At first glance, this is a quaint, pleasant, and groovy coffeeshop/cafe that serves as one of the only places in Johnson City where one can grab a a breakfast sandwich and a coffee. The drink and food menu are both solid however the wait and preparation of food was rather questionable. It took twenty minutes for two eggs and cheese on a biscuit to be made, however the worst part of it was that it was stuck in a microwave prior to it being served to me. Now as someone who has worked in the food and service industry and has had breakfast sandwiches across the country and the world, I have never seen a sandwich, that is in theory supposed to be made with fresh cracked eggs and cheese, be stuck in a microwave after its “just been made.” There would be no reason to do so unless there was a serious displacement in coordinating between the kitchen staff and cashier/barista, or a mistaken philosophy that a microwave would make the sandwich “fresher.” As I observed them making beverages I could not help but notice there were no other orders being placed for food besides mine, which begs the question, how long does it take to make two eggs with cheese and bacon on a stove flat top? If one or two more people would have ordered biscuit sandwiches before or after me, it seems that the kitchen would be in a deadlock and there would be a 30 minute wait for an egg sandwich, which is quite frankly, unacceptable assuming there is not a line of fifteen people. There is no reason that an egg sandwich should ever be placed in a microwave after eggs have just been cooked. This is a cardinal food rule. I really hope they did not forget about the sandwich and decided to toss it in the microwave to make it seem hot. Perhaps there aren’t many spots for locals to compare and contrast it with, but this would not fly anywhere else where one pays $6.50 for an egg sandwich. Nobody has to rush or work like robots, but the kitchen staff has to step up the pace a little bit and reconsider how they prepare their food. Additionally, the biscuit was quite crumbly and would have been a lot better if….can you guess…had not been stuck in the microwave. There is rudimentary technology called a mini oven/toaster oven which is something that should always be in any breakfast shop and is superior to the microwave. Customers can take notice of this and it is not a good look! Best of luck and I hope these mistakes can be accounted for and improved as small businesses like yours are the driving force of America. Read moreVisiting Johnson City for a wedding and stopped by for breakfast with my husband and two daughters. This little cafe is absolutely precious with well thought out touches like a Scrabble board, play kitchen, and comfy seating to sit in while you wait.
Be aware that there is very little seating indoors, but there is a patio for outdoor seating. Unfortunately there was no signage telling us that the patio existed, so we waited for a table to open up inside.
The food was absolutely phenomenal. We ordered the Avocado Toast, Filthy Biscuits, Tacos, and a BS. To drink we had a smoothie, an Americano, and a Campfire Delight coffee. Everything was incredibly delicious.
My only complaint was that when our food was brought out, they said they didn’t have enough silverware clean, but that they had plastic ware we could use. When I walked over to grab plastic ware all they had were spoons, so I let the girl behind the counter know that they needed to restock the forks. She was very dismissive and said they didn’t have any and that I would need to eat with a plastic soup spoon. Overall, the food and atmosphere was so amazing and that small issue didn’t affect...
Read moreThis is a restaurant that I have been to a good amount of times. I’ve always enjoyed the food and the atmosphere is quite nice and quaint. I went in the other day to see a new menu item that I had not previously seen. A chocolate chip cookie rolled in cinnamon sugar, so a chocolate chip snickerdoodle cookie. Guess what this cookie was named? I honestly don’t even want to repeat it because I find it disgusting and odd. The restaurant is owned by a white family in a predominantly white town. Why would the cookie be named this? Whoever named the cookie obviously knew what it sounded like and made the name in some sick, odd, way of catering to a weird sense of humor. This is extremely disappointing to see as I had previously enjoyed this...
