Cocoa Bakery -one of the best bakeries in New Jersey - has locations in both downtown Jersey City and in Jersey City Heights. There is something for everyone from cookies, cakes, cupcakes, croissants, coffee cake, pies, to ice cream and coffee. Some of my go to items include: 1. Mini sea salt chocolate cookies - Love the rich chocolate salty sweet flavor combo. These might be my favorite cookies and they are only 75 cents each. 2. Any of the Pie slices or individual pie tartes. Cocoa Bakery is known for their cakes but I am most impressed by their pies and tartes - absolutely delicious Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, Marscapone Cheesecake and even Vegan Chocolate Peanut Butter Tartes. They have the taste and quality of high end restaurant desserts. 3. Cookie of the week - from ginger chew to peanut butter - keep an eye out for their weekly cookie specials. They are always amazing. 4. Mini-cookie bags. Check out their mini cookies, in a variety of flavors in both chewy and crunchy varieties. The crunchy cookies last a long time so it’s good to grab a bag so you can have treat for the next day or so. All of the flavors are delicious. 5. Cupcakes - I love picking up holiday themed cupcakes in a variety of flavors for family get togethers. The gluten free and vegan options are just as good as the “regular” flavors. Cocoa Bakery has too many other incredibly delicious desserts to mention. Be sure to check them out if you are...
Read more3 years ago I was looking for a good local cake spot for my boyfriend's birthday.
When I purchased a custom chocolate cake with: chocolate mousse, vanilla buttercream, and cookie pearls... I was not expecting that it would become an annual tradition!
My boyfriend loved that first cake, saying it is the best birthday cake he has ever had. Since then, I have been ordering the same cake from Cocoa Bakery every year for his birthday and it does not disappoint.
This year, I threw my boyfriend a birthday party. His guests independently said Cocoa Bakery's cake was the best birthday cake they have had as well. Thanks Cocoa Bakery for the consistency!
This year I also decided to ask Cocoa Bakery to decorate the two cakes I ordered. I didn't know what to expect after they said they could match my proposed designs...but what I received was beautiful and so fun! Yes, my boyfriend is an adult man haha, but I love going all out for him with a theme or two...and Cocoa Bakery helped accomplish my visions!!
*Note: if you are planning to ask for a decorated cake, please reach out to Cocoa Bakery and give them a 2 weeks heads up min.
ALSO when I went to pick up the cakes I found out they just started doing UberEATS...the snacks they have there look delicious so I will definitely be ordering from them for a...
Read moreCocoa Bakery has some great desserts. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for all of them. If you ever visit, you must try their pies. I've never had a pie that was tasty, not overly sweet, and full of flavor until I had one of their pies around Thanksgiving. Here's the problem–their cakes. A few weeks ago, I placed an order for a $150 cake, for a special event. I did not feel comfortable paying that price for a cake, but I went along with it anyways, because I knew (well, I thought I knew) that Cocoa Bakery makes some pretty good sweets. I picked up the cake at 10:00 AM, and we didn't cut the cake until 2:45 PM (Jessica, the owner, said to leave the cake out for about 3-4 hours before eating it). The cake was dry and the flavor was off (I ordered strawberry shortcake and could barely taste the flavor). Most of the people at the event did not like the cake. Truthfully, I am very disappointed and was enthralled that the cake was NOT what I anticipated. When I called Jessica a few days later to discuss this, she told me that the baker usually makes the cakes fresh. If you ever go here, you should definitely grab some pies–but I wouldn't buy/order a cake. New customers should have a rewarding experience when trying their items, but I did not. I hope they can change...
