If you’re looking for a boba shop that feels less like a chain and more like a home, Happy Bobas on Irving Park is the spot.

I’ve known Kelly, one of the owners, since our UIC college days nearly 20 years ago, and it’s been inspiring to see her and her husband, Sonny, bring their vision to life. While many boba shops lean on heavy sugar, Happy Bobas takes a different approach—crafting drinks that let the actual flavors of fruit and tea shine through. My personal favorites include the Lychee Green Tea with Butterfly Pea Tea, the Sparkling Lemon Mojito, and the Matcha Milk Tea. Each drink has a refreshing balance, and even the tapioca pearls and jellies are just right—satisfying without being overly sweet.

The menu is broad, offering milk teas, fruit teas, smoothies, desserts, and even ice cream. At first it might feel like a lot to choose from, but Sonny and Kelly are always there with friendly recommendations to guide you toward something you’ll love. Their warmth is a big part of what makes this place special—you’re greeted not just with a smile, but with genuine conversation that makes you feel welcome.

The shop itself is colorful and fun. Neon zodiac signs brighten the walls, plants bring a cozy touch, and there’s a playful energy that sets the tone as soon as you walk in. It’s the kind of environment where you might see family and friends stopping by, which adds to the homely, community vibe.

On top of that, they run a rewards program (buy 10 drinks, get 1 free) and often host fun promotions and events. Be sure to follow them on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook to keep up.

Whether you’re a boba regular or brand new, you’ll walk away with a drink you’ll crave again and an experience that...

If you’re even remotely into boba, stop what you’re doing and head to this gem of a spot

The second you walk in, you’re greeted with vibes. The music? Immaculate. A mix of chill indie, upbeat K-pop, and lo-fi that makes you want to sit, sip, and stay a while. It’s the kind of playlist that feels handpicked, like someone actually cares. Trust me, that theme runs deep here.

Because the best part? The family who runs it. You’re not just another customer, but you’re treated like part of the family. They greet you with genuine smiles, and you can feel the love and hustle in every cup.

I got the brown sugar milk tea with boba, and wow. The boba? Perfectly chewy. The drink? Balanced, rich, and not overly sweet. Everything tasted fresh, not premade or watered down like other places. My brother had the classic taro milk tea, and I’m not saying I considered stealing it… but I considered it.

There’s something really special happening here. Between the flavor, the warmth, and the vibe, this place isn’t just selling drinks. It's...

I recently visited Happy Bobas, and it was a delightful experience!

Atmosphere: The shop has a cheerful and vibrant atmosphere, with colorful decor and comfy seating. It’s a great spot to relax or catch up with friends.

Menu Variety: Happy Bobas boasts an impressive menu, featuring a wide range of drinks, including classic milk teas, fruity blends, and specialty drinks. They also offer a good selection of toppings, including different types of boba, jellies, and puddings.

Taste: We tried their seasonal pumpkin spice boba and mango green tea with popping boba, and it was refreshing and flavorful. The boba was perfectly cooked, with a nice chewy texture, and the drink was not overly sweet—just right!

Service: The staff was friendly and attentive, taking the time to recommend options and ensuring my order was made to perfection.

Overall Experience: My visit to Happy Bobas was a treat. With its inviting atmosphere, delicious drinks, and excellent service, I can’t wait to go back. Highly recommend for any...

I came here with my friend to get some boba tea because I owed him a treat, and wow! I have only had boba tea a handful of times in my life, but this place blew me away. The tea was tasty and fruity, and the boba popped with ease and added even more fruitiness to the drink. This cafe is family-owned. It's cute with lots of seating/tables and had a lot of decorations to keep your eyes peeled for. They really care about their customers, and not just when they serve you! The owner knew my friend personally since he frequents sometimes, and that warmed my heart knowing that and it makes me want to visit more, so I will definitely be back! And for the photo- yes, the cup may be empty, but it was empty for a reason. Wish I took a picture of how tasty it looked, but take my word for it- it was such a refreshing drink for a warm August day.
