I guess I've got a love-hate relationship with Union Restaurant & GameYard. We've visited a couple of times and it's such a terrific and unique concept, I want to love it. The food quality and service experience are so poor, I want to hate it. Keep reading...
If you're the parents of kids in the 8-to-12-year-old range, this place is your "mecca". It's basically a version of Chuck-E-Cheese for "tweens" and their young adult parents. If you fit into this demographic, I think you'll love this place and be very willing to overlook the bar food quality and poor service. Just sip on a few drinks, nosh an app or two, and let the kids run wild for a couple hours. It's absolute mayhem, lol! Good times...
If you don't fit into the demographic described above, I suggest you steer clear of Union during weekends. I think things are a little more "in-control" during the work week. But you still need to contend with the food quality and service challenges. Keep reading...
Here's a wacky experience we had last night: I ordered a wedge salad with balsamic vinegar dressing. When the food runner delivered our food, my wedge salad contained thousand island dressing, not balsamic vinegar. I informed the food runner it was the wrong dressing and he removed it from the table, only to return moments later informing me that, "This IS balsamic.", dropping off the salad and walking away. After a few minutes, I got the food runner's attention and told him once again that it was the wrong dressing, and he reluctantly took it away for the 2nd time. Our server returned to our table a few minutes later and asked, "What's the problem with the salad?" I eventually received the wedge salad I ordered with balsamic vinegar but I kinda suspected my wedges were just rinsed-off and balsamic re-applied and the original salad re-assembled. Let's just say at this point, I would've dumpster-dived I was so hungry, lol! Keep reading...
The check-out procedure is also kinda weird. A paper copy of your meal order isn't brought to the table. Our server just brought the mobile credit card reader over to the table and asked if "we were ready to go". The first time I saw our food and drink total was when the credit card reader was handed to me to include a tip and sign. I didn't think much of it until I got home and checked the receipt that was texted to my phone. To my surprise, there were $21.00 of apps and drinks on our bill that we never ordered! Keep reading...
I brought the bill back to Union the next day, Sunday morning, shortly after they opened and was able to speak to a very polite and professional Manager. Before I could ask, he volunteered to issue me a $21.00 refund via a credit to my card. He apologized for the oversight and said "...can't wait to see you return." Probably won't return until my 10-month-old granddaughter reaches the age of eight, though - lol!
If you visit Union Restaurant & GameYard, just be sure to have the proper expectations - and I hope you and your party enjoy!
That's all. No...
Read morewent early dinner during the week, cool vibe, clean and modern, really great experience, hostess seated us and i tried alcohol beverage popsicle lemonade, which was excellent. yummy. i wanted two more. lol. server was attractive and professional and knew her menu and products. i was impressed. i ordered monte cristo which is basically melted ham sandwich with powered sugar and homemade jelly, sandwich didn’t appear that big although was excellent in quality and taste. the best one i have ever eaten. enjoyable. for my side i opted for sweet potato fries which was a huge amount. they were fresh and very good. after enjoying a good meal we went out to the game yard. it seems appealing for small groups. update: went for second time. old house smell grossed me out. hostess stand inside old house. server different although chipper, helpful and professional. five star for server. i opted for alcohol drink popsicle lemonade, which the bartender made it wrong. it is an early Friday evening. maybe 1/4 full of patrons. a lot of staff lingering about. my drink should not have been wrong! we tried the pretzel for our appetizer, which is enough for four people to share and way more than enough for two. fresh and good. bald headed boss man lingering about. some patrons in a small room in the old house and some in bar area and a few outside enjoying the outdoor area. we Sat in the bar area, which looks like a open garage, during both visits. service on point both times too. food was all right tonight. drink over-priced. my chicken meat started tasting like the smell of the old house. I had my fill of this place, i don’t see the attraction and appeal. Doubtful of my return anytime soon. update: from four to three star. waited in small line for table. got to host stand. plenty of tables. host said over an hour wait. we left. returned: walk in with no reservation, ordered spiked lemonade with popsicle, popsicle was just frozen clear ice, not worth $8, our server was the bartender, he was friendly and laid back, which fit for the atmosphere. i don’t care for the over priced food, sat inside, hot day, air didn’t seem on inside, a drunk couple making out and drinking and ordering more drinks and no one cut them off. i don’t care for the food or drink or the atmosphere. down...
Read moreI’ll try to be nice during this review but our overall impression was not very great. I don’t think I can trust this restaurant again. This was a neat place that my wife and I stumbled upon while exploring Jeff the day before. They told us it would take about an hour without reservations and we understood. So we made reservations for the next day with some friends. They were pretty busy when we arrived but not every table was full. Our server approached within a few minutes of us being at the table.Following the initial introduction from our server, it did take quite a while for him to come back around to our table to take drink and food orders (not a huge deal, they were busy). But, after the first round of drinks were brought to the table we didn’t see our server for quite a while. We had to ask other servers for water and plates multiple times after our appetizer had arrived. The plates that were brought to us still had crumbs on them (so we didn’t use them). When our food arrived to the table was when the biggest issue came. The food looked and smelled amazing but upon looking at my tater tots, there was a hair baked into 2 of them. Grossed out, I sent it back. The gentleman apologized and brought fresh food 5-10 minutes later. Our server finally came back with our second round of drinks and fresh plates from earlier, another server brought us four fresh waters. My wife started to drink one and found a purple hair in the cup. Our friends also found another hair in their water cup. 3 different HAIRS in 1 dining experience?! The plates were also still dirty! The server came back apologetic and exhausted. He explained that he had three tables on the other side of the restaurant and we were his only table here. We understood but this was a terrible first impression. Not only did we find 3 hairs in our food/drinks, we had 2 sets of dirty appetizer plates given to us and we felt alone at the table. Management never came out to say anything to us but did comp the food. We were appreciative but the damage had been done.
I don’t think I can ever trust...
