Union Station Deli & Event Center in Joplin is a delightful spot that seamlessly blends historical charm with modern culinary flair. Situated at 705 Illinois, the location formerly known as Beckett's Cafe, this establishment has undergone a refreshing transformation. The new railroad theme is not only cool but also thoughtfully integrates into the local heritage, featuring wooden booths, historic light fixtures, and fascinating memorabilia from Joplin's past, including items from the famed Ebony Super Club.

The ambiance is further enhanced by the attentive and friendly service. We were seated immediately upon arrival, welcomed by a very kind waitress who ensured our dining experience was comfortable and enjoyable.

The menu at Union Station Deli is nothing short of unique, offering a delightful twist on classic dishes. My friend Michelle opted for the 'Me Like Bees' - a sandwich that harmoniously combines turkey, cheddar, sliced apple, honey, and whole grain mustard on a croissant. The addition of the apple was a masterstroke, adding a fresh, crisp element to the sandwich. She paired this with sweet potato waffle fries, which were a hit.

I chose the 'Klein Philly', a hearty sandwich packed with roasted beef, grilled onions, peppers, mushrooms, smoked provolone, and garlic mayo, all served on crusty French bread. The flavors were rich and satisfying, perfectly complemented by the handmade onion rings – crispy and flavorful.

The total cost for our meal was around $30, plus a tip – a reasonable price for the quality and quantity of food served. Union Station Deli & Event Center is a must-visit for anyone seeking a unique dining experience in Joplin. It's a place where history and modern cuisine meet, creating an...

This was my first visit to Union Station Deli...and it will NOT be my last!

What a pleasant experience we had. The atmosphere is casual/low key, the facilities are super clean and well lit, there's pleasant chatter constantly occurring and the wait staff are superbly attentive.

Our waiter was my step-grandson, Conner and he was (of course!) beyond kind and attentive to us. But I HAVE to balance this statement with the fact that he took care of his other patrons with the same TLC as he gave us. This appears to be the quality of care that the restaurant expects from their wait-staff...that they tend to their customers with the SAME care as they would give their own family members.

"The food?" you ask...it was SPECTACULAR!! It was high quality and well prepared. I chose to have "the Stapleton" platter with bacon...and not only was it WAY more than I could eat in one setting but, the quality was above your regular restaurant-normal foods. BTW...The bacon is to die for, the pancakes are super fluffy, the biscuits are HUGE and fluffy (although I didn't have one as I chose the pancakes)...and their coffee is VERY good (& I'm a coffee-snob!)

5 stars ALL the way for this...

If you don’t know Jennifer Johnson and Michael Johnson, you’re missing out!

These two are some of the kindest and hardest-working people I’ve ever met. They own Union Station Deli & Event Center, right here in the heart of Joplin.

I love local. I love our community. And I love that we have people like Jennifer and Mike pouring their hearts and souls into providing a service that Joplin otherwise wouldn’t have.

If you haven’t tried it, I encourage you to. I’ve used them for catering many times, eat there every week, and really enjoy the food. They serve up delectable breakfast and lunch creations crafted with love and care. Their delicious food pairs perfectly with the warm and inviting atmosphere they’ve created.

They also have an Event Center, a versatile space perfect for a wide range of occasions. Whether you're planning a birthday celebration, a wedding reception, or a business meeting, it’s the perfect setting for special events with a capacity to accommodate up to 60 guests.

Support local and experience the amazing service Jennifer and Mike provide at Union Station Deli and Event Center. You won't...

As a New Yorker, finding food that truly reminds me of home is no easy task—but Union Station Deli delivers every time. This place is the closest I’ve found to that classic New York-style diner experience, and I couldn’t be more grateful for it. Jennifer and her family work their behinds off to ensure everything is always perfect, no matter when we visit. The moment you walk in, you feel like you’re at home, and that level of warmth and hospitality is something special. Now, let’s talk food—because they never miss. Their pancakes? Absolute perfection. A little crunch on the outside, fluffy and delicious on the inside. Their salads? Always fresh and flavorful, perfect for ordering for the office. And their sandwiches and baked goods? Consistently amazing. Every single time. Union Station Deli has quickly become one of my favorite spots, and I recommend it to everyone. Whether you’re stopping in for breakfast, lunch, or just grabbing something to-go, you cannot go wrong here.

Menu selection was a bit too large. Food took long to come out, when the restaurant wasn’t busy, a bit after lunch rush. Our waitress Kim was nice. Food tasted ok, nothing worth bragging about. Should highly consider keeping the condiment caddy’s in the kitchen and bringing them out when guests dine. Keeping the hot sauces next to a window is not a good idea. Most of the hot sauces/condiments were bad from the sun. Breaking point was a piece of plastic in my food. It appeared to be a piece from a dressing container. It was a nice surprise while eating my sandwich. Restaurant was clean. Staff was attentive. Spent approx $10-$15 per person. Just needs a few tweaks and it should be good. Probably won’t eat there again, if I do, I’ll update my review with my next experience.
