Our favorite restaurant in Appalachia is tucked into Johnson City Tennessee and it’s worth the drive every single time. #Appalachia #JohnsonCityTN #TennesseeEats #AppalachianFood #HiddenGem

UPDATE -Take out ORDER: It has been a bit since I have been back but the craving over took me. I wanted the Schnitzel sandwich because it was always larger then the bread thin and crunchy. Oh the beer cheese and pretzels had to have. Nope not this time beer cheese was the best thing there, soft pretzels was so hard tuff and stale it was hard to tear apart and no salt. Sandwich no longer the same I would have been happier at burger King and I am not impressed with them either. Maybe it's only To go orders that are this bad. I NO LONGER HAVE A CRAVING TO EVER GO BACK. Happy for anyone else that has a good visit. The service was excellent. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The bratwurst was good but I think it would have been better if lightly grilled. Loved the beer cheese sauce. The fried potatoes bacon and onions and goulash was very good. It is a must you like green onions due to it is used heavily. I do like onion so I didn't mind. Not many choices of sides potatoes, potatoes, potatoes, broccoli and sauerkraut. Looking forward to going back and trying the Schnitzel.

This was the first time we had ever eaten here we traveled a little over an hour to try this place. The first thing I noticed was the location. It was right on the corner which was very nice and the décor was very beautiful. We got the Pretzels and Brats with the beer cheese as an appetizer and they were phenomenal. The pretzels were soft but with a slight crunch just enough. For our Entrees we got the Sauerbraten and the Bratwursts sampler with the 3 types of Brats and two sides and for sides we both got the red cabbage and pan potatoes. The food was beyond amazing some of the best food I have had in months. The Sauerbraten was so tender and the brats were so juicy. The potatoes had the best taste and the cabbage was some of the best that I have ever had in my life. I wish I could remember the waiters name because he gave us top notch service. He was great!!!!!! We will definitely be coming back and we will also be recommending you all to everyone of our friends and family!!!

Updated review 4/27/25: First visit since they opened a second location(which I've yet to visit) but I have to ask.. did all the veteran staff leave for the new location? I got my usual boulette Andreas and it was a bit overcooked. The gravy didn't have the first piece of mushroom and was thick like breakfast gravy, it didn't hint at wine at all. The pan fried potatoes were bland and had no green onion mixed into it at all. One of the potatoes had a bad spot in it the size of a nickel. This is no longer my number 1 tri cities restaurant.

Original review, 5 star: What can I say? Freiberg's is a must eat if you're in the Area, or if you're outside the area you should just drive. This is my favorite restaurant in all of the tri-cities. I highly recommend the Boulette Andreas, with a double side of the pan fried potatoes, the boulette is covered in a wine type gravy and is to die for and the potatoes are fighting for space with big tasty chunks of bacon and onion. While you wait for your meal you can have bread and dill butter, which alone is reason enough to go. Every little thing Freiberg's does is magic! The staff is always friendly and they keep your glass filled. Give it a try and I'd bet...

Okay so I've never left a review but, I saw this restaurant online and thought it'd be nice to try, went in today with my fiancé around 2-2:30 and got seated pretty quickly but took about 5-10 minutes for us to receive our drinks and didn't receive our food for another 25 minutes, shortly after receiving I realized it tasted pretty bland and when my fiancé talked to our waitress about it said "it's just fried chicken" and walked off. A while later she brought over our check and when we paid in cash it took about 15 minutes for us to receive our change. About 10 minutes after leaving I realized I had left my bag so I called the restaurant to ask if they had it and I didn't even get to finish my sentence before the woman on the phone said "yeah I have it" and hung up while I was asking about coming back to grab it. Going back in to grab my bag, I could see my bag in the back but felt to weird to grab so I made eye contact with the woman who served us (who I think answered the phone) before she walked off. The atmosphere here was really nice but I'd really recommend getting some better staff for this place.

(The waitress had black hair with blonde stripes and...

UPDATE: Late December 2005, 7 brats, 2 sides, and a container of cheese sauce for $57. Only went cause I had a $30 gift card. The brats were great and I was really excited to eat them, but to still pay like $27 to feed my family after bringing a $30 gift card to the table is ridiculous imo. I just can't afford it (wish I could).

Original review: this was one of my favorite places to eat 15 years ago when I was a grad student at ETSU. Id eat those cheddar brats till hell wouldn't have it and would just wash down that cheese sauce. I do think it is a great restaurant and still love the cheddar brats. Unfortunately, I only get to enjoy them about once a year because they have raised prices like 10 times over the past few years. I'm so sick of it. It's like you can't even do anything anymore because prices are thru the roof everywhere, but no more so than at Freibergs. Tonight I got 3 brats and 2 sides for just over $25. At one time I could've gotten two more brats for that and my daughter and I could've pigged out together. People need to start standing up...
