Always order shaggy roll, one of the best and consistent rolls to order. The salmon tayokai is really good, but need to ask them to put the rice in a bowl so its easier to eat. The Tayokai (octopus) is delicious eating it hot. Dragon dance was solid. Tokyo roll i would put a hard meh on it, for me it tasted like nothing. Edit 10/24/22 White house roll is impeccable Burning man roll is good! Spicy salmon generic won't be ordered since inferior to shaggy dog Chicken donburi, probably should ask to separate the chicken, egg, and mushroom from the rice since the rice absorb all the flavor. Though this time when I ordered the batter or skin of the chicken was falling apart which was no good.... though the chicken was nice This review was coming from a person in which Wasabi taste like soap. Reminder to ask if we can replace the red Sashimi in the Sashimi plate (the answer was no) 6/16/23 Las Vegas roll is good eel sauce but heavy due to being fried Queen roll is good but very saucey Dragon dance was eaten again, it's very acceptable Rainbow roll is also very good Perma should order list (updated 8.3.23) Shaggy dog Sashimi combo Rainbow roll White house 1/6/24 Ordered Combination fried rice (pretty good) Calamari Seared yellow tail Seared salmon Spicy tuna California Crunch Shaggy dog White house Rainbow roll White house Salmon sake don (spicy and raw, so it's ok but I wouldn't order again) All the pictures are for 1/6/24 Overall everything is thumbs up

Kawa Sushi is a must add to your list of local favorites. In fact, add it to your list even if you're not local. The store front is rather small and unassuming nestled in between a few other small local businesses on the corner of North Gessner and the Beltway. Entering the restaurant give you the feel of private and cozy rather than cramped. As the door opened the staff greeted us, telling us to sit where we liked and doing an extra wipe down of the table before we were sat. Our drink orders were immediate with the menus. The appetizer order was taken with the return of our drinks. Tonight's dinner started off with an appetizer of Gyoza that left us wanting more, and more is what we definitely got. Our soups of Miso and Onion were definitely worth the time and would make for an excellent meal on their own no matter the weather. For tonight's entrees we had the Baked Scallop roll (it's rather self explanatory), the Rock and Roll (a shrimp tempura roll), and the Hungry Roll (a fried roll with Crab and Shrimp Tempura). All three rolls were exceptional and were spaced slightly as they were made fresh for us. For desert, was a decedent macha ice cream with a robust flavor, a rich and creamy texture, and an amazing finish. Over all tonight's experience was well above average, with a price I would expect from something much less worthy of a review.

After changing owners 3 times, I seriously think we have found a winner! This place has changed directions drastically and the presentation as well as the taste of each dish is close to what you would find at an upscale sushi restaurant. I would consider this to be more of a hole in the wall place just because it’s more hidden and very small in the there. Hole in the wall places are the best anyway and I love the intimacy as well as great service involved with small restaurants. They have a wide range of dishes from hot & cold appetizers. We had the gyoza, beef tataki which is served in flavored ponzu sauce. We also had the peppered tuna which had my absolute favorite, fresh wasabi! They also serve foigras scallops, uni spoons, and salmon belly (another fav)! There's so many good items to chose from I wish I could try them all! The ramen was EXCELLENT! My husband & I were extremely impressed! Super flavorful, savory, and rich! He asked them to make it spicy and they did. One of the best ramen places we've had, and luckily down the street from us! He also wanted me to add that their ice tea is extremely good as well, lol. I hope they don't ever change management again! This place is super good and affordable! Will be making plenty of visits here now!

This is our go-to restaurant for Japanese food and we take all of our friends and family here! When our friends and family come from out of town, they request that we have at least one dinner here.

I will be super honest: We first came here on a super busy night and service was slow. We kind of expected this with how small the restaurant is but we were still disappointed in the service. BUT THEN THE FOOD. The food was SO good that we decided to come back and try it again. That never happens. To us, bad service = not coming back. That's how good the food was. We came back on a normal night and were extremely happy with the service (and food again). Ever since then, we have come back over and over and are always happy.

When COVID hit, the restaurant shut down temporarily. When they opened back up again for takeout only, we hit them up for takeout and if you happened to go during this transition and were disappointed at the wait time, PLEASE come back and try again. We waited an hour for our food the first time and when we spoke with one of the waitresses, she said they were understaffed because they weren't prepared for the crowd. We've gotten takeout since and they're way more efficient. They're finally open for dine-in again and we've already gone once.

The staff there are so friendly and remember us and our orders - even over the phone, they recognized our orders and asked if we wanted our normal appetizer haha. We are so so happy they survived through COVID and we will always come here for...
