This is a great place for a party of 2, I'm sure. We reserve a room each year for a group, and the amount of people will vary by year. Sometimes we only have 10, sometimes, like this year, there's 25. We make accurate reservations well in advance. A few years ago, we began being offered a limited menu, which is fine, but each year the menu gets more limited and much more plain. This years choices: a plain ribeye, filet medallions, chicken or salmon.
I ordered filets and of the 3 sides offered, I chose the truffle Mac and cheese. I didn't realize that the side options were being served "family style", and the server didn't tell me when I ordered it. I was at a table with 6 men and 3 women. The server brought a little plate of Mac and cheese, asparagus, and potatoes and set it at the far end of the table. Everyone assumed there would be another plate of sides for my end so they took what they wanted. It was an appropriate amount for 4 people after all. But there was not another side dish coming. For my side, I had one piece of asparagus and I scraped the bowl of the Mac and cheese to get one teaspoon full of the sauce, that's it. The medallion that I started with was so tough and full of connective tissue that I was unable to chew it so I chose to have the rest boxed because I was embarrassed. To be fair, what I brought home WAS very tender besides the one, but I didn't know that at the time. Everything smelled good and the little bites I had tasted good. The salad would have been very good if it had had enough dressing and it wasn't just plain lettuce, the rolls were delicious and I would have been happy just to eat those but I got half of one that i split with someone. We were never offered more. I don't know what our total was this year, but in past years, with fewer people, it ran about 3 to 5 grand for 10 or so people. I'm assuming last night was more like 10 to 12 grand for 26 people. It seems like, for that amount of money, everyone in the group should at least get a side dish, maybe even two sides like in past years, and that maybe a second basket of rolls wouldn't be asking too much. Or, if that's no longer an option, maybe the server could be present and observe the fact that some people have nothing on their plates and be available if they'd like to order something. It's much much different than it used to be. I, personally, don't feel it's worth it anymore. Who would? I didn't mind spending the money when the food was amazing and you actually got to enjoy it instead of watching the people on the other end of the table enjoying what you ordered and you barely get to taste it. I would have gladly paid whatever they charged to have a side of Mac and cheese, especially since I was unable to eat the steak. But the server was absent. I'm going to suggest we continue this tradition someplace new next year. I got the feeling, this year, that we were too expected and dependable. Like, we go there every year, we never complain, and we'll be back again next year, no matter what, so it doesn't really matter if we're satisfied, there's no need to try and impress us. I waited tables for 10 years at an upscale restaurant. I understand the entire process. There's no way I would have expected a table of 9 to split that little plate of sides. But if I had, I'd have set it in the middle so it would be obvious that that's all they were getting and I would have remained present, assuming that people would be wanting to order sides because it clearly wasn't enough. Our server came back around with boxes eventually. Their goal was to figure out who's paying, schmooze him, and get us gone, and we can get that kind of treatment anywhere. The food being superior makes no difference when you don't get any. The service makes no difference when you're ignored. In past years, the servers have schmoozed all over the wrong person and when the bill was brought and handed off to my husband, the absolute jaw dropping horror, shock, and disbelief was so hilarious that it made it worth being ignored. Read moreI wish I was giving five stars because that is usually what I rate this restaurant. I love coming here and I usually have a very positive experience. I have dined here many times and I have never been given anything less than phenomenal service. I have been talking this restaurant up to my boyfriend who had never been, so I decided to bring him here for his birthday. I made a reservation for 12/18/20 @ 7 pm and was given a table promptly and served quickly. We shared our celebration with our server and we ordered a bottle of wine and salads to start, then steaks. Halfway through our meal we were literally kicked out of our table. I got up 15 minutes after we got our food to use the restroom. When I sat back down from the restroom our server was taking all of our plates. Our bottle of wine was not finished, I had only eaten 1/3 of my steak and hardly touched my side and my server took my food without even asking if I was done eating and went to box it because I said I was wanting to save it. Which I only blurted out because I thought she was going to just toss my food. Then she rushed to bag our wine and we were both stunned because we are not one bit in a hurry. We were trying to celebrate his birthday after a very busy year and seclusion with quarantine. This was very upsetting for us and I cried at our table. Our server did not offer us a dessert menu or even acknowledge Jacks Birthday. We weren’t out to get something free but it was a CELEBRATION. I thanked our server and tried to take into consideration there was a few very large parties there as well. But we already had our food and wine. Our table was EXTREME LOW MAINTENANCE. I do not understand this type of customer service and rudeness. I have only spoke positive things about this restaurant and absolutely praised the food and service. I WANT to spend my money there versus another restaurant in Joplin. But tonight was cheap, rude, and we felt extremely uncomfortable for the way we were treated. This was supposed to be a special, intimate birthday celebration, not a 45 minute rush...
Read moreOk! we were in Joplin last night and wanted to try this place out. They opened at five and we were the second set of customers to be seated. 5 tables total. After 15 minutes we still had no water but the other 4 tables had already been taken care of. We had 4 in our party so we went up to the bar area where all 5-6 staff members were talking and asked if we could at least get some water while we wait. I could tell it was blown off like we were being unreasonable. A few minutes after asking and still no water or acknowledgement of our request, we decided we felt like this was a scenario that we didn’t want to endure especially after the way it had went. I’m not here to bash the staff! Sometimes there’s problems or issues preventing speedy service but just let us know. We understand but without communication it makes it hard to be sympathetic or able to understand why the ball was dropped multiple times. As we left someone in our party said thanks for waiting on us and got the reply thanks for waiting? For the prices I would expect way better service and definitely no witty comebacks to our experience. We left and ate at another steakhouse which was half the price, great service and we didn’t feel like a nuisance! Hopefully management is giving the employees good training on how to provide great service and can learn from this experience, I know we did! This is our experience and have heard good things about this place and bottom line is I’m sad I didn’t get to enjoy the good...
