Carnitas Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Texas

First time here and no instruction if to seat your self or wait to be seated. Got here at 10:40/45am and we weren’t greeted so we just sat ourselves down. It’s kinda hard what to do being theirs a counter to order from yet a waiter brought us menus assuming we were gona get our order taken. We browsed through the breakfast menu (since she handed the breakfast menu side up for us) and when we were ready to order at 11:05, we just walked to the counter only to be told that breakfast ended at 11. Had we known that, we would of placed our breakfast order at 10:59 if it really mattered that much. I did bring it up to the male at the counter letting know we got here before that time and we weren’t told what time breakfast ended and basically, there was nothing that could be done. Needless to say, my group just got 1 small quesadilla, 2 fajita tacos and one taco Al carbon plate (rice and beans tasted bland) Spent about $35/$38 bucks. The meat was well seasoned but the service was not all that. Had they accommodated breakfast, greeted us, gave instruction on how ordering works, let alone hold small talk/interact; I won’t be returning back. 4 out 6 times my order did not come out correctly. Why keep going back? The food is delicious.

Each time I've ordered the same thing, menudo. This time I called ahead to make sure they had it. I asked for hominy because the other 3 times that I asked for it, the hominy was not in there. I explained my other experiences to them. The lady on the phone assured me that it would be in there. "Our menudo comes with hominy", she said. Your order will be ready in 20 minutes. The call was made at 7:11 am. My husband arrived at Carnita's at 7:42 and they still had not started preparing it. They told him it would be a 15 minute wait after he already paid. 😒

He brings it home to me and low and behold, no hominy at all and very little meat!

He keeps saying that they are prejudice against Caucasians. He has said this before.i told him that was crazy talk and I didn't believe it until it happened again today. They are extra friendly to Hispanic people.

The other 2 times they got it right, I was the one that picked it up. I look Hispanic but I'm Native American. 🤔 coincidence... maybe.

We've seen this restaurant change names two or three times in the last years, finally Carnitas Mexican Grill seems to have worked. Instead of having to drive closer into town for Mexican breakfast (when I don't feel like cooking) we like coming here. It is a counter service restaurant so you'll pay for your meal before you receive it. I usually stick to the same dish, Super Breakfast, which has a little bit of everything that I want. Eggs, chilaquiles, beans, chorizo and potatoes. The food is good, but I feel like it's not hot enough, hot as in temperature. The chilaquile sauce is not spicy at all, which is great for someone who doesn't like spice. I on the other hand, prefer spice. We ordered a side of bacon and it truly was horrible. The texture was similar to carne seca or beef jerky. When we brought it up to the waitress, she agreed the bacon was overcooked and brought out fresh bacon, this time cooked to perfection. The flour tortillas are fresh and hot! If you order coffee, you'll have to pour it yourself, which is not an issue. We will continue to visit as it is...
