Food is extraordinary - fine-dining quality Asian cuisine made with exceeding care and finesse in relaxed surroundings. You're missing out if you don't get the Chicken Ginger Soup (and frankly their Chilli) - both of which take all day to prepare.
I regularly get the Cambodian Fried Chicken, Siu Yuk, Braised Pork, Ngau Nam, Moo Ping, Pepper & Egg, Korean Steak, Korean Spicy Pork - all great, and honestly you'll want to try all of them. Their Cobb Salad is made with real care (like everything else).
My wife an I typically come here and get a "tasting menu" of sandwiches, Ethan (the owner) helps us course things by bringing them out whenever they're ready and piping hot. We have never not had a fantastic experience here, and it feels like the food simply gets better and better each time.
Ethan constantly brings in new specials, mentioning he's working on shrimp and chilli crab specials in future.
BYOB - though in my opinion, you need to bring wines that are worthy to pair with such excellent food - preferably wines that can handle spice.
For all this quality, you should be patient - awesomeness takes time. Apologies if you're there while we're there, there's only one Ethan. So he may tell you that you won't be able to order for say 10+ minutes while he finishes getting out our giant order :P - rest assured, it is...
Read moreIf you, like me, are usually indifferent to service-related issues as long as the food is good, feel free to skip this review. TLDR: if you are going there to place an order, they may tell you that they’re just too busy
After a lengthy trek on my bike to try this place, I got there an hour before the posted closing time. As I walked in, I was greeted with “We’re booked, it’ll be a 45-minute wait.” For a second, I thought about leaving. But I am not easily deterred, so I decided to wait. When I started to ask a question, I was cut off with “I’m sorry, we’re booked. We’re not taking any more orders.” Now, given that I had just been told the wait was 45 minutes, I was confused to say the least. I (politely, I ‘d like to think) started to ask whether the 45-minute wait time still stood, but was cut off again with the same line. With that, I said thanks and left.
I get that there’s a risk of not getting service if you show up at the last possible minute-that’s why I showed up an hour before closing. But if your practice is to stop taking orders at arbitrary times, you should at least give your customers a warning that you don’t always stick to your hours.
Maybe the food is great, maybe it isn’t. I won’t be going out there again...
Read moreWent for the family dinner. It's a very intimate space as soon as you walk in. Ethan and staff are so friendly and accommodating. We were greeted with some crunchy thin beef jerky and a spicy sauce. Salmon rillete and fresh spring veggies, followed by an 18 hour crunch potato with tartare and roe (my favorite large bite) a nice scallop akin to me like an aguachile. A really earthy curry soup with fresh hers and sans coconut milk. Then came the fried chicken and sides. The fried chicken was every by as good as advertised with the nice flavor and my kee go to fried chicken sauce (lime and fresh black pepper). A nicely fried fresh fish followed by a huge ribeye. Closed off with a dulce de leche ice cream. It's been my meal of the year as of June 23. I have told everyone to try to secure the very difficult reservation. Well...
