WILL NEVER GO BACK OR RECOMMEND TO MY WORST ENEMIES
I have been here twice, both times a bad experience. I said I wouldn't go back after the first bad one but my new partner insisted.
First time: Road down with some buddies for beer and wings. They sent out two plates of wings that were supposed to be two seperate flavors and they didn't know which ones were which, no big deal. Come to find out they were neither of the flavors we ordered. They told us we could eat them, and sent us out the correct ones, but would not comp the wrong order. (August 22)
Second Time (Oct 14 2023 - 4PM Saturday, light crowd, Maybe 10% capacity):Server was lovely, was literally in the back making our appetizers for us because she saw the wait from the kitchen was projected to be 25 minutes. She did great. We ordered our entree's and while we were waiting a table of 4 sat behind us in the row of booths. The manager (young lady) was standing about 10 feet away and facing towards us while gossiping with a male waiter for about 5 minutes. We could hear the whole conversation, it was not work related and we were already uneasy because of our waitresses uneasiness about appetizer times and waitresses walking around with the look of "what the hell is going on" on their face. Another 5 minutes go by after their conversation and the table next to us was never greated or given drinks so they all stood up and walked out. A lot of staff were throwing out excuses and trying to find someone to blame, it was the managers fault for not being tentative to her wait staff or the restraunt patrons. She did not appear to care about the early dinner crowd.
We get our food. I ordered a the ahi tuna which looked fantastic in the picture on the menu. Had a sear on it and was glazed. When it showed up it was not seared, and not glazed (I took pictures). I tried a piece and it was dry and cold. I asked for them to take it back and said i would eat when I got home and the server said they had wings hot and ready I could have whatever flavor I wanted and they would not charge us for either. I opted for this and the wings were fantastic. My partner and her 7 year old son got cheeseburgers and I knew something was up when they did not ask her how she wanted the beef patty to be cooked. Obviously they were frozen patties. When it came out it was a dry brick with no flavor and the French fries were definitely not deep fried fresh. Frozen and re-heated in a microwave 100%. (If not then their kitchen is severely lacking management.) No crunch, the seasoning was seperated from the potato and falling off like it would in a freezer bag. Her sons kids burger and home-made potato chips was fine.
Anywho, I've been swapping out puke pots and tending to my girlfriend since 4am. She is very sick, we assume mild food poisoning from Big Whiskeys in Jefferson City, MO which is the only food we ate after...
Read moreI will start by saying that the atmosphere and decor is amazing, however that is the only thing amazing about this establishment. We ate this evening, 8 top. Three children and five adults. Our order ranged from kids meals, appetizers and entree’s, we didn’t give dessert a chance. Menus were at the tables, there was a wait for our table to be prepared which is expected. Our children waited with no kids menus wile the adults looked. Our server came to our table maybe 5 times the entire evening. We received drinks with no straws (kids drinks had lids which required straws). I asked my server for straws after she set our drinks and she walked away. When she came back 5 mins later while our children had no straws with the rest of the tables alcoholic beverages. The beer specials were great! The mixed drinks however looked aesthetically pleasing, for $9 a piece they should. However the drinks were awful, they were not made with shelf liquor at all which wasn’t what was advertised. The food took about 50 minutes which I felt was a bit ridiculous seeing as we ordered sandwiches. The server never once let us know how far along our order was, or apologized for our wait. We obviously had antsy children, which at 5pm is expected. The food. The food can be easily be described as basic bland food that can be obtained at any local diner for half the price. However the price point was decent (10-14$) for a burger and fries. The spaghetti kids meal was awful, I ended up setting it aside and sharing my meal with my daughter. When meals are set aside I feel as if maybe someone should ask about it. My child’s breadstick was burnt. Apparently nobody in the kitchen staff is familiar with feeding picky kids. Our group had about a $200 total bill, never did a manager come by our table. We paid, we tipped generously, we left, we won’t be back. My opinion: this kitchen staff need much more training and discipline. These servers need to be screened and interviewed more carefully. Happy servers make happy money and create happy customers. If my food was terrible but service is phenomenal I’d return to that establishment but like I said, that’s my opinion. Management, well the was none. Not once was I able to distinguish who was in charge an maybe that is the issue, it was a free for all. Management has definite place in this setting, a newly established restaurant needs feedback which I don’t think this place cates about. Example there’s two of the same businesses on yelp. Whoever owns this, I’m here to tell you this business will fail epically in the next two years unless drastic...
Read moreMy experience at this new Big Whiskey location was an interesting one. I am new to the Big Whiskey family and frankly I hope they open one in the Kansas City area soon. The food was great, and the welcome was friendly. Our particular staff member for the day must have a had a lot on her plate. She was helpful and served us well. At times it was hard to find her, but that could have been because the location was busy on this Saturday afternoon. When we did get to talk to her I felt like maybe she just needed a hug. Big Whiskey lists Angry Orchard as having it on Tap. Now this newer location just maybe had run out or had spent more time on making sure they had the beers and whiskey available first, I’m really not sure. I started with asking our server if they carried any Ciders, gave Angry Orchard as an example, and was abruptly informed they don’t carry Ciders. I then went over the drink menu and found that Angry Orchard was listed. So, I gently asked her again once she came back thinking, maybe she’s new and not many folks ask for Angry Orchard. I was informed that I wasn’t looking at the most updated list of what they had available. I was then presented with a clipboard of available drinks. Or so I thought. The top of page 2 was listed……. You guessed it…………. Angry Orchard. I am not much of a straight up beer drinker, so I usually opt for Ciders. So, I dared to ask again because she said this was the most updated list. Clearly to no avail. I was told again after 3 glances over to the bar area that they did not have Angry Orchard. Ironically, this drink would have been perfect for her, its literally in the name. I finally settled on the Lakeside Cherry Limeade. It was delicious. For lunch I had the Whiskey’s Club. The sandwich was delicious and freshly made. Their fries are that perfect combination of crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Like a double fry. I wasn’t feeling so much outside the box by this time, so I went with something pretty easy. I hope to get back to this location soon to try some of their other signature dishes. My friends who live in the area love this place. It is a gem. The location is in one of those older buildings with the uneven creaky wooden floors and the patio area for outside dining is a big area. Beautiful. Parking is great and just a short walk up the steps in the back to the patio and...
