE SAT WITHIN 10 FEET OF THE KITCHEN DOOR AND HAD STAFF CONSTANTLY WALKING PAST US...
