I made the decision to drive across the country (Seattle, WA to New London, CT) for good reasons but as someone who is deathly allergic to dairy, eating while traveling tends to be hazardous to my health so by the time I made it to Wisconsin, I needed food. I assumed I would not be able to get anything until Chicago (maybe because it was already late) but then I found Toppers and ordered a vegan BBQ.
While I opted for curb side because I was not sure how easy it would be to get in and out with my puppy but when I saw it was not busy and the text number to let them know I was there was not recognizing my number, I just went in. Liahna (did not get the spelling) was the primary (only) worker there and really was a breath of fresh air after driving through three states that seem to hate any diversity and/or being a decent nice human being. Liahna offered help with the texting (which honestly who knows if I will ever be back - but also the customer service was so awesome I had to leave a nice review which says something).
Liahna deserves a raise, seriously!! Great tasting pizza. Really above and beyond customer service. There was an obvious care for human beings in general and a pride in the work. So while people often disregard customer service/ restaurant staff, I think they are saints. In this moment where I was hangry and basically had lost faith in human beings - there was a friendly nice person with a warm comforting pizza who was also willing to explain tolls to a West Coaster. That pizza made it almost all the way the NY state and was still delicious! It helped me remember there are still good people (and good vegan pizza) in the world while road raged truckers seemed bent on killing me.
Good people and good pizza are under appreciated and under valued. So when you need some of that warm comfort of a pizza, do not forget to tip heavily so those wonderful people can pay their rent. It is not really necessary for them to be warm in order to do their job but it sure is nice...
Read moreWas excited to try Topper's for the first time as I had gone to the Watertown one to get pizzas for our football teams during an away game, & they were amazing to work with & the pizza smelled so good!
Went to Janesville Topper's, put in our order: Meat Topper large add pineapple & roasted garlic Garlic herb crust Single order of 3 cheese Topper's sticks = amlost $40
Had a longer wait as we understood they looked short staffed. Finally got our food, took it home.....no meat & no garlic herb crust, just pineapple & roasted garlic with a plain crust.
When we realized our pizza was incorrect, I called the number provided on the website thinking it was the Janesville store, but it was actually some answering service in India who told me the same thing the store employees told me when I finally got transferred to the actual store. What a waste of time & money for the company, makes no sense. They offered to make me a new pizza, but we weren't going to come back into town, so they did offer a full refund which we are waiting to see if it went through.
The staff was nice & the reason for the 2 stars, but that is the only positive I have to say about this place. The manager or owner may want to explain to your staff why you have the gloves on top of the pizza making station, or that washing their hands before making pizzas & after touching all the computers & scratching their heads is important. As a result of all of this we will never return to Topper's or reccomend the...
Read moreFor the past few years, whenever we are in town we order from Toppers, which is 1-3 times a year. We are exhausted from hours of driving and getting settled into our hotel so we order delivery. The last few times I tried to order in the app, it said card only, no cash. Except when you put your card number in it won’t accept any of them and displays an error message. Then I have to call to place the order and I get a call center where everyone has thick Indian accents. This time I could not really understand the man taking my order and I could tell he was annoyed with me. Why can’t I just call the restaurant directly anymore? The delivery people always delivered to my hotel room in the past too. This time our driver texted me and said he was “here”. Okay. Except he didn’t come to the door so my husband went to the lobby thinking he was there. No delivery person in sight. He had to go out to the parking lot to find him. That is unacceptable. I have a disabled child so thankfully my husband was with me to go out and find our dinner in the parking lot when I sent a 20% tip too. The food was hot and the order was correct so I’ll give you that. There wasn’t much sauce on the pizza and the marinara sauce for the garlic knots had a weird taste. It was just okay. I think we might be done with Toppers which is disappointing because it was a tradition for us that we looked forward to every time we...
