Food: As far as Mexican food goes, everyone is really on point when they say this place has the most authentic Mexican food around. I’ve been to some uppity ups in Edgewater and Fort Lee and the quality does not even compare. It’s as if they’re making their ingredients from scratch in the kitchen. I don’t know how but the food was awesome.
What I had: when you sit down they automatically bring you chips and salsa. The chips are very nicely salted not too overwhelming and the salsa has just the right amount of spice to tingle your tongue but not burn. I had the 3 chicken flautas and they were very well cooked. The chicken was very good and they weren’t over fried it was the best combo of crunchy and soft where it didn’t fall apart. The queso fresco was abundant and delicious, rice was not too dry but not too oily. Re fried beans were very good too.
Atmosphere: very quaint but nicely decorated. You can definitely have a nice romantic dinner or lunch here because of all the amber and rose hues. The lighting creates a very comfortable atmosphere and they have a huge television where they play whatever you’d like that’s on cablevision(or fios I forget which). Most of the tables are 4 person tables but they can join them if you have a bigger party obviously. The furnishing is not top quality but it’s not horrible either.
Amenities: no parking but this is JC so if you were expecting it then you weren’t ready to dine in JC. There’s no WiFi. So if your job is a field type job and you’re in the area you’ll need your own hotspot to do work here but they’re very accommodating about it and even moved me so I could plug in my laptop. They tried to give me their personal WiFi but my computer wouldn’t pick up the router. They were also super great with this so give it a try.
The negative reviews: I don’t live around here so I can’t speak to their delivery or take out. The lady who complained about the bathroom... maybe it was a busy weekend night and their staff was busy with the actual food? I used the ladies room and there was just nothing wrong with it. It was very clean plenty of toilet paper, nothing fancy but it’s a bathroom so that’s not it’s purpose. Perks of the bathroom is they have actual hot water in the sink, not even all the Starbucks I’ve been too have hot water. Their water pressure is definitely low because the toilet goes down very slow but it goes down. This is probably due to the fact that the location of the bathroom was most likely added into the building later and wasn’t made for the bathrooms to be back there. Any ways, there was nothing wrong with the bathroom idk what she was taking about.
Overall really great experience, more than friendly staff, awesome food, great service, and a great lunch. I give them 5 stars for being a family owned business that adds quality and authenticity to its...
Read moreMy husband always requests a Mexican feast for his birthday and Los Tres Chilitos delivered (literally and figuratively). We ordered on a Wednesday at a weird time, for a late lunch/early dinner at around 4. We had leftovers and then some, although the leftovers were definitely not great the next day, so I wouldn't recommend over ordering like we did. Here is everything we ate:
Milanesa Pollo Torta - honestly, this one is a classic. You can't go wrong with a torta, especially one with breaded chicken
Pancita (tripe soup served with a side of rice and tortillas) - I've never had Mexican tripe soup before so I was intrigued, and also was in the mood for soup. This was a little too rich for my taste. Squeezing some lime into it helped a bit though
Combo #6 (grilled skirt steak with avocado salad, cactus, baby onions, and a flauta) - the steak looks like it has the potential to be dry and chewy but luckily, it was the complete opposite. They also give a good portion size for $20
Mole Tamale (shredded chicken breast in mole sauce) - this was not bad. I think it may have been one of only a handful of times I've eaten a tamale. Not something I'd usually order
Pastor Tlayudas (large crispy tortilla, topped with your meat of choice, refried beans, lettuce, avocado, pico, and cheese) - I have never had one of these before nor have I even heard of it when I saw it on the menu. Thank you LTC for bringing this into our lives. This was the star of the show. It was also a lot bigger than we expected. It's pretty much the size of a large pizza and is loaded with toppings. Would definitely order this again but this is one of those things you need to finish because it doesn't taste the best the next day. I would probably get something other than al pastor though, because it was a bit dry.
Definitely want to check this place out in person next time - especially since burritos are not available on any of the delivery apps for...
Read moreThe people there are very nice, the restaurant has tvs and is clean but not stylish or up to date very mom and pop. That's the reason I went in. But if you are going to look like mom and pop you better cook like it. I had the pork tacos and chips w guacamole. I have eaten tacos in Mexico and all over California (which are the best)and New York -these are not close in flavor but simular in looks. For the Tacos- The tortillas are fresh. Meat was bland and a little dry. Onion and cilantro weren't crisp. Chips/ Guacomole -On a to go order who puts the guacamole on the chips. Normally it's separate. More than half of it went in the trash because it was soggy. It just seemed to be slapped in. The guacamole took up so much space in the container the chips that weren't soggy was few. There was no love in the food- no grandma recipes or care but it was decent. I went on a Saturday early evening and it was a 15 minute wait. I really wanted to love this place. The good/bad news is Mexican restaurants in Jersey City are all in my experience simular to this. I have been to 7 restaurants in this same particular area and none have wowed me. It not the worst but I won't be back. There are about 20 or more Mexican restaurants in this area but none I have tried steps up to...
