This place is a pretty nice place, I am assuming it is a well hidden place to the locals. We were out and about far from home and we tend to look for places that are out of the way, something different. The place is an older building and its seating and size reflects this. The place is a bit warmer than most cold places so if you get cold easy you would like this place in the summer. One of my guest used the restroom and said that it was "CLEAN" and slightly dated. We choose the table near the big window as we like a much brighter place. The fair Dining room with lower lighting during the day. Not sure how I would judge night eating. I did see a trend of locals who know what they wanted and ordered. I would say a lot of it is carry out or call and order. It does take a while for them to make the food yet it was quite good. While we are not food critics so we cannot judge the food other than what we like. Overall the food was cooked, it had spice, the chicken fell of the bones and the plantains were quite good. Every time we have ever had plantains they have been slices. They slice in half and quarter them which I found to be far better. They are sweet like they are suppose to and non of those green ones. The rice was a mix of neutral flavor with limited spice. Prices are quite high yet overall the amount chicken exceeded and amount that I would have expected less. 2 thighs and a leg to be exact. The shrimp I think were med size and about a dozen or so which comes out to be about 4 oz of shrimp. Might have been more yet I am going to think the lower amount. I consumed all of my plate while my guests did not so I salvaged a chicken and both their rice for a small meal tomorrow. The town is quite small compared to larger cities yet the over vibe that I got from reviews is the Mexican place yet when you have had so much Mexican over the years a change of paid in a small Midwest town is a huge change up. would I eat here again. Sure I would if we were ever in the area. I would indeed mention it to anyone I know that might be in that are in the future. The only cons of this place is the lack of a menu for someone to look at. While its nice for locals to know whats good a menu and options would greatly improve things. Put the AC a bit cooler. While the long term savings is nice from a local hole in the wall place. A bit cooler would be nice. Other that its a great...
Read moreAlright, let me start off by saying I'm young and white and haven't had much food from other cultures, but personally, I LOVE the food here!
Previously I got the curry chicken (as seen in the picture) and this time I got the jerk chicken (forgot to take a picture before eating it, whoops). Both times I've been given enough food easily food 3 meals, especially since I get a 2 or 3 beef patties as well. I wind up splitting the meals up and putting a beef patty with each actually and it works out great!
Now I like the chicken, though the curry is a little bland and the jerk just tasted a bit hot (but a bit more flavor than the curry one), and the rice with beans is good too. Honestly the star of the show in my opinion is the cabbage though. I don't know what they do to it, but it's amazing and this time I asked for an extra helping of it because it's so good! The beef patties are amazing too, though I've only ever had them two other times in my life. These are better than the other two though!
Next time I go in, I'll try some of the other food, I want to keep getting experience with the flavors, but being a big nervous I started with the two chicken dishes.
Another thing to note though, both times I went in, the wait took quite a while. It's just an older couple running the place themselves I believe and it seems like only one of them are there at a time. Took me 20 minutes for my food. But both people were very sweet and friendly and the customers were friendly as well. I feel good going in there and come out feeling happy, which is better than I can say for most places.
So my advice going in; expect to wait for your food, but you'll get big portions for the price, and the best things are the cabbage and...
Read moreAs a Jamaican it pains me to write a negative review against a fellow Jamaican.... but this is an abomination against my country's cuisine. No way should this be served as a representation of Jamaican food. No sah! The curry is lightskin and runny with NO FLAVOR!! Taste like I'm drinking old soup water. It's like they boil plain chicken and sprinkled some curry in it for decoration. It's disgusting!! And how can a Jamaican restaurant mess up rice&peas,???? That's our specialty! The cabbage was literally the only thing I ate and threw the rest in the garbage. So I paid $12.07 for a half of cup of cabbage. If you're in the junction City area, go on the "foodie" Facebook page and look elsewhere for authentic Jamaican food, because this isn't it. I suggest either hire a cook, change the name of the restaurant or shut this place down. It's...
