Always good food, good beer and good time. Sunday night's are the best with the Lost Sounds of a Texas Honky Tonk. May 2018
Ditto my comments from last year. April 2019
Service had trouble keeping up with the size of the crowd. The bill was messed up among our group, but they fixed it. The pizza had an off flavor (maybe the cheese?). Lost Sounds of a Texas Honky Tonk was great as always. May 2019
Tried the Fried Chicken. It was good and came with a bowl of gravy, but it can't hold a candle to their Pecan Sweet Chicken.
It is peach season so they have lots of peach drinks. The Texas Peach Tea is delicious. The hoppiness of the Peach Kolsch overpowered any impact from peaches. The Rye Peach was just a sweet whiskey drink. - July 2021
It's been a while since I've updated my review because everything has always been consistently good and I didn't have much to add. With our latest visit there have been some noteworthy changes.
First, they now have printed menus! They had gone to scan codes taking you to a web-based menu that provided limited visibility and required lots of scrolling and navigation through links. Thanks for giving us printed menus that make it quicker and easier to make selections!
Second, they have added some new menu items. My friend and I decided to try the Fish and Chips. I have had Fish and Chips countless times in countless restaurants and I have to say that this was the worst. The fish had a huge, heavy, doughy breading that had little flavor and left little room for the fish. The slaw had a unique and good savory flavor, but was way too spicy hot to be able to eat. I hope they can fix these things. It would be nice to have Fish and Chips as a option here.
On another note, another friend had the Chicken Fried Chicken. I've had their chicken fried many times and always liked it. This fiend said that the breading was now spicy and distracting from the taste. I hope they haven't changed their tried and proven recipe on this. - November 2024
Tried another new menu item - the Texas Reuben. It's more of a corned beef sandwich. There was very little sauerkraut, the corned beef was in chunks with fat, and the pretzel bun stole all the flavor. I liked that they put the dressing on the side so you can add as much or little as you want.
The sweet potato fries were thick and had good sweet potato flavor, but they weren't crisp like fries.
The Pecan Coffee Stout was...
Read moreDO NOT GO IN LARGE GROUPS WITHOUT SPECIFYING YOUR TABS BEFORE ORDERING!!!! We had a large party, about 25 people with about 10 of those people only having drinks and not ordering food. The first group of people had ordered already, when the second group of people showed up and ordered and the waitress added everything on one ticket before the manager came and spoke with me about it being too much for the waitress to handle on being able to separate the tickets. Then the 3rd group showed up, the 10 people who didn't order food, and instead of starting another tab the waitress added it to the already large tab. I let the manager know I would see what we could do on separating or one person paying the entire bill, and when I asked them to separate into the 3 groups that arrived the manager said he couldn't do that as it would be too difficult. I even offered if they brought us the ticket, I could separate it all for them. They again said they could just split it into 3 checks evenly, but that would have been a mess to see who owed what to whom. When they brought the check out so I could review it, I saw the $77 tip on our $438 tab. Our waitress was rude, and unaccommodating, even when told more people would be joining, she still picked up all the menus before the 2nd group got there and ignored us when we said that she could leave them. She never once asked about this being on separate tickets or asked how we would like the check split before taking orders. I ended up having to put the entire tab on one card (which at the end was fine), but it is absolutely ridiculous that a restaurant could not separate a ticket and said it would be too hard to do so when that's part of being a restaurant is. As for not being accommodating that would have been part of the tip earned had they asked the question before just adding...
Read moreAll the high-star reviews had us expecting a first-rate experience... that was not to be. We visited the restaurant last weekend on a day trip to the Johnson City area, including a visit to Pecan Street Brewing. We arrived at straight up noon, and were promptly seated. After a quick look at the menu, we placed orders, and then proceeded to wait for our order... and wait, and wait, and wait. At about the 30 minute mark, our wait staff could be seen hopping from table to table, apologizing for the slow service... by the time she got to us, we had heard the whole story several times. Management had decided to let a bus drop in and jump in front of the ordering line because they had a schedule to keep (of course, nobody else had anything else to do with their day... apparently). The bus pulled up a little after we had placed our order, and their prioritization just bumped every single other table's food down the line. Worse than the wait, was the wait staff's on words... "I probably should have warned you there would be a long wait." Yeah, you should have... instead of roping us in under false expectations. But we waited some more... and waited... and waited. At 50 minutes, when we were literally sliding our chairs back to leave, our orders arrived. Fish and fries-- the fries were the coldest, limpest that fries can be without coming straight out of a to go box that's been in the fridge for 2 days. The fish was... OK... nothing to get excited about. The meatloaf was nothing short of horrific, as the brown gravy congealed on top of it like icing on a cookie. Go here if you like. I hope your experience is better, but for us, the place was garbage in all aspects, and a waste of...
