The food is very good tasting most of the time. They give good portions at an economical price. This is an old gressy breakfast spot that usually hits the spot. The dishes & silverware are not aligned but it's fine; they're clean enough... They serve classic American dishes. Do not expect fancy gourmet or healthy dishes. They offer mostly breakfast but also have a few items for lunch. Recently the usual old crew has not been there so the food is not consistently prepared. Yesterday my grits were perfect. Today they're thick & lumpy. Plus the eggs & sausage are overcooked. The old chef ensured the food was consistent. I'm not going back until the old guy that likes to yell is back. The old guy never came back. The food is consistently bad and the servers are nice but offer poor service.

I read about this place on Google and the reviews were good so I wanted to try it. I was looking for a local place that was reasonably priced and I could not have found a better example. I've been craving coffee and pancakes since I got to the US last week although I was nearly tempted to change my mind when I arrived at Nick's as the cooking smells of bacon were almost irresistible, but I stuck to my original plan. Proper strong coffee, not like the weak as dish water version most places in the US usually serve. And the pancakes were perfect! The ladies were lovely and made me feel really welcome, plus there was a steady stream of locals collecting to go food who clearly love the place too.

This is a typical hood restaurant. Very friendly service and excellent food at a super economical price. Do not expect nothing else. If you are looking for a fancy place, go to downtown JC. But if you are looking for good home made food and do not mind blending in the neighborhood I definitely recommend Nick's. The only negative point is that in summer it is very hot to eat inside and they keep the air conditioning off. But, if asked to turn it on, they do.

Ordered home fries with green peppers and onions..both was watery and soggy. Also egg whites with wheat bread..butter and jelly on side..received bread but no jelly or butter egg whites fried hard..(fried egg whites)??/hard???(egg whites are usually soft)..coffee pot needs cleaning. Could taste unusal bottom..somewhat stale burnt flavor. This place in business for years but owners let some people walk in from the outside and go behind counter and get their own coffee or whatever their needs hands can't b clean because they've walked in from the outside and in hurry..but still they should not be behind counter walkin's. Breakfast this...
