I was excited to see that Popeyes was open at the Avenues mall and there was a bit of a line so I had expected that the food would be good. Unfortunately, the employees here don't really understand or speak English well if at all. I asked to have my combo meal upgraded to large but they didn't hear me (or maybe this isn't an option). The lady was nice though in that she at least gave me a large cup. I ordered spicy chicken tenders with mashed potatoes and I believe they gave me these small (finger-sized) blackened chicken tenders instead. To be fair, I haven't eaten at Popeyes for 5 years so maybe they have shrank their portion sizes.
The prices here were also atrocious. I don't know if this is because they have to charge a higher rate because of the fact this is at the mall and not at a normal store. For a normal combo for 5 finger-sized chicken tenders w/ a reg side and one medium drink, they charge $13.49 + sales tax. If you want more than 5, you have to go with a family meal size which starts at $22+ without any sides and comes with like 9 pieces instead. That's a bit too much to pay for one person IMO.
I also asked to have Mardi Gras mustard as well with my order along with BBQ sauce. The other lady who was handing out the meals failed to give me the Mardi Gras mustard or BBQ sauce like I had requested so I had to go up and ask for ketchup (for my daughter's order of fries) as well. The lady was nice enough and handed me the BBQ sauce but she seemed to have no idea what Mardi Gras mustard was even though I would have thought management would have trained her (apparently not). She eventually told me they don't have it and I pointed to the sign above showing the sauce name and at that point the lady working the register had to get the sauce because this lady couldn't really understand English well enough to understand what I'm saying.
When I opened the container with my mashed potatoes, I was expecting it to contain at least two scoops of potatoes based on the container size and was disheartened to see only one meager scoop that left the container 3/4ths empty.
On the positive side, the employees working here were friendly considering the language barrier and were super nice to upgrade my drink for free without making me have to pay for the upgrade.
Based on my experience with this restaurant with getting the order wrong and small portion sizes (not sure if this is the norm now), I would only give this establishment two starts. I feel the need to also give some positive feedback as well. If the finger-sized tenders are a new company-wide initiative, I would strongly recommend corporate taking a long hard look at bringing back their pre-pandemic portion sizes and stop trying to skimp. Like others have posted, Chick-Fil-A is also at the mall so, like it or not, they are competing with them and if they charge more for smaller portions, they aren't going to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'm very MAD I order food. And waited for like 15 mins or more. I noticed they weren't even busy when they were all standing around one spot. There was no chicken on the shelves at all. By the time they got busy they started making chicken which made it longer for the wait. That pissed me off not just that I complained and told them I wanted my money back and I waited too long. The manager literally went on her phone and walked away from the counter. Dad pissed me off way more than anything. I walked back where my fiance was sitting. Told him about what happened. He went to the counter and told them. They got very snappy at us and were really rude and we said " we are not coming back here ever again." And then they said "good don't come back". Which was extremely rude because you don't...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDo not order through the Popeyes app from this location. I placed my order at 7:00pm which is one full hour before the mall closes and when I got there all they could tell me was that they donāt have any chicken. The manager had to converse with me using Google translate. This is obviously a franchise owned by someone Hispanic because everyone there is Hispanic and all speak broken English while keeping it in the family. Iām all for anyone being able to have the American dream of owning their own business, but you need to be able to communicate in English here in America. I will never order from this location again. Iām sure this isnāt the experience that Popeyes wants for their customer base, but there has to be consequences for a poor franchisee...
