If you want some super well made Japanese food that you can't find anywhere else, this might be my top pick in the area.
The sushi and sashimi is extremely fresh and carefully made, but even the more exciting thing about this place is the food that you typically can't get in a Japanese restaurant. Daisuki has a lot of tasty Japanese dishes that you can't find except at other izakayas. The food here is a significantly more carefully made than some other izakayas - the fried squid is extremely crispy on the outside without being tough, the various fun fish-based dishes are well-seasoned without being drowned out by the flavor of mayo and sauce The most exciting thing is that their specials really ARE specials. Every time I have gone, the specials have had something new and interesting. The last time I got "spicy tuna on crispy rice," and it was...unique. And delicious! How often do you find something where you look at the flavor combo and think...interesting....
It's an interesting niche because it's not a place to have a super fancy night out (the decor is pretty sparse), and the price point is a little higher than you would usually do for a quick and easy takeout (although it's only slightly higher than prices for Japanese in the area). What it IS is a place where you pay a little more to eat MUCH...
Read moreThis has the feel of a small family establishment that you might find off an alley on the streets of Tokyo. The menu is just the right size for an establishment that calls itself an Izakaya. It has a selection of hot appetizers, sushi rolls, rice bowls (donburi), nigiri/sashimi, and a few desserts. It's everything you'd expect. And their attention to detail is great.
Usually when you order a roll that has cream cheese, the cream cheese is nearly frozen. When it's too cold, the cheese flavor overpowers the fish. Daisuki served my bagel roll with cream cheese that was not too cold - it was just right.
And that's really the theme here at Daisuki - everything is just right. It's exactly what it should be. The Japanese "kaizen" philosophy of continuous improvement is definitely on display, right down to the dessert tester that we were given. Daisuki wanted feedback on something before they put it on the menu. It shows great dedication to the craft. I'll be back! (sugu ni modotte...
Read moreThis food is great. The owners, the chef, the whole works, are 100% Japanese. Of course they have added to the truly Japanese cuisine very delicately prepared sushi rolls which are now very popular in the United States and beginning to penetrate homeland Japan, especially in the Tokyo and California markets. My wife is Japanese and we lived and worked in Japan for almost 20 years. We are now back in the states, ending up in Atlanta, and have been searching for good quality raw fish sashimi, and we have found our goal finally at Daisuke. (by the way Daisuke in Japanese means something you love, and izakaya means itâs a drinking place, with various smaller dishes that go well with beer and sake, canât wait till we can get back here to start some heavy drinking and tasty eating.) Of course like many restaurants, due to the pandemic, they are take out only, but will begin outside dining soon. Iâm sure this place will be a success story to be continued. Canât wait to go back again, soon...
