We have ordered take out from here multiple times and while the food is delicious, there is something wrong every single time we order. The first time we ordered I got an email about 40 min after ordering that our order had been canceled. When I called to ask why, they said that they were out of one of the items we ordered (goat biryani) and couldn’t find the phone number to call and see what we wanted to replace it with, so they just canceled the order. I pointed out that my number was in the notes section of my order and they confirmed that it indeed was. The next time, we ordered many of the items medium spicy like we always do but they were so spicy I couldn’t even taste the food. My dad loves spicy food and even he said this was outrageously spicy. Definitely WAY over medium spice. But the food is usually so great so each time we come back....until tonight. We placed a $136 order on their app (via ChowNow). I placed the order at 4:40pm knowing they open at 5 and asked for the order to be ready for pick up at 6. It was finally ready at 6:25. By the time we got it home it was 6:45 and we immediately noticed 1 main dish was missing so I called to tell them. The man I spoke to said he would make it and have it ready for someone to come get. Ok that’s fine...my mom was just leaving work and agreed to swing by and get it on her way. Then as we opened each container we noticed 1 other main dish missing as well as an order of naan and a side of sauce we had asked for. Assuming they had just missed handing us a bag when it was picked up, I tried to call back again. This time I got a busy signal. I called 6x and each time got the busy signal. My mom finally arrived at 7:15 and gave them the list of missing items. Then the man proceeded to question if they stuff was actually missing. Ummmm yes, we didn’t drive all the way out of our way just for fun!!! She had to call me and have me talk to him before he believed the items were actually missing and said he would go back and prepare them right away. My mom waited in the waiting area from 7:15 till 8:20 before they finally got her the 2 missing main dishes. They didn’t include the missing naan or the sauce. My mom said they offered a lackluster apology and gave her a free dessert. This was on a Wednesday night, not a busy Fri or Sat!! This was just ridiculous! As delicious as their food is, this was just the last mess up!! We will order takeout from 5th Element...
Read moreI have been to several Indian restaurants that offer a buffet and this one was different. In my experience the server seats you, and asks if you want buffet or the menu; then they ask if you want a beverage other than water and maybe even explain the offerings at the buffet. Well, not the case here; you're family! We wandered in the side door and realized the bar section was dark and closed, so we walked to the front. There were 2 servers talking to customers and one was about to seat us when another customer asked a question, so the other server found us a table. He placed down partially filled room temp water glasses, said nothing and left us. We were expecting a waiter to ask us the above assumptions. I wanted a beer and to see the menu to decide whether the menu was better than the buffet. We waited for five minutes but everyone else was at the buffet, so that's what we did. The food was labelled but no ingredients. I liked everything I tried but some things were way too spicy and I like spicy food. There were pakoras, rice, naan, veg biryani, sambar soup, dal, etc. The online menu has dosas and other south Indian specialties but I never saw a menu. No one ever checked on us, asked us if the food was good or anything. I was very tempted to leave through the side door and see if they would have noticed. However, better heads prevailed. It was $9.99 a person which is inexpensive for what it is. I would have ordered a beer and maybe paid for food off the menu had there been any service given. I may give it another try for dinner sometime to see if it...
Read moreI went to Maa Kitchen for lunch today and what a neat experience! It was actually my very first time ever trying Indian food! I was brought by a colleague who wanted to introduce a group of us to his culture and he said this was very authentic Indian food. I'm not an adventurous eater so wasnt too sure what to expect, but the food was great!
We had the lunch buffet which was a great deal! You can get so much food and there were so many different varieties. What I really like is that they have a huge vegetarian selection that is cooked and kept very separate from the non-vegetarian options. For someone like me that doesn't eat much meat, it's hard to find a place that cooks their vegetarian selections separately.
I'm still so new to Indian food that I can't tell you the names of the dishes I tried, but they were all delicious! Some things were a bit too spicy for me, but there were just as many that were perfect for a beginner :)
Before coming, I read some negative reviews about the service but in my opinion the service was excellent! Our drinks were always full, empty plates were quickly taken away and there was always someone there to answer our questions.
My first experience with Indian food & my first experience at Maa Kitchen was great. My colleague said 'Maa' meant mother, so essentially this place translates to 'Mothers Kitchen'. While I don't know the accuracy of that since I don't know the language, I really like the idea of it. I...
