Suggestions: Pot Sticker Appetizer and Pad Thai or Red Curry Price: Entrees are $13-$15 Pros: I really like the flavors and Spiciness of the food, cool atmosphere, the pot stickers are crazy good, the staff is very friendly Cons: "Protocol" here is a bit odd (they just point at your table to seat you, they can sometimes be out of the seasonal items, not the most comfortable seats.
Thoughts: We have several good Thai restaurants around Jacksonville but I personally like Tuptim the best, and for me this all comes down to taste. The price of most Thai places in Jacksonville seems about the same, and the portions are all pretty close to one another. The thing that sets Tuptim apart from the others is their robust flavors.
It is a little bit odd the first time you go in, there isn’t a host or a greater, you just kind of walk in. They someone will notice you, pretty quickly, and direct you to a table and bring you some menus. There isn’t a ton of “customer service” here; it isn’t that they are rude, in fact they are all quite friendly (you’ll hear “Thank you” so much), they just don’t have the same “type” of service here that you get at most restaurants.
If you’re willing to look past the absence of a “front desk” you will find some of the best Thai food in Jacksonville. Every time we go we got the pot stickers and they are just out of this world, they are pork pot stickers but the coconut chili past concoction they come with is SOOOO GOOD! I would drink this stuff it that wasn’t weird. From there my wife and I typically get their Pad Thai and Red curry. The Pad Thai has just the right amount of peanuts and lime to it, and the curry is perfect. It has a decent amount of heat without drowning out the other flavors. Its really hard to be to describe flavors I don’t cook with so I’ll just leave it at amazing. I’ve had several of their curry dishes and they are all just so freakin good.
Hands down this is my go-to place for Thai in Jacksonville and I would highly recommend giving it a try if you like Thai food…and definitely try the...
Read moreLet me admit one thing: I have never been to a bad Thai restaurant. From my experience, there are only 2 types of Thai restaurants - the amazing, write-about-it-in-your-diary kind, or every other Thai place. The majority fit in the second category. However, that isn't a bad thing, because in my opinion you can rarely go wrong.
Tuptim Thai is one of these second category restaurants. Good but not fantastic. It really wants to be better than it is, judging but the upscale decor, but just doesn't achieve it.
My wife and I went here for a date night and the ambiance was great and the food was good but we never found anything that really reached in my happy place and tickled me (I had to wait until after dinner for that). We ordered 2 types of curry, panang and green, as well as the appetizer sampler. The food portions were just right but the prices were quite high considering it wasn't any better than any of the other cheap Thai places that offer similar cuisine for half the price.
We definitely enjoyed our evening and I think the setting helped make the night more romantic but if you're just wanting good Thai food, I think you'll be just as satisfied with any other...

We walked in as a party of two, only to be greeted by indifference. The host didn’t bother with a proper greeting, just bluntly asked if we needed a table for two. We informed them we were ordering takeout and sat at the bar. The person who acted as both the host and waiter didn’t even have the decency to approach us, introduce herself, or treat us with basic respect. Instead, she stayed 30 feet away on the other side of the bar, shouting dismissively, “What do you want?”
I asked a simple question about the texture of the fried rice—whether it was moist or dry—trying to determine what else to order. Her response? Arrogantly muttering, “It’s fried rice, hmm.” Completely dismissive and unhelpful.
After we placed our order, we waited 20 minutes for the food. In that time, she never once checked on us, offered us water, or acknowledged our presence. The lack of professionalism and basic courtesy was appalling.
This place is an absolute disaster when it comes to service. If you value respect, dignity, and proper hospitality, I strongly advise you to take your business elsewhere. I know I won’t be...
