I booked Sankranti Banquet Hall for my younger brother's graduation party and worked with Sam throughout the process. I understand how challenging the hospitality industry can be, so I typically hesitate before leaving critical reviews, but in this case, my experience was frustrating enough that I feel the need to warn future patrons.
Negatives: Last-Minute Cleanup Chaos: When booking, Sam confirmed over the phone that we could clean up the hall two days after the event since the venue was closed the next day for a federal holiday. However, on the night of the event, as guests were just beginning to leave, Sam suddenly changed his stance and insisted that everything be cleared out that same night because he was allegedly hosting the mayor the next morning. This unexpected change in plans added unnecessary stress at the end of a long day. Bartender Mishap: The hall has a wooden bar cart, which we planned to use from the start. Sam agreed and even provided a bartender at a reasonable rate. However, due to poor communication on his end, the bartender went to the wrong hall and showed up an hour late, leaving our guests in an awkward situation during the first hour. Unprofessional Guest Count Dispute: Mid-event, Sam became visibly upset, claiming we had over 200 guests despite having ordered food for 180. He even threatened, “I will tell my boys to count plates!” In reality, we had fewer than 165 guests, as several invitees couldn’t make it. Many family members, including myself, were busy managing the event and barely ate. Given that Sam could have easily counted the chairs in the room, this unnecessary dispute felt ridiculous and unprofessional. Glassware Restrictions: Sam was difficult about glassware leading up to the event, insisting that only flimsy plastic cups were allowed. Not only are single-use plastic glasses wasteful and not eco-friendly, but they also don't provide the same experience as proper glassware, especially for a celebratory toast. We eventually negotiated to bring our own glasses, but he made this process unnecessarily difficult, despite it not being against the terms of our agreement. Lack of Floor Plan or Setup Guidance: Beyond the website photos, Sam provided no floor plan or additional information. I had to take my own measurements of the room’s dimensions just to plan decorations and seating. Parking Nightmare: Parking was a major issue for our guests, including family members who were carrying the delicate cake. Guests had to park several blocks away and walk over, which was incredibly inconvenient. At the very least, a few parking spots should have been reserved for family and event organizers to ease logistical burdens. Difficult to Work With: Sam is curt, not particularly friendly, and at times, difficult to work with. His communication style made parts of the planning process more frustrating than they needed to be. Positives: ✔️ Excellent Mutton: Nearly all my guests raved about the mutton dish. The food quality was one of the few highlights of the event. ✔️ Responsive Communication: Sam generally responded within 2–5 hours, which is better than many venue managers. ✔️ Food Tasting Perks: After we paid the deposit, Sam offered 1–2 complimentary dishes during our tasting session. ✔️ Clear Decoration Guidelines: During our initial visit, Sam proactively informed us that nothing could touch the walls, which helped us plan decor accordingly with enough time to adjust.
Final Thoughts: While the food was great, the overall experience was stressful due to poor communication, last-minute changes, and unnecessary disputes. The parking situation, lack of flexibility, and disorganized logistics made the event more difficult than it needed to be. If you're considering this venue, be prepared for rigidity, mismanagement, and potential frustration. If you do book here, get everything in writing (!!!), double-confirm logistics, and plan for potential...
Read moreSankranti is not a place I would recommend anyone host an event.
We held an evening event on a Saturday evening and had booked the largest hall at Sankranti several months in advance. Initially, we were in contact with Sam, who was extremely helpful—always responsive, transparent, and clear about what to expect. One of the main reasons we chose Sankranti was because catering was included, but we were allowed to bring in our own drinks. We were informed we’d need to bring our own cups for the bar, which was fine, and that plates and silverware would be provided for dinner. Unfortunately, the silverware turned out to be plastic, which did not match the level of formality we had planned for. Closer to the event, things began to unravel. About 15 days before, we unexpectedly found out—only after my husband called to ask a question—that Sam was no longer there and Prashant would be taking over. From that point on, communication became incredibly difficult. The last two weeks leading up to the event were unnecessarily stressful due to the lack of responsiveness from management. A couple of days before our event, we were informed that another party had been booked in the same hall earlier in the day. We were told this wouldn't affect us, as we’d have access to the hall by 3:15 PM so our decorator could set up before 5pm. However, the party before ours ran over, and the decorator wasn’t able to get in on time. This delay falls squarely on the venue’s management, who failed to coordinate properly. We had also hired a professional photographer to capture important moments before the event began. Because of the delay in accessing the hall, we lost valuable time and were forced to improvise, taking photos outside—in a poorly maintained parking lot. This was incredibly disappointing and definitely not what we envisioned. We had arranged for a dessert table with outside desserts and were told a table and linen would be provided, and we’d just be responsible for setup. However, the table and linen didn’t arrive until 4:45 PM—after multiple calls from my husband to Roy, who was supposedly sharing responsibilities with Prashant. Roy claimed he had forgotten his phone, which was extremely unprofessional and added to the already mounting stress. To make matters worse, when it came time to finalize payment, there was barely any acknowledgment or compensation for all the delays and mismanagement. Not even $85 could be deducted from the final bill. Roy said he couldn’t even get in touch with Prashant himself. Being 7 months pregnant at the time, dealing with all of this chaos and last-minute scrambling, all while trying to focus on our event. The lack of organization, poor communication, and sheer indifference from Sankranti’s management made this one of the most stressful experiences...
Read moreWe had dinner here last Friday and overall take was it is A-OK. It was fist time here after pandemic and I am glad it survived unlike many other restaurants. But it's not the same anymore. It has fallen from it's grace. It was introduced as an Ace Indian restaurant in the area and it was like that for a while. But my experience this time was bit short of that expectations and may be I am little critical but I felt it that way :) Food was decent, few new experiments like tandoor broccoli and paneer/cashew Biryani were well taken. We had egg curry and palak Paneer and they were on expected line. Food & drinks were bit pricy. With given inflation there is upwards move of all prices but since when Flat bread kulcha started costing $6 a piece ? And you need at least 2 to have decent meal. This is up for debate but the quality was good. Service was excellent. I expressed my concern about my Roti not being soft and bit burned on tandoor side, they took action immediately and replaced the order. To top it, in the meanwhile Sean brought a small bowl of rice to keep my meal going. At the end they asked us to review the place right then and there and it was unusual. Felt bit pressured to give your opinion while being there. They say positive review help the service mgmt get raise..:) The menus shared were on printed paper (crumpled) with few places misspelled of their own restaurant (it spelled Sakranti) This is a no-no and must be changed in my opinion. It doesn't cost much to print nice menus and coat/bind it. The décor is mostly intact from original and in decent shape. The floor in the booth we sat was smelly and sticky and needs a thorough cleaning. The lantern shaped booth lights are cute décor but they are hung way up high leaving the table in darkness to the extent that it was hard to read the menu. Please fix it. Bathrooms are clean and maintained well. The outside landscaping seems ignored and in dire need of attention. If you overlook small things I recommend this place for food...
