Chose this place out of others in the area as this place was close to my next destination and wondered how the food is.
Established next to a gas station, the building is on the left side and upon entering, the atmosphere is small and minimalistic. Not to say itās bad, but you go there to get your food and eat. 4/5
On a Tuesday during evening itās not empty but not crowded, Iād say around a few people. Customer service is expected (ordered my food, pay it for it, no issues)
I got #1 on the menu and Vanilla Shake for around $18, including tips (15%) although tipping culture and how itās shown on the machine is pretty much āemotion-guidedā if you feel bad about not tipping.
Without tips itās still a bit hefty on price. Price is 2/5
The Hippo Burger (#1 on menu) Texture: 3/5 I honestly expected the patty to have at least some juice in it but it does fall apart easily, showing that itās lean from what I can tell. Flavor: 4/5 The smokiness from the patty alongside the acidity of pickles and crunchy veggies gives it a nice āburgerā flavor. Although has similar flavor to a whataburger burger. Overall rating: 3/5 Lower side if you prefer a juicier burger, otherwise 4/5. Take note of the buns though the butter pairs well.
Shake (Vanilla) Texture: 3/5 Iād say from a thickness scale from 1-5 (low viscosity to highest) Iād rate it a 3. Not too watery like water but not thick to the point you canāt drink from it. Flavor: 4/5 I assume a shake will include mixing in ice cream and milk to make it, as this drink is slightly sweet, combined with the flavor of milk and vanilla ice cream. Comparable to chic fil a shakes honestly if I had to relate to another chain. Overall Rating: 4/5 I couldnāt find anything noteworthy, but a vanilla shake is a vanilla shake.
Overall place rating: 4/5, although I do not recommend myself to come back again because of prices and other chains have competitive prices with almost the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe establishment reminds me of an old skating rink with plain concrete floors. This was my first time eating here and I don't think I was expecting for the appearance of the restaurant to be so minimal. I honestly contemplated eating here. I should also note that the restroom was out of order, which left us to use the restroom next door at the gas station. When we ordered, the cashier was new and could not give me any recommendations on what I should choose and the co-worker she called to help her had a pretty stale personality, far from welcoming. I ordered a bacon cheese burger with queso, a side of fries, a kids grilled cheese, and kids cheese burger. The wait time was around 15 mins. They brought my burger out first, which was okay, but anytime you have hungry children, donāt bring an adult's food out first. A parent isn't going to eat in fromt of thier hungry children. As a result of my waiting for their food to arrive, my food wasn't as enjoyable. The overall taste of the food was Okay. The bun was very dense, the meat had plenty of gristle, and my backing was too crunchy and over cooked. My kids did enjoy their food though, but their expectations are much lower than mine. My Sister ordered a strawberry shake, hamburger with cheese fries, and bacon pieces. Her bacon was also burnt š and she mentioned her strawberry shake tasted like a low sugar smoothie. This will probably be our first and last visit, as this visit wasn't as memorable as we thought...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreHippo burger is a newer place that opened up on the corner of Gessner and Beltway, connected to a truck stop. Iāve been meaning to try this place for a while as itās maybe half a mile from my house and when looking for places to this popped up and I decided to try it.
First, the service was very friendly and the lady behind the counter had a bubbly personality.
I ordered the hippo special, Cajun fries, an 8 piece buffalo wings and a large soda (the soda was HUGE and thereās a big difference between the small and large so just pay the extra and itās worth it.) I waited maybe 6 minutes for everything which perfectly normal.
The wings were average, very breaded and had a higher fat content but flavor I believe is just Franks hot sauce and they were definitely edible. Iāve had much worse from other burger joints.
The Hippo special is there hippo burger with bacon and jalepenos (my normal go to for any burger topping). The burger was good but the meat was slightly dry and they DEFINITELY loaded on the jalepenos but overall the taste was definitely that of a quality burger. My only complaint is that it was a tad dry.
The Cajun fries were really good but itās your basic seasoned fries and thatās always a classic with any burger.
I spent a total of $19 on the entire meal, reasonable price considering what I got.
Iāll definitely be going back since itās better than any other burger joint around me (Burger King etc etc) just donāt dry...
