Lubi’s hot subs — Restaurant in Jacksonville

A gem for sure. I tried this place about 4 months ago. Fell in love with the Mozarella Lubi all the way as my first one was mind blowing. I’ve been chasing that high for months unfortunately, lol. They are quite hit and miss. The first few times I went, the Lubi’s were perfect, so I thought they were not hit and miss. But I must have gotten lucky and now it’s the other end of my luck as the last few have not hit the mark. The ingredients usually are all cooked well, but them being put together a certain way really matters and that first one I ever had NAILED IT. Today, the ingredients were sadly a miss as well. The beef that is usually smacking every time was not, the sauce was too heavily applied and tasted different. It’s just off now. I may never get that first Lubi high ever again :( but it’s worth a damn standing ovation when you do get it.

P.S. the coleslaw is amazing and it’s absolutely worth getting a dog and slaw. Today they were out of it and I got chili which was meh. Also the employees have always been extremely friendly and a great experience. There’s clearly a focus on that and it shows.

Kinda hoping the owner or something knows he’s got some people doing it REAL RIGHT and to encourage that as some are not quite right. I’m happy to vote if there’s any debate if you’ve got a kitchen conflict on how to do it lol. I'm a Jacksonville native and grew up eating Lubi's. My husband just went and grabbed us a late lunch. Ordered 2 mozzarella Lubi's without sauce for kids, 2 as the come (according to menu and decades of ordering have meat, sauce, sour cream and mozzarella), and 2 stroganoff (again according to menu and decades ordering it is meat, mushroom gravy and sour cream). First, sauce on all of them. Second, every single one of them was filled with jalapenos! Definitely not "how they come", as my husband told them! Even the kids ones! I call to talk to manager and get a young guy named Joseph. I'm trying to talk to him. Explain situation. He interrupts me, screaming that my husband said to add tomatoes, lettuce, mayo, onion and peppers to all of them. Btw if so, he messed them up because were only filled with jalapenos! When I go to respond saying he would NOT add any of that, he continues interrupting and screaming at me. I finally hung up. Absolutely appalling behavior! The sad part is that after a lifetime of enjoying Lubi's, I cannot do so anymore, if this is they're new customer service! Even sadder? That Jacksonville will lose this iconic restaurant because this behavior will shut them down!! Now, I'm going to go back to my youngest and my grandchild to make sure they're okay after puking because of the jalapenos on their sandwiches!! Could have dealt with this over the phone sadly. The food is delicious, but the service is God awful. On January 10th 2021, my friend and I showed up and ordered three Lubis. The employees, young women and a young man, all seemingly in their early twenties, served us our food and shortly after, they left to the rear of the restaurant and proceeded to smoke marijuana in the kitchen. It caused the entire restaurant to smell like weed. It was almost sickening. A short while later, after we finished our food, my friend needed a refill of unsweetened tea, and he proceeded to call out for assistance near the rear of the restaurant near the entrance to the kitchen, but none of the approximately 4 or 5 employees responded. After shouting for assistance for about a minute or two, we gave up. Afterwards, all the employees came out of the kitchen and one met up with about 3 or 4 young people who had showed up. None of them ordered anything and were lead to the back of the restaurant to join the employees. We finally got our unsweetened tea and left. Again, the food was delicious, but the service...
