The problem with this restaurant was the front greeter. My sister and I came to try this place out for the first time. We ordered and food came quick no problem. I've had better, food was about a 6.5 to 7 out of 10. Our problem came when we split the check and my sister wanted to cover the entire tip on her card. So I signed mine with no tip . She added the entire tip on her card. It was 15% of the total for both of us. The lady came back to our table with my receipt put it in front of me and asked why, loudly, I left no tip. I explained to her to look at the other receipt and what we chose to do. WELL that was not good enough! She was confrontational and said but look it's 2 separate checks and was the service not good enough. This lady's goal was to embarrass us in front of the entire restaurant! I know this because my sister asked her plainly "are u trying to say you want more money because if that's the case I'll give you more money" and the lady said no. But also did not just say ok no problem and walk away and stayed in front of us as we are trying to leave and repeating herself. In my opinion no one is entitled to a tip but a fair tip was left. She wanted us to go by the 18 or higher percentage suggested on the receipts and leave tip on each one. We thought 15% was fair. To purposely try to embarrasse people in to giving you more money is a disgrace! ESPECIALLY when the food is just ok. It's money hungry and disrespectful. Pay your servers a livable wage and stop harassing people for more money that you are not entitled too! Something like this has never happened to us before. In any other establishment. I wouldn't be surprised if it was rooted in racism as well just to make us seam like we were cheap trash . We offered more money for her to stop and she wouldn't take it and. Just wanted to make a scene and embarrasse us .. also I am 9 months pregnant. This was...
Read moreThe food around these parts of Jersey is Sketchy to start with....and while in the past I've had decent food at Mamak, I think they changed owners. The new people are talentless cooks and very rude.
Firstly, the few times I visited this restaurant there was a young man who always assisted and took my order. Well, he wasn't working today. Some lady who was the manager there today was working. Coincidently the service today was as terrible as the food. I had to return the Sesame Chicken because it was hard and tasteless. Save your calories on something else. You get about 7/8 pieces of little chicken bites for $10 served with a bunch of white rice and the most disgusting soup I've ever tasted. Since they do not allow substitutions I recommend saving a tree and Never ORder that nasty chicken soup. I also ordered shrimp and broccoli which was ok...but definitely was a run to the bathroom order!!! I also ordered steamed dumplings which were quite delicious but I've never seen such a tiny dumpling in my life. The chefs there today with the rude mean manager lady have ruined this restaurant. So I went back to exchange that horrible sesame chicken (Yes...that bad)...and got this curry chicken. Those pricks gave me a tub of white rice and a few pieces of chicken. I guess that was the punishment for bringing back the food. Even though I had to make two trips to the restaurant they got me by giving me 1/4 of the serving for the replacement dish (which they forced me to choose what they wanted). My bigger punishment AGAIN was another toilet run that crept into my schedule for another 20 min. session. I will not be visiting again...AND BY THE WAY THAT CURRY CHICKEN WENT IN...
Read moreCame here out of curiosity. Been craving Malaysian food and options are VERY slim. For the longest time Satay in Hoboken was the only game around short of traveling into the city. I’ve traveled to Malaysia myself and have tried everything from street food and hawker stalls to nicer sit down restaurants so I’d like to think I have a pretty good idea what Malaysian food should be like.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the taste and quality to be quite good. I ordered the following
Roti canai - the roti (crepe) was great! A touch too crispy but that is a minor gripe. Overall the quality of the roti is very very good. The curry sauce was also very good, just mildly spicy, nothing too overwhelming.
Beef rendang (lunch special) - let me get this out of the way and say rendang is pretty hard to get right in general (especially with beef). Taste wise it’s just the right level of spicy and savory. A touch salty but I’m a lot more sensitive to salt than most. My only critique is that I wish the beef were just a bit more tender (some pieces were but others weren’t). Overall, I’d def order it again as it still satisfied my craving and gets most of the way there. Portion was also just right for lunch especially with an app.
Note: lunch special came with a spicy chicken soup which was really good!
Thai iced tea - just right, not too sweet, and not watery. If I had to ask for more it would just be a bit more tea but my preference is always stronger tea flavor. Would order again.
I will definitely be back to try more of the menu and plan to bring my family and friends in time.
The staff are quick and courteous and the dining room is clean. Lots of...
