After a long anticipated wait. We were disappointed. After living up North for 45+ years and knowing what good pizza should be...this was not it. To make it worse the cannolis were soggy and frozen. Who sells pre-made frozen cannolis????
We ordered a medium Alfredo pizza with no olives, a 12 inch cauliflower pizza with pepperoni, 5 mild wings, 5 bbq boneless/nuggets, drinks and 2 orders of cannolis.
The Alfredo pizza had a good taste, but wasn't hot enough. The cauliflower pizza wasn't any better than an $8 frozen one from the grocery store. Both wings were rubbery andtasteless. The drinks were room temperature, out of the cooler. They have no cups or ice. Both pizzas came to us uncut and we had to wait several minutes for plates, and a plastic pizza cutter. The most disappointing item were the cannolis. I even asked if they were made fresh and filled to order. Only to be told, yes and it will take about 15 minutes. What they meant to say it will take about 15 minutes to thawl out. They were the worse cannolis ever. Cold, soggy, plain filling with no chocolate chips...just frozen pasty filling and chewy shell. Tony D's has been our go to and will remain our favorite spot for great pizza, wonderful staff and, not the best but...
Read moreI ate a pizza today. It's pizza. I had a Dave's Meat Market and it was a nice big pizza with lots of toppings, they didn't waste any space. It had cheese and meat and sauce and crust. The service at the shop was good, and the interior is very clean and has personality. It's nice that the pizza is not so greasy that it's dripping down my arm like some other pizza places that think being greasy makes it "soul food" or something.
And the pizza, is alright. It's perfectly serviceable, nothing special. Yeah I ate it and I'm not hungry any more, and it was relatively pleasant. I technically got what I paid for. But the food itself wasn't really any more enjoyable or flavorable than something I could get afew dollars cheaper at a major chain a mile away. The best pizzas I've ever had were local places that focused their energy on supercharging their own unique flavor, personality that a major chain can't reproduce. I have yet to find a flavor equivalent to VIA313 in Austin TX. Just saying "it's Old-Fashioned, it's New York" isn't really enough for me, because Pizza Hut sells the exact same flavor for 10$ cheaper. The only impression I was left with by Salvatore's, is that it's pizza. I ate a...
Read moreI'm a Queens NY girl, who once worked in a mom & pop pizza place in Lake Carmel NY. Did everything there including making the pizza. Kneaded my share of dough & washed a lot of dishes too. So I'm always on the lookout for good NY style pizza here in Jax. Ordered $10 lunch combo. I'd give it a 9 out of 10. Flavorful, just the right amount of sauce, cheese, pepperoni. Some oil, on top but not a lot, which is fine for me. The crust was just a bit too thick. I'd stop back if I was in the area, it's a bit of a drive for me. But I'm not disappointed at all. Btw, the big slice lunch pizza is your choice of what is already made to sell as slices. So it's reheated which is why the crust looks over cooked. If you live in the area stop by &see what you think. Lovely Scottish lady behind the counter. Great...
