We have visited the location on the southside on Cicero. When we saw that one opened a half of a mile from us we were so excited. Went for dinner today and was sadly disappointed. We ordered 2 machete juniors (one steak, one rajas) and a 3 taco dinner (2 steak asada and 1 chicken asada)
2 stars for the very good rice and beans, rajas and the cookies we were so fond of from the other location. 0 stars for the steak! It was literally charred hard pieces of meat that was basically like a piece of charcoal. Hard, completely burnt and completely in-edible. I had to remove half of the meat because it was unbelievable. Had we eaten in the restaurant, I would have returned it. Which brings me to the next issue. We made the mistake of ordering to go. They have to wrap the machetes in a way where you can't really access them to put condiments on. They did give you a baggie of lettuce, sour cream and salsas in the bag. We really wanted the onions and cilantro too, that they have out for the people who choose to eat in,have available to dress up their quesadilla.
Also the tacos were COMPLETELY plain. No onions and cilantro or any toppings allocated for them in the take out bag, and we weren't asked if we wanted any toppings. They were dry and charred. We didn't even eat them. The other location is better when it came to how the meat was cooked. It was also very slow. The lady who was cooking, was by herself and it looked like she put precooked meat from a bag in the fridge on the grill to "warm", which would explain the inedible pieces of chared meat that was served. It was very very very over done.
It might have been a fluke, but if your going to come in town with a great concept and you serve charcoal bites of meat, I can't see...
Read moreThis is definitely a place I would bring someone to show someone the food in Albany park. You can tell the tortillas are handmade custom for the giant tacos. The steak is really good. They have a nice condiment bar with fresh salsas, veggies etc. I'm a huge fan of the spicy one.
That being said, DON'T ORDER THIS TO-GO. They pre-package the condiments on the the side. They consisted of iceberg lettuce, white onions, salsa, and packaged sour cream. Sorry but have the reason why I order this is for the amazing fresh toppings. I was shooed away when I tried to load my toppings on my to-go order. They absolutely need to change this. I didn't want to argue with them since I don't speak...
Read moreIt is run of the mill average flavor. For me to want to go back to a Mexican restaurant, it has to be the bomb 💣, and bursting with flavor. They all have the capacity to make it absolutely savory and 🔥 fire, but for some reason, they seem to want to have mediocre flavor. I don't understand why 95% of Mexican restaurants want to be just "meh". The only thing that I love about here is that so far, none of the employees seem to use Gain detergent (itchy) or Gain scent beads in their wash (searing pain in the eyes and shoulders). I hope they keep it that way, and hope the food can be made savory and addictive...
