Island Cuisine — Restaurant in Johnstown

I was craving Jamaican food after a long day at the hospital and the plan was to order takeout tonight. Well upon entering the restaurant there were at least 10 dishes set up on a long buffet style table. It was explained to me that they were having a celebration and that the community was welcome to sit down and eat with them. The owners treated me like family. They offered and encouraged me to try anything on the table. Of course I wanted to try all the dishes and ended up packing jerk chicken, potato salad, fried fish, chicken pasta, another type of pasta, and white rice. All of the dishes I had tried were all so flavorful, authentic and absolutely delicious!!! I am truly grateful for the owners’ kindness but moreover this speaks volumes of the owners that they would take the time and effort to give back to the community. Besides having scrumptious Jamaican cuisine; the owners’ big hearts will have be another reason why I plan to frequent this...

I've had good experiences eating here in the past. But my experience this time had too many issues to not post a review. I waited extremely patiently for my food, as a know it takes time to get it right. However, there were 2 MAJOR issues with the food that I'd hope can be fixed/avoided in the future. Considering I waited for well over an hour after I arrived to get my food, serving undercooked wings is extremely disappointing. The 2nd issue was a bit more puzzling. Idk what went wrong with the stew chicken, but it tasted and smelled as tho something spoiled or perhaps entrails were cooked with it. I've had the stew chicken before and it didn't taste like that. Real bummer bc I was pretty excited for this food, having really enjoyed it b4. Ribs were great, greens, plantains, Mac all great. But sucks I have to rebook some wings and throw out some stew...

This was some of the best food I’ve had in quite some time! I got the curry chicken and it was unbelievably tender, juicy, and flavorful. I tried to keep it healthy with sides of cabbage and collard greens and the flavor was something my tastebuds won’t be forgetting anytime soon. If you want your kids to eat their veggies, this place gives you the best chance. Not to mention, once you start getting through your chicken, you’ll find an amazing bed of rice that soaked up all the happy memories of the rest of your meal. Just to top it off, these were some of the nicest people I’ve encountered in a while. They were extremely considerate of any allergies or special requests. My girlfriend is vegan and we are so excited to have a place like this in our town. Go give this place some love because they are certainly giving...
